Looks like the first recent draft pick to be let go will be Dante Hughes.

Two things come to mind:
1. The third round is just a curse for Polian

2. Dante should have continued to go by Dameion. He had a lot more success before changing the name.

Shake Edit: Justice and Graham have also been waived (same link).

Name

if only it was that easy.

The writing was on the wall for this one….he struggled bad in the last 2 games. He couldn’t even do the most simple tasks in coverage and he knew it.

Too bad for him because I thought he was going to be good when they drafted him.

Me too

I really liked the pick at the time. I had a chance to talk with Jeff Burris right before the 07 season started and he loved Hughes’ potential. Said the Colts were very, very high on him.

Fortunately since then Hayden has really emerged. And while I like Jackson, I do think the Cotls are still searching for another guy to put alongside Kelvin long-term. It might just be Powers.

Powers

The Colts need another guy besides Hayden who can play man-to-man coverage….one of the biggest reasons why we give up so many 3rd down conversions.

I think Powers is showing he can play in this league and I welcome him with open arms. I hope he can be a starting corner so they can possibly move Marlin to safety (I think he would be a solid safety).

Doesn't Concern me...

look I feel Lacey way outperformed Hughes; with that said I’m fine with this cut as long as we keep Lacey. I hope we cut Rushing; he is horrible. There must be a better return man on somebodys’ waivers.

It’s supposed to be Go Bears!, not Bears, Go!

How can you not love a team that does this?

Wheeler Next?

The thrid round curse continues. Last year’s 3rd not distinguishing himself to me either.

Hasn't gotten a lot of blog time

but I agree that Wheeler has underperformed. I expected him to burst onto the scene as the new SAM and make a lot of plays, but he hasn’t done that. Add to that the missed tackles and I am nervous. We will see how he plays once the real season starts, but I stand by my prediction that Hagler will be the starting SAM as the season moves on.

He could be like Clint Session

and start off the season Gilbert Gardner-esque and gradually grow to a force at SAM. That’s actually what I am expecting out of him.

Now a proud annoyance on Stampede Blue, 18to88, Indy Football Report, and Phil B's blog.

Man, I need a life...

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: This is how I fell in love with Family Guy. Only 1 question: Where did he get the flamethrower?

Justice and Graham

Not surprising for either to be cut.

Seems like Lacey

has won a spot. Either that or they’re going way too light at CB.

I think so too

and I predicted it (pats on back). If Caldwell thinks like I do (which he doesn’t I’m sure), we need more guys that have the ability to play man-to-man coverage well. Zone doesn’t help as much if we are bringing a corner or LB on a blitz with any kind of regularity. I love the Powers pick and think Lacey could also be a good find.

Justice

Knew it. He was just a bad player. Lacey could very easily make the roster. I think this year’s UDFA class came in with little fanfare. Cornelius Lewis and Grady were the only players that I thought had a chance to make the roster, but players like Humber, Tauiliili and Lacey have been awesome. I think Polian did an amazing job in this draft. The 2008 draft is looking iffy IMO.
