The Colts are the "Atlanta Braves of the Nfl"

So says everyones favorite idiot columnist Bob Kravitz. This whole article is bashing the Colts and talking about how they will be one and done in the playoffs. This is probably the dumbest article I have read as of recently. This article is basically saying the Colts dont have what it takes to make it, but it gives no good reasons why. I now believe like all of you that Bob Kravitz just writes articles to annoy us and stir up emotions. Heres the link to this stupid article if any of you wanna waste time and read it. Sad thing is just TWO DAYS before he wrote this crap he wrote a decent article pretty much prasing the Colts! It's amazing how consistantly inconsistant this guy is.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

You bother to read Kravitz?

I think a lot of us who have read him over the years have reached the point where we’d rather claw our eyes out than pay much attention to what he has to say. He is a blow hard who really doesn’t understand football very well

An expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing...

Agreed.

I’m not a follower of him. I stop in a read from time to time, but I have come to the same conclusions as everybody else around here. I honestly think the guy needs to go write for a paper in Detroit. That a way he could write crap about his home football team and no one would care, cause the lions really do suck.

Wow this guy is the worst writer i have ever seen or read we all know that the colt’s have lost some big game’s we dont have too be reminded bye an idiot who know’s nothing about football at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read it earlier today

and thought about posting it. But the concensus around here is that he writes about 85% garbage, mixed in with the occasional decent article.

what kind of tool says “hey, dont get your hopes up about the home team. they are only going to be kickass, and have a real chance at a championship…like every other year…..BUT DONT GET YOUR HOPES UP”

what a douche.

way to be proud of our football team.

That pretty much tells you how we feel about him.

I wish Kravitz would just stick to writing analysis about the games.

I’ve lived in Indy all my life, and I promise you, no one around here cares about what Bob thinks will happen come playoff time. The article was pointless and mean spirited. I for one won’t let some inane writer take my hopes away from me.

on all points. Most people i know here in town dont care either, minus a few. Its a real bummer because there are a few guys around work who bring up what he writes and some buy into it. Then i have to coax them out of believing that crap! ugh…..

What really stinks about Kravitz is that

he is actually a really good writer. He’s humorous at the right spots and knows how to work his quotes into the column really well, among other things. I just have a really big problem with what he writes, not how he writes it. When he doesn’t write about how the Colts suck, or how Dungy, Tom Moore, and Howard Mudd need to be fired, or how the Colts are chokers, his articles are actually pretty good. (My favorite of all time is the one written on the Monday directly after the AFC Championship game. Here’s a link.)

If only he’d remember the things he said in that absolutely brilliant column:

We will never look at the Indianapolis Colts quite the same way again. And certainly, clearly, we will never look at Manning as the best never to do this or do that, because he’s done it, did it after a brutish first half, did it after his interception sent the Colts behind by a 21-3 score, did it facing unimaginable pressure.
How remarkable, really, that this Super Bowl will not only feature the first-ever black head coach, but two black head coaches, Dungy and Lovie Smith, two close friends, a teacher and his pupil, two nice men who have shown the world a head coach doesn’t have to be a raving lunatic to reach a Super Bowl.

He’s forgotten both of those things since then, and It’s sad. He’s just like PacMan Jones, all of that talent completely wasted.

thats what I mean when I say hes consistantly inconsistant

did you read the second linked article I posted when he’s prasing the Colts after the Arizona game? He says

Didn’t they get the memo that they were supposed to be wasted from the long Monday night in Miami, the short week back home and the long flight to Phoenix? Wasn’t the defense, in particular, supposed to be dragging after playing 45-plus minutes against the Dolphins, plus a scheduling quirk that bordered on the cruel and unusual?

This is why the Indianapolis Colts are the Indianapolis Colts, why they’ve now won 12 straight regular-season games, why, despite their minor flaws, they remain a true-blue Super Bowl contender.

