Freeney having MRI on quad; felt something "pop"
From Fan House's Nancy Gay: "Colts president Bill Polian had a concerned look on his face as he waited for Freeney to finish a television interview. Polian accompanied his standout pass rusher out of the locker room and directed him toward a waiting golf cart. Freeney loaded his bags onto the cart and he was driven to the Colts' team bus."

Could he really be walking on it if it was torn?
He had absolutely no visible signs of injury coming off the field. My guess is that’s it’s just a strain, similar to Marion Barber’s injury.

Exactly
Hell, he seemed to be kinda a smiling when he was walking back to the locker room.

That's what I saw.
I have no idea what’s going on anymore.

He was smiling. He looked like the cat that ate the cream,

It's not good, but with our schedule
3-4 weeks off to rest it might not actually hurt us. Seattle is iffy at best and Tenn is a running team. Then a bye and then the Rams. He looked not terrible leaving the field and if it’s a week to week thing, then they might as well put him on ice for a month. We need him against the Jets, Pats, and Ravens later in the season.
Of course i agree with Cass above… please no!
Also, how many times was he held tonight? The O/U must be 8 and my gut says it’s more like 12.

alot
And I repeatedly saw Mathis getting the right tackles hands in his face and on his face mask, yet it was never called. and yet Garcon got called for it when he stiff armed cromartie. stupid refs. At least it made no difference to the end, though arizona got big 15 yard penalties that kept drives alive and resulted in scores.

Please god
dont let this be anything serious, not even remotely serious. Loosing freeney is going to send this team to its doom. Its times like these where i still wish we had Howard.

yes you can walk on a torn quad
I tore the tendon that holds my right quad to my knee two years ago and could walk after without a problem. Still cant move or cut right ever since. On my college basketball team we had two players that had quads constantly pop they wouldnt tear all the way but it would effect them running, and jumping they had to rest a bunch. SO yeah you can tear it and still walk hell wasnt it White that played the whole season with a torn quad.

Bad news
For a speed pass rusher to have sort of quad injury is not good. Fingers crossed.

Rats.
Freeney and Mathis looked amazing, it would certainly be hard to see either down for any length of time. Just seeing Freeney going to the locker room made me wince.
by gmarius on Sep 28, 2009 3:59 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
no words of horrow upon seeing this can describe this team, any amount of time, without freeney. he is our peyton on defense
and if the refs didnt start calling some holding calls and facemasks on the guys freeney and mathis were rushing I was about to lose it.
by kinnickcolt on Sep 28, 2009 5:46 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
but you forget
there is no such thing as holding against freeney and the colts. That simply can’t be called, or the colts would blow people out… So it had better not be called or the night games wouldn’t be that interesting…..

In fairness
They called it more than I’ve ever seen it before which was like…twice. Funny how they say they only call it when it’s obvious he’d get a sack (which it was and he still almost did), but I thought the point was that if you hold a guy by his facemask it kind of prevents him from getting a sack. Right now it seems more of a “Way to go! He held you by your face the entire time and you STILL almost did it! Here’s a flag!”.
One of the best games I’ve seen by Freeney, and that’s saying quite a bit. Hopefully it’s nothing major. I’ve had a couple tears, strains etc.. He didn’t fall on the field (unless I missed it) and he wasn’t walking too bad. I guess the silver lining is it’s a quad and not part of one of the more complicated groups.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

well said
I doubt he’s the only DE/OLB with his own section of the rulebook screwing him, but it is quite demoralizing.
I still want to take a 50 lb dumbell to Macus McNeill’s fingers after last year’s playoffs. And then to the refs’ faces. Let’s see a few facemask grabs then, fat boy.

Could be really really bad
Could be next to nothing. As long as he’s not IRed though, it’ll be OK.
I hope for his sake that he’s back soon. He’s been off to a KILLER start, 4 sacks in 3 games playing consistent lights-out ball.
by slash196 on Sep 28, 2009 7:32 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yep
He was the best player on the field last night, even with the uncalled holds. I think the league should probably end up taking their urge to make sweet sweet love to QBs (and therefore let the O-line do whatever they want) and probably start making sure the elite D-linemen aren’t getting hurt. Especially since they’re probably some of the most exciting players in the game. Freeney got hurt on that hold and I’m surprised he hasn’t been hurt worse in the past. Justin Tuck gets kicked in the knee and partially tears a labrum. DEs are getting more beat up than QBs by letting these O-linemen get away with essentially anything.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

Your last line is interesting
I had not even considered that. DEs are the ones getting banged up and they play a HUGE role on our team!

Damn. Damn damn damn damn damn...
This sucks. Time to think long term; if he’s hurt, it’s time to rest him. We’ll need him in later in the season and during the playoffs more than we’ll need him now.
Next 4 weeks are Titans, bye week, Rams, 49ers. It won’t be until the 8th of November before we get a divisional game (Texans). Freeney could get a bunch of rest and heal up before we start to need him. As the playoff game against San Diego demonstrated, we need Freeney way more than we need Sanders. No offense to Bobzilla, but he doesn’t generate an edge pass rush that disrupts plays at the source. Freeney does.

LOL.
If only that was true. I’m still hopeful. I’ve popped me knee and leg plenty of times before without getting injured. Pop doesn’t always = injury. I crossing my fingers. Hopefully, Polian doesn’t be a jerk and not tell us the results of the MRI.

Or the pop was wrist ligaments of the OT
as 93 spun him in circles, but his hands were stuck in 93’s shoulder pads.
ouch.

Here is a webpage that provides some answers
for those who are jittery about this…like myself. I’m not sure how legit this site is, but i’ve had a quad strain before and it seems to be about right on the symptoms.
http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/cybertherapist/front/frontthigh/quadstrain.htm
It seems the most likely result is a grade 1 or 2. I’d prepare to accept around two weeks sans Freeney. I really hope its not worse than that. Now I’m going to freak out all day waiting for the MRI results. It’s never good when you hear a pop, but it doesn’t mean it’s a season ender or anything near as severe as some may be predicting. The Barber comparisons are pretty accurate.

Hearing things “pop” is never a good thing with joint injuries. Hopefully it’s just a bit of a tweak, and he won’t miss too much time (if any).

Actually, I have a hip tendon that pops all the time
No pain when I run distance, but when I walk, or get up down from sitting. Off and on for the past 15 years, since I was 30. One doc gave me stretching exercises and they actually worked.
So things can pop and be relatively harmless—but these guys know their bodies like we know our keyboards—they spend 6-8 hours a day cataloging their strength, flexibility, what’s right/wrong, what they can and can’t do, etc. I doubt he’d have said anything it it was of no concern to him.
ugh.

Snap, Crackle, POP
I’m totally digging my awesome title for this post.
Anyway, now that’s out of the way…I’ve played sports my entire life and you can tell the difference between regular snapping (like in my foot and ankle when there’s a popping feeling all the time from when I jacked up the ligaments on my ankle in basketball and had to wear an ankle brace with steel plates), the normal popping of my shoulder (dislocation, seperation, baseball etc..) and the POP I felt in my labrum a few months ago. It’s more of a “Holy crap, I’m pretty sure I just felt something tear in half but I dunno, just kind of hurts right now.” type POP. It’s like popping open a bottle of champagne without the celebration.
Jim Sorgi runs a 4.6 40. That's all I've got to say about that.

Freeney
He looked GREAT last night. I am still not sold on ‘looping him up the middle BUT, that’s me. Looks like Wheeler will get the call @ DE on passing downs. He didn’t look bad at that spot last night. And Hagler continues to impress me, he played pretty good as well.
