Adam Vinatieri washed up.
Ok serious this guy Adam had his hey-days in the past but wtf this guy is missing chip shots. Adam is going to cost this team a loss if he keeps this up. He may not have a cannon foot or leg but anything under 40yrds should be money. He kicks its up .... its no good off the post, wide right, short. With all due respect Adam is no good.
Tell me what you think.

Honestly
I appreciate Vinny’s contributions in the past, but felt it was a mistake to let Andrus go. I hope I’m proven way wrong.
How can you not love a team that does this?

I predict Andrus is picked up by the Seahawks after Mare missed two crucial kicks against the Bears.
I wish we had him too. Vinny is great and all, but he misses way too many of the gimme kicks. I still have faith in him to make a big kick when it matters. I just hope that he doesn’t miss a big one and we get screwed.

To copy you’re theme. It would have been nice to keep Andrus, but we needed that darn roster spot….

When is his contract up?
We won’t re-sign him, unless he makes some sort of miraculous, dramatic turnaround.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s cut during the offseason.

It might be worth it.
Especially considering that we can probably find a more-reliable kicker who’ll play for less than 1.7 M a year.

I'm torn
I think the Vinny is done talk is premature, but I’ve never been a fan of paying a kicker over 2 million a year when FG accuracy seems mostly random among the top 25-30 kickers.

that i agree with though
1 more year after this one doesn’t seem too bad to me

AV's just fine
If I recall correctly, most (or maybe all) of his game-winning playoff FG’s came after missing an easier FG earlier in the game.
He’s never been the more consistently accurate guy, but when it comes time to win games, he pulls through as much as anyone.

"as much as anyone"
I think you Vini is still a starting-caliber kicker (as opposed… to a backup?)… but I don’t think he can still be considered a top 5, or maybe even top 10 kicker in the league.

Exactly. There’s no question, Vinatieri pulls off some amazingly clutch kicks. But I’d almost rather have someone who can consistently put up points with those easy mid-game kicks, so we don’t have to rely on the awesome 5 seconds left, 51-yard, game-saving FG.

Last year
Vini’s accuracy was 80%, which is good for 24th in the league among qualifying Kickers…
(here’s the part where you wince)
he was tied with Sebastian Janikowski in accuracy.
by hahasound on Sep 27, 2009 11:45 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
in 2007
Vini made 23/29 kicks, which is 79.3%, and 25th in the league.
This is a guy who is 36 years old and coming off hip surgery that kept him off the field until week 1.
Look, I was ecstatic when we signed this guy… but he’s just not getting it done anymore. He’s demonstrated this over the past 2.5 years.

Yeah, but Seabass has the edge in
quaalude consumption followed by vodka chasers and brawls with cops.
Vinny is way behind in those important stats.
I’ll give him another month to round into shape. It’s a concern, but still not as high on my list as Freeney’s quad or the run game. Or CB health. Or Gonzo. Come the playoffs, I might change my tune.

Both true.
My memory lines up with psvirsky’s about Vinny making the giant, HOF-sealing, highlight reel game winner…. after missing one or two earlier in the game, that would have made the final kick gravy, and not necessary.
It’s hit-and miss—Colts fans know that as well as anyone with the Vandy experience. World’s best… except when it counted.
Vinny is about average, except when it counts. I think essentially getting us to the Super Bowl in 2006 buys him some slack in returning from surgery. And McAfee’s KOs are sweet. I’d pay to see him handle triple duty (or is holding for his own FGs quadruple duty?)

Adam is the clutch king... But.
It is getting a little scary seeing him miss here, hit the upright there… I know the guy is coming off an injury – but it looks like his strength has returned – though accuracy continues to be an issue.
Washed up? Not sure … but it is a point of concern. I too doubt he’ll be retained past the off season.

2006 Ravens playoff game
Nuff said.
In a way we got him more for his mind than his leg. And I’m cool with giving him a little slack. Pat should probably be kicking the over 45 yarders though. At least at this point.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

I don't think he's washed up.
Too Harsh. Give him more time to recover from his surgery. He deserves better than a title to a post claiming he’s washed up. I know you’re entitled to your opinion. But that title statement was just silly. Until (if ever) he loses us a big game, then let’s start the arguements. BTW- He showed a lot of loyalty to the Colts by not going to the Pats anniversary bash the week before last. He was invited by the pats to go, but declined.

Sometimes..........
I think people are a little quick to jump off the bandwagon. No, I don’t think it’s time to dump Adam. As for some other issues, how come nobody is screaming for Keiaho’s head today? Nor Addai either? Jennings played at the very least, adequately. C’mon were supposed to be fans…………show a little faith.

If you want
I can rip Keiaho for his stupid penalties?
by eltharion_doa on Sep 28, 2009 10:42 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think
it’s one thing if you have an elite-class kicker who has one or two down years, but the guy is going on 37 years old and recently underwent HIP SURGERY. At some point, players simply decline. Is Vini at that point? It’s not definite (he COULD go on to make every one of his field goals from week four on), but eventually you have to accept that there’s quite a bit of evidence that says that he’s not the same elite kicker we paid buku bucks for, a few years ago.

If you need to....
We got a win, all penalties are stupid, and we always have some. Granted, we had 7, and need to do better. Are you a fan, a cup half empty guy, or what.

Well
You wanted to know why people weren’t screaming for Keiaho’s head, I just wanted to make you feel more comfortable and at home. You seem to be very angry and unhappy which is strange after a dominating win.

Not unhappy at all.........
I wasn’t looking for an arguement. I just think there are some guys on this team that get a large scale evacuation every time they make a boo boo.

Inconsistency now "normal"
Vinatieri has displayed inconsistency for a few years now and I agree that it’s going to catch up with the Colts in a playoff game.
He will make a great long kick now and then but field goals from 35-40 yards are the bread and butter of scoring and Vinatieri cannot be counted on to get it done anymore.
I don’t think he’s totally washed up as he proved against Miami, but a replacement needs to be found.
Watching Vinatieri kick has become just as anxious for a fan as watching the Colts try to convert a 3rd and 1 by running the ball or wondering who can fill in for Brackett.
These are all Colts weaknesses that have been going on for several years now.
You close your eyes and hope for the best.
It doesn’t have to be this way, but the Colts won’t address these types of issues.
Andrus provides a future that Vinateiri can’t and if he gets away for good, the Colts will have to start the search all over again.
by centauri on Sep 28, 2009 12:26 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
We need a younger kicker
Vinatieri was good, but he’s getting too injury prone. We need a good consistent kicker. The money we spend on him should be used to bring in a new young kicker and put a little of the extra in towards a good punt returner. We still have yet to get a good punt returner.
