For the first time in my life, I watched Manning play on Monday and felt a twinge of envy. The Brady-Manning rivalry is on hold right now. Indefinitely."
ESPNBoston.com's Bill Simmons, who finally seems to be seeing the light regarding Peyton Manning. It only took Bill ten years to figure out how much of a douche he was when he'd write about Peyton being a "choker."
Oh, and for the record, the rivalry is most certainly NOT on hold. Bill's just crying because the rivalry is no longer on his terms.

I like this one:
I’m not sure if the 2009 Colts are any good. It’s up for debate. Still, they have Manning, so for moments like the one on Monday night — Miami playing it safe in a tie game with four minutes to play, going with a lame inside draw on third-and-6 and settling for a field goal — anyone who followed football even a little this decade muttered to themselves, “That’s a huge mistake, Manning will make them pay.” And he did. The guy many people (including me) once questioned in crunch time has turned into the league’s premier assassin. He gives them their swagger. Single-handedly.
Although I will state that Bill is a little slow on the up-take.

Give Bill credit
this analysis is much better than most msm’s analysis of the Pats.
Hate to plug, but 18to88 has a great write-up about it.

You’re all getting leveled… Bill’s pick column and his woe is me Patriots column from today are both a big reverse jinx ball of poo.

OK, I'm getting tired of this.

you're getting tired of this?
What kind of comment is that?
Seriously. What kind of comment is that? You come off as an entitled, pompous something or other, seriously.
No where in my post did I say I believe in jinxes. But you know what, who cares if I do? More importantly, who are you to get indignant over it? Are you some poly-sci college kid that is overvaluing your sense of self-worth?
I’M GETTING TIRED OF THIS, SOMEONE POSTED SOMETHING ABOUT A JINX ON A WEBSITE. THIS GOES AGAINST MY PERSONAL FEELINGS, IM GONNA GET RILED UP.
No, I don’t believe in jinxes. But if you read or listen to Bill Simmons, he clearly believes in reverse jinxes. If you read any patriots boards, they clearly believe in reverse jinx/karma (if only tongue-in-cheek ish). That being said, who cares? If it harms you that much, unplug the intergoogle.

No room for honesty here
unless it involves the Colts and winning the Super Bowl this year or Peyton being nominated King of the NFL

WOW
Terrible. You need to take a breath and should have before you posted that response because it is awful. Your entire original comment was based around the implication you believe in jinxs because you said it. You can’t go back on that. No need to fly into roid rage.

you and Cass suffer from
the inability to read. I never said I believed in jinxes.
I said, in short form, ‘Everyone that’s praising Bill Simmon’s for what he wrote is being leveled (thats a poker term, meaning Bill Simmons is doing something on a level ahead of you, pulling a fast one, wamboozling you, tricking you, out witting you, etc…) because both of his columns today (the picks column where he praises Manning and the NFL column where he cries over the patriots) are both ‘reverse jinxes’. If you don’t know what a Bill Simmons reverse jinx is, thats not my fault. Neither is the fact that neither of you were able to tell that I never said, ‘I believe in jinxes’.
Further, my point still stands: Who is Cass to say someone believing in Jinxes, etc… is wrong? No one? Glad we covered that. I don’t believe in jinxes. I don’t believe in a lot of things others do – that doesn’t make them wrong, and it sure doesn’t give me the right to go around posting ‘im tired of this, U R STOOPID LAWL’ posts.
That post was every bit as pompous as the ‘i had to double check with 12 sources about the Kelvin Hayden on the sideline comment, because I just don’t trust anyone enough to tell me they saw someone standing on the sideline. Be careful wandering out into the internet…

just to continue...
I can’t stand Bill Simmons, but to take that ‘how dare you say that attitude’ when you can’t even read or take the time to understand what I was saying is pretty dick/immature, whether Cass or anyone saying Im on ‘roid rage’ believes it or not.

