>Phillip Wheeler shows up
I missed the game last night, was away from home for my GRE test (1530 for those of you wondering), but in the highlights I saw something I'm not sure I believe.
Was that Phillip Wheeler playing a down lineman on Jackson's interception? He brought great pressure off the edge and forced an early throw. For a standup guy, he looked pretty comfortable with his hand on the ground and beat two guys around the edge. Maybe this is why they let Howard go?

I noticed Wheeler aswell
It was a really good play however I don’t think his pass rushing ability is at all better than Howard’s, I still scratch my head about that cut. Whether Caldwell wanted to get bigger on the D-line or not, a speed rusher like Howard that could learn under Freeney and Mathis for a few years would lead to a great pass-rushing DE.

Can't disagree
and it looks like we may have to find another speed guy if Freeney is out too long.

Maybe Howard just didnt have a high football IQ
He has alot of talent, but theres a reason they felt he was expendable. Because as we can see, we are now short on passing rushing DEs. They probably felt he couldnt fill the void well if he was put in a starting situation