He states HIMSELF that they “remain a true-blue Super Bowl contender.” And this was just 2 days before this crap. I mean how do you go from follower to hater in just 2 days? I guess he was just looking for something to fill a spot for his column today.

I hadnt read it originally. Hell at the time i didnt even know Stampedeblue existed, i was stuck with the Indystar as my resource for Colts news.

It is sort of a waste of talent……..and just like Indy Lori said…..it was mean spirited, and pointless.

by MARVININDY on Sep 30, 2009 2:58 PM EDT up reply actions

It's sort of true, you know...

I’m estatic when they win during the regular season, of course, but it’s the post season that counts. It’s been that level for awhile now. And i know it’s based on injuries, luck, blah blah blah. (Excuse me while I’m still trying to remove images of friggin’ Volek out of my brain.) It’s hard to get back to the playoffs every year but once we get there they usually crap out except for that magical season in ’06 (or unless we play the Broncos).

Of course, I still love the Colts, been following them since the late 80’s. I enjoy these 12 win seasons way more than the 2 win seasons, of course.

I’m enjoying the ride.

by Gwen on Sep 30, 2009 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

That blah blah blah part

is the reason for those losses. It’s easy to just call them excuses and discard them. That’s what Kravitz and CHFF does, however, not every loss is one the Colts “should have won,” and not every loss is because of Peyton Manning or because they just choked. We were killed by injuries the last 2 playoff games while Peyton has played amazing.

CHFF and Kravitz call them excuses, I call them reasons.

With the talent level that they have and the amount of money on the offensive side of the ball

They should have at least gone to more than, what? 2 AFC championship games. I’m not calling those ‘reasons’ as excuses either, but it is what it is.

If they get past the 1st round without getting a bye, I’m actually happy.

Nick Harper getting tackled……
Volek becoming a hero for 5 minutes……..
Sproles cutting through the D like jello……..

did i miss any?

even though there were all those, that one Super Bowl outshines them all. =)

for some reason when i think of all of them………..for me, that one was the biggest kick in the pants……….

playing terrible that whole game, coming back……..Brackett knocking that ball out….Harper picking it up, getting within field goal range……….i really thought “this is our year, destiny! finally going to make it!”

and boom………..what a terrible, terrible kick……….for some reason it reminded me of a Saints game where they made this crazy last play with no time left, lateral passes here and there, got the touchdown. then the kicker missed the extra point attempt and they lost…..all of that heart put into staying alive and in the game for nothing.

there hasnt been another game that really really really bummed me out. i was pretty pissed. not even 10 Miller lights could cheer me up. =)

As I recall, the Buffalo Bills went to 4 straight SB’s and lost all 4….. the Vikings have been to 4 SB’s and lost all 4….

out of curiousity

I understand that Bob KRavitz is a moron and a looser [sic] and we should trash his lawn, but could someone that disagrees with this article please tell me why? I think the star has a couple of guys that wear their bleu et blance proudly, a beat writer that tries to do his best to communicate as much information as possible to the fans, but is often stonewalled by the organization, and then you have a columnist who is, atleast in my opinion, pretty even keeled. He’s not a homer. He doesn’t schill for anyone. He writes glowing articles about the Colts from time to time. He also gives a splash of cold water from time to time.

I’m not saying he’s a great writer or anything, but I don’t see a problem with the comparison. This team has had great regular season success. It has, according to various people, the best QB in the league, the best pass rushing DE in the league, a great safety, a great WR, a great OL (your mileage may vary on this one), one of th ebest TEs in the league, one of the best overall secondaries in the league… It’s only equated to one championship.

Now, I will say this: 7-8 and one championship is undersachieving given their regular season success, but in pointing out that championships are all that matter, Bob undermines his point that getting to the AFCCG would be better than going out in the first round. You don’t get a ring for 3rd/4th place.

by SpazMo on Sep 30, 2009 5:07 PM EDT reply actions

For the simple reason that 7-8 is actually a good record to have

in the postseason. Check out the stats here.

