All-Decade Team features four Colts players
The Sporting News is really starting to re-establish themselves as a very strong, insightful alternative to the mindless droning we get from other major media outlets. Their only blemish is they continue to employ this schmuck. But, despite having Mr. Florio stinking up their content, the site and magazine are very informative sources for NFL content.
SN released their All-Decade team yesterday, and on the team they listed four Indianapolis Colts players: Peyton Manning, Jeff Saturday, Marvin Harrison, and Adam Vinatieri.
If you look at their list, it is very impressive. The one name I'd personally scratch off is Randy Moss. I'd dump him in favor of Hines Ward or Torry Holt. Moss has been too inconsistent and (to put it mildly) lazy to dominate at his position for ten years. Meanwhile, guys like Ward and Holt are consistent year in and out, regardless of the QB or the system their teams run.
But, that's really nit-picking. The list is pretty spot on. SN also listed Peyton as the NFL Athlete of the Decade. Bravo to the editors at SN. It's nice to see a media company actually report and list content that seems to be backed up by real knowledge and insight, and not some silly corporate agenda (See ESPNBoston.com).

LOL
When I saw the EXPNBoston.com commercial, my first response was: “I thought that’s what I have been reading already.”

I LOVE that guy!
How can you not love a team that does this?

man this is great
I just feel bad for ROTB. He kinda ruined that interview and we hi-jacked that thread. Not necessarily reflecting well on us either, because well you see how it looks from an objective standpoint.

ehh
one ROTB poster thought he was probably full of it. The Mod seems to have performed the 3 click honesty check I recommended on Jay and gotten the results, and the one poster who seems to be pro-Jay is the one that was already getting into it with me and BBS

3 click honesty check?
Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.
Man, I need a life...
Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I blazed through my test in 20 minutes and sprinted back to my room just as the MNF theme song ended. Good thing too, with that 1st play. So, my streak of seeing every minute of every game since 2003 Tampa still stands. So, my Chem TA lives (for now).

I probably shouldn't have posted the link
or fed the troll in the thread.
I’m done, and it’s probably best to just leave him to throw a fit over there now that the mods are aware of his history.

I'm glad you posted it.
I’m new enough around here, that sometimes I don’t get all the inside jokes. BTW- I like your line, fed the troll in the thread, but what it is a mod?

Ogden?
Really? I guess me watching him cry himself to sleep whenever he had to face Freeney colors my view of him.

he was very very good
which is why Freeney owning him is such a big deal

Agreed
He was a great player. Jones too.
And Freeney has eaten both of them for breakfast routinely.

I just...
always remember him being hurt. Walter I don’t have any issue with. As I said, my opinion is colored by my memories of his down side. Plus, why not Orlando Pace instead? In my 23-4 years of watching and/or attending Big Ten games, he is still the most impressive player I have ever seen live.

Moss
Moss is one of the best players of the decade and I don’t care about his Oakland days. I would keep him on the list.
The Sheriff' is gonna make you pay for that.

Hmm..
Sapp should definitely be on the list, even with the last years in Oakland. Could make an argument for Simeon Rice. Also shows how underappreciated forced fumbles are, Freeney could easily be in the conversation. 72.5 sacks, 34 forced fumbles and 11 passes defended isn’t anything to shrug about. Even after missing a good portion of a season. And to be honest, I’d take Charles Woodson over Ronde Barber. But it’s a decent list aside from the Sapp snub.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

but to fit Sapp
they would have had to take off the elite NT. They can’t take off Seymour because they wouldn’t have nearly enough Pats ball washing then.

For an all decade team, Moss is no more flawed than Harrison
Sure, Moss dogged it for a couple years at the end of Minny and through Oakland, but he has been a beast for the other 7 years. Harrison’s body of work for the decade is also only 7 years, 07 and 08 were injury plagued and underwhelming and he isn’t even on a roster in 2009.

Consistency is
more important than just flashy numbers. Harrison, Ward, and Holt all have won a SB on top of that.
Owens and Moss, the two most heralded WR’s in the game for the last 10 years, are 0-2 in the SB. In fact, Owens is the single reason why the Eagles almost won their game against the Patriots in the SB. So I’d still take Owens over Moss anyday…..
Plus, the one factor here is that Moss is only good on jump balls down field…..otherwise he’s a mediocre WR. Guys like Ward, Owens, Harrison, and Holt all go across the middle, all willing to put it all out there all the time…
