Freeney out at least a month
Sources at WTHR are saying that Dwight Freeney will be out at least a month. This is really not bad news and means that Freeney's season will be shorter. We don't have any critical games coming up (except for the Tennessee game), and it will just same him from further injury. Hopefully, the defense will not suffer while he is out. My feeling is they won't, as they have been putting a tremendous amount of pressure on the QB with their blitz packages.

In other words
its a 4 week injury. Good thing we got the bye week soon and an “easy” (any given sunday, dont take anything for granted) schedule.

Agreed
But I might say that thank God for 18 is more to the point. I think about the last time he was out for an extended amount of time—our inability to pressure the QB is what doomed us in 2007. But some more performances like we’ve seem out of 18 and it might not matter all that much against about 25 other teams.
But for four weeks (3 wks + bye) without a murderer’s row schedule, I’ll expect a 6-0 or 5-1 record, which is pretty good considering we’re missing WR2, DE1, for all that time and a few others for less time SS, MLB, etc.
I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

Freeney being out is not a big deal
The only games of true significance on the Colts schedule where we really need Freeney is the Patriots & Ravens games. Both of which we need him for. However, this is a really good time for the Colts defense to gel, get some players more playing time (basically our rookies and free agents) and let them get into the rotation. Gore is out for the 49ers for 2 weeks, which means our run defense wont have to face him. Even if he did come back, he’ll be gimpy.
If you haven’t noticed, the Colts have really been spelling Freeney since he came back from his foot injury. This actually might be part of why he got hurt in the first place, as he hasn’t been playing that many downs. It could also just be a case of from last weeks game biting us during this weeks game.
Ultimately, this looks good for the Colts because younger players are coming of age (Lacey, Powers) and the rest of the team seems to be stepping up to the challenge. Take out the aberration of the Colts/Dolphins game and the Colts have given up less than 150 yards rushing in 2 games…
More importantly, thru 3 games, the Colts have given up fewer points than the Titans, Ravens, Steelers, and Chargers. In fact, the Colts have only given up a total of 4 TD’s on defense. I’ll take those stats anytime..