7-8 is a great record, indeed. I love how you say that with conviction of fact.

by SpazMo on Sep 30, 2009 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

having looked at that post using it now, there are 2 major flaws to using it NOW:

1) Pittsburgh went on to win its 2nd SB of the decade, which would clearly have put them above the colts according to the tone of that post

2) comparing the Colts success to the success of other teams doesn’t really jive with me. Colts fans seem to talk out of both sides of their mouhts sometimes. If y ou took a poll year to year of colts fans going into the playoffs, (not the regular season) and asked them who they thought the best team in the playoffs was, a majority would say the Colts. Now, you’ll say, well thats just blind homerism! Okay, but then when the colts lose to an 8-8 team missing their best pass rusher, or lose at home to a team missing their starting QB, RB, and their TE is on a bad toe, its not a failed season.

Does.
Not.
Compute.

People should be allowed to have their own opionions (and, unfortunately for you, thats all it is no matter how loud you type it or how matter of factly you say it) without being called names, etc… Way too defensive for my liking.

by SpazMo on Sep 30, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

Completely

AGREE with you SpazMo!!!!!!!

The Colts are my favorite team all time. I root for them and no one else. When their season is over, my football is over. However, to see the Colts lose to 2 underachieving beat up Chargers teams 2 years in a row, despite superior teams, it’s pathetic.

I’d rather see the Manning stinkfest of 2003 and 2004 against the Patriots instead of this…We should have gone deeper in the playoffs every year than we have, even if we didnt go to the SB.

I’m getting slammed for saying just that in the Kravitz thread…

Getting slammed here, is like a gentle hazing.

Everyone gets slammed at one point or another. You have to have a thick skin around here. No matter what you say sometimes, someone will come along and disagree with you. Don’t take it personally. Some people just love to argue.

It’s good natured debate and disagreement, but as long as you stick to your guns and show facts, eventually people come around. I’ve been on forums a long time, so I’m used to it :)

by DevilsReject on Oct 1, 2009 9:04 AM EDT up reply actions

I have a problem with it because

He’s placing a lot of blame on Peyton…and theres no reason for that

He doesn’t give reasons as to why he thinks the Colts will repeat the past (bad coaching staff, injuries, ect…)

And what really irritated me was the fact that 2 days before ( I think I have mentioned this several times) he was sweating the Colts like no other. Its like he’s bi-polar or something. And not just then, but several times in prior columns, as Cass pointed out, he writes exacty the opposite of other things he writes. Hes inconsistant and thats what bothers me.

by coltsfan723 on Sep 30, 2009 5:20 PM EDT reply actions

does anyone have the reason?

I don’t think Kravitz can give a reason, because he doesn’t know. His job is to write opinion pieces that will get people to read the newspaper. Despite 99% of this board thinking Kravitz is the worst writer in the history of writing, he’s still accomplished his goal. He’s not paid to be a homer. He’s not paid to lead the great Colts fan charge. He’s paid to write his opinion. He doesn’t say he’s an expert. He doesn’t claim to have some great insight into football.

You said he seems bi-polar? Isn’t it the slightest bit possible that in his opinion, he’s watching one of the greatest QBs ever? Isnt it possible that its his opinion that he feels blessed to be able to see someone play, perform, and act the way Manning does? And isn’t it also possible that given how he feels about manning, the offense, and the Colts in general that he feels atleast slightly disappointed that the team hasnt had more success than it has? When the Colts won 41, he wasn’t poopooing it. He wasn’t deriding it, saying, ‘well, they gotta win 2 or 3 or 12!’. How long has Kravitz been in indy? Im sure he doesn’t want to see this team fail.

Also, for the hypocritical count: I don’t see people here posting, LOL THAT KRAVITZ IS A JOKE when he posts something glowing about the Colts. So are you only saying he’s wrong when he’s posting negative articles? That seems a bit convenient.
