Week 4: Wednesday Injury Report
7 players sat today. Two with previously unknown injuries. Keyunta Dawson missed practice with a foot injury and Chad Simpson sat out with an injury to his abdomen. The other 5 are known or likely to be out for Sunday. Anthony Gonzalez (knee), Dwight Freeney (quad), Bob Sanders (knee), Gary Brackett (knee) and Kelvin Hayden (hamstring) sat out today.
On the bright side Jerraud Powers' groin soreness wasn't an issue today after costing him a game and some practice time earlier in the year.

Oesher has injury quotes from Hayden, Caldwell and Freeney. Hayden all but rules himself out for Sunday, but hopes it will be the last game he'll need to miss with the lingering hamstring issue. Freeney (as previously reported) refuses to rule himself out for Sunday and sets no timetable in accordance with his attitude towards injury recovery;
‘Tomorrow I’ll be ready. If it’s not tomorrow, it’s going to be the next day.’ That’s how I’m going to take it. . . . The intensity you have to be into the game has to be twice as much as practice, so I’m going to take it day by day. I’m going to wake up every morning thinking I’m ready. If I get out of bed and I’m not feeling it, then I have another day to do."
Caldwell continues to refer to Gary Brackett's situation as "day to day" and says Sanders and Gonzalez are making progress.
In addition Phil B reports that Eric Foster will be rotating in at defensive end this week, Tom Santi cleared waivers and was added to the practice squad, Kyle DeVan will continue to rotate in at RG and that Phillip Wheeler is in the mix at DE (but Phil doesn't expect to see him unless the DE cupboard is truly bare).

Ugh
Dawson has to play. We can’t have two true defensive ends on Sunday. Do you think Fili will be on the active roster this week? With Freeney out and Dawson hurting I think it would be smart to use him as a defensive end a little bit.
"Brett Favre was a man who thought he was retired, but he knew it wouldn't last."
possibly
if Freeney and Dawson’s situations pull Brock and Foster to the outside, then they probably want to replace them.
Last weeks healthy scratches were: Jamey Richard, Federkeil, Painter, Moala
If Freeney can’t go they might give his spot ot Richard or Federkeil, but if both Freeney and Dawson are out I think Moala has to be active.

As a rough measure of what we're missing
These four injured players are #1, 3, 4, and 6 on our defense if you rank them by salary cap numbers. And #7 (Marlin Jackson) isn’t totally healthy either.
And I’m still not worried about beating Seattle.
I just heard Seneca Wallace will start for sure on Sunday.
So maybe all these injuries won’t be too problematic. I think we’ll be okay. Especially since it’s at home.
"You can't defend the perfect throw, what can I say?" Peyton quoting Marino
Words of caution...
How many people thought Detroit would give the Colts problems last year? Or Cincinatti?
Two different teams, Manning is healthy, Lilja is back.. but I think that the Seahawks might be able to put points up on the board. Their WRs are good, they put up good rushing yards against the bears and the rams! (THE RAMS!!!)… This could be one of those games that the colts offense will have a chance to get up 2 or 3 scores early and get the Seahawks out of the paper cut offense, but if they are just a little out of sync and allow the ’hawks to stay around, it could end up being closer than it should for 3ish quarters.
mabye but there offense was very shaky last week
they scored but as long as we play solid without big mistakes and the replacements play decent we should be fine i wouldn’t be worried.

Agree
Overlooking teams, no matter how bad they appear at the time, is foolish. I wish we had all of our players healthy and I don’t care who we are playing as long as we play well and take every snap 100% seriously. I know the coaches do and I am pretty sure all of the players do.
I expect Seattle to play well and it may be a closer game than we think.

Only missing 5 starters...
I think it’s a sad commentary that as a Colts fan, only missing 5 starters doesn’t seem that bad. Seems like it’s that way every year. We should handle Seattle and then on to the next week. Next man up.
Has is that sad?
Nearly every teams has player nicked up, and the most of the starters who aren’t playing are still recovering from off season surgeries or are just healing short term injuries. It’s on big deal.
