Brackett and Hayden Out for Sunday Night's Game.

In greatly depressing news, Gary Brackett and Kelvin Hayden didn't travel with the Colts to Arizona for the game. This obviously means that they aren't going to play Sunday. Here's the source.

This is huge news. Brackett and Hayden are essential members of our pass defense and we are going against one of the best passing teams in the league. Our odds of beating Arizona just took a astronomical hit. We pretty much have 2 avenues for winning this game now:

1. Freeney and Mathis both play out of their minds, sack Warner mercilessly, force fumbles and interceptions in the process or cause him to use only short throws because of the pressure.

2. Peyton scores pretty much every time he touches the ball.

That's about it. This game is not looking good guys, and I consider myself a realistic optimist. I just don't see it. Brackett and Hayden are that important. Hopefully, their injuries are like Powers' and they are back next week. Until then, enjoy you more than recommended dose of Tim Jennings and Freddy Keiaho, otherwise known as probably the 2 most hated players currently on the Colts' roster.

Tip to skywalker for telling me and depressing me with the news.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: I blazed through my test in 20 minutes and sprinted back to my room just as the MNF theme song ended. Good thing too, with that 1st play. We will win this game. Want to know why? Two words.

Peyton Manning.

We got this.

As long as we have Peyton we will always have a chance to win.

And for a little more optimism thrown in, I think Our D will want to atone for the beating they took last Monday. No matter who starts, I think they’ll get to Warner, I really do.

What's the status

On Powers and Jackson for tomorrow’s game? Am I correct to be under the impression that we have them both or can Jackson or Powers not play Hayden’s side for some reason?

by Nathan S. on Sep 26, 2009 8:49 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe Jackson moves back to the outside

Jennings is always on the outside when Hayden/Jackson goes down. Maybe if Jennings sucks enough then Powers gets moved into the starting outside CB. we will see

by colts9318rock on Sep 26, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I was thinking

If we have Powers and Jackson, we wouldn’t be too bad off having them on the outside over Jennings. But Jennings will probably still get the start, and even in the best case scenario, will still get a fair share of reps, but I’m a much bigger fan of “limiting the damage” as opposed to lining Jennings up against any WR the Cardinals have.

I say

We move Powers outside and use Lacey over Jennings. I think I would feel more comfortable if Lacey, Powers, and Jackson were playover over Jennings. I shudder to think what would happen if Keiaho and Jennings start.

Me neither.

Most of the Lacey sentiment is much more hatred for Jennings than trust in Lacey. People should be careful what they wish for. They might just get it and not like what I see.

I dont know why

but I for some reason just feel good about this game. Maybe its the high from the Miami game on Monday, but I know that as long as 18 is throwin to 87 and 31 is running the ball with athourity like he does then we should be ok. Plus I like the match up with Freeney and Mathis. I think Warner will have problems with them all game!

GO COLTS!!

Well at least...

they’re not a TE-heavy passing offense. That’d really magnify Gary’s absence. But even still, that’s a huge blow for this game. Him moreso than Hayden. Jennings will be fine. They’re going to complete a lot of passes no matter who plays. As long as none of them are deep, I don’t care if Warner has another 90+ percent game. What worries me is that now they could have a feast on the intermediate routes over the middle.

Interesting point on the TE's

Antonio Gates really carved us up when we played San Diego without Brackett last year. Luckily the Cardinals’ TE’s are not that good.

I don’t see Jennings being able to cover tall recievers. And I don’t see Keiaho filling Bracketts shoes. But………………AS LONG AS WE HAVE PEYTON WE CAN WIN ANY FREAKING GAME ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY AGAINST ANYBODY!

For the love of god

Move Jennings inside. He cannot be a starting outside CB, that’s just a fact. When he plays over the middle, he’s a lot better.

by slash196 on Sep 27, 2009 5:05 AM EDT reply actions

Of course

we can win and probably will. It just seems that in the short term at least, the days of double digits wins are over. We’re probably stuck with the cardiac Colts until Caldwell can get a grip on the situation with the defense. It almost seems to be an overwhelming task for the management/coaching staff though, because year after year the run D is porous as hell, and it’s getting old. Brackett played last week and it’s hard to imagine the D stinking it up any worse than they did. But, I do like Gary. We’ll just have to wait and see. Let’s hope that the defense is tired of getting embarrassed.