For someone who's is making long posts bashing me
for not reading, you don’t read very well yourself. First, re-read my original comment. Here it is:
You don’t actually believe that jinxes are real, do you?
That was in the form of a question. I don’t know you, and I don’t act like I do. I worded the question wrong, and for that I apologize if I somehow offended you. However, that’s as far as I will go. I did not come onto this site to be blasted and called pompus and arrogant with all-out attacks on me. No matter how you felt about my comment, that’s going too far. Also, I have no idea why you are getting so worked up about this. It doesn’t make sense to me. Whatever.
My point still stands: You took a badly worded comment of mine, massively overreacted to it, got extremely offended by it when I meant no offense, exaggerated the nature of my comment in your posts, and then went on a series of ad hominem attacks. I don’t care what you think of me, those things are uncalled for.
And by the way, if you are seriously going to be offended that I asked Phil B to confirm Hayden being on the sideline after his injury, there is no point in even talking to you, because that shows that you will be massively offended by anything that may seem even the slightest bit offensive. Whether or not you want to believe my explanation for asking Phil B (which was completely true, by the way) is your problem. I don’t have to justify it to myself because I know the reason, which was already stated. Think of it this way: How would me asking Phil B be a slight on you? Do you actually think that I only asked Phil B because the post came from you?
This is the last I have to say about this topic and any future posts you may have that bash me in nature. You can post as many bashing remarks with as many names and adjectives you want in response to this post, but you’ll get no response from me. Life is too short to spend in pointless ad hominem arguments. Want to discuss something about the Colts though, and I’ll be happy to answer.
Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

that wasnt your entire question...
This was your title:
“OK, I’m getting tired of this. "
As if you’re someone of import to be offended by the word jinx.
That, combined with your, ‘i need 2 sources to verify what someone saw on their TV’ thing just makes you come off as a jerk.
There are plenty of things that make me come off as a jerk, if you’d like to list the ones you’ve noticed, go ahead. If you want me to list some of them, Id be more than happy to.

Bill Simmons
Is a complete tool and has absolutely ZERO sports knowledge. He is one of the reasons I rarely go to ESPN.com unless I am checking my fantasy team (not my choice to do it through ESPN, but live scoring is nice). He is witty and I occasionally used to enjoy his non-football material, but he is living proof that ESPN is an obviously biased network. If you’re going to hire a huge team homer, you should do it for other teams to. Or you could….you know…..require your writers and analysts to be objective…..just throwing it out there. At least Simmons admits he’s a homer, though. I can respect him a little for that. Any time the rest of their “experts” want to follow suit, we’re all listening (cough Jaworski, Kornheiser).
I still smile every time I think of that article he wrote in the ‘06 season how Manning shouldn’t be in the same sentence as Brady and how the Colts were ever favored was mind boggling. Then we embarrassed Tom “Terrific” in the AFC title game as he looked awful and choked (and he has ever since). I swear I think Bill laid in bed and cried for the rest of the season. His hero was all too human and the man he despised was, well….just better. End of story.
Still, the fact that he actually believes that trading Seymour was a good move is hilarious. You not only give up one of your only solid defenders, but THE backbone of what was left from a great defense (hell, even I admired it). Good luck praying that 2011 1st round is not a bust and the Raiders don’t all of a sudden get good. I think its safe to say if we traded Freeney, there would be anarchy (digitally of course).

OOOOOOOO, No
TMQ (Gregg Easterbrook) easily has the longest columns.
Anyway, I still find Simmons funny. I just feel that he has little football knowledge. He seems to have some modicum of knowledge of basketball.

Wow...you're right.
I was curious whose columns were longer, so I copied and pasted both of their most recent columns in Word. TMQ is actually twice as long as a typical Simmons column.
Bill Simmons (Patriots column with weekly picks): just over 10 pages, 5,481 words
TMQ: just over 23 pages, 10,567 words
Time to read both of them: ~ 15 years

Trading Seymour IS a good move
It’s up there with the Texans taking Super Mario instead of Mr Kardashian in the draft.
Sometimes you make a move that hurts in the short term, for long term benefit. That’s what the Pats did. Whatever they’re going to be this year, having or not having a 30 year old DE isn’t going to significantly change that, but whatever they’re going to be in the future will depend greatly on them getting good young talent in to rejuvenate their aging squad.
Of course, given that the Pats have royally screwed the pooch in their last 3 drafts makes it more risky, but that’s part of the gamble.

I 'used' to hate him..
.. but he won me over. He has one of better blogs/podcasts. He doesn’t deny his bias, he’s actually quite humorous. The thing is if you read his stuff you WILL know that he definitely believes in the reverse jinx. Even for Fantasy players. I remember him making a comment on a podcast before the season that he doesn’t think he will be picking Anthony Gonzales. Basically like the he’ll be bad if he drafts him then as soon as he dumps him he’ll be amazing lol something like that.
