Chris Johnson wins Offensive Player of the Year Award
The Titans Chris Johnson won Offensive Player of the Year. Predictably, SBNation.com's Andrew Sharp is crowing about it, saying this award justifies his theory that CJ should have won the MVP over Peyton Manning. Andrew joins Terry Bradshaw as the only people in creation who think a runningback on an 8-8 team deserved the MVP award over the game's best quarterback playing on a 14-2 team.
Next up, both will share their views on evolution, the science behind black holes, and how NBC can solve the Jay v. Conan dilemma. Can't wait. It's like Einstein and Picasso talking shop at the Lapin Agile, only louder and with more hot air.
Congrats to Chris Johnson. We highly doubt we'll get any Tweets from Peyton Manning or Drew Brees suggesting CJ robbed them of the OPotY award. It's called "class", Chris.

Agreed.

Hmm...
So, the second paragraph makes fun of Chris Johnson and the third paragraph tells him to have class? Hypocritical much?
I think the 2nd paragraph
is towards Sharp and Bradshaw.
Congrats to CJ, he had a great year and got the award he deserved.
Hmmm
The second paragraph makes fun of Terry Bradshaw and Andrew Sharp. The third one tells a multi-million dollar football player who is looked up to by small children to stop acting like one.
Thanks for playing.

Wow. I love the parallel of a man acting like a kid WHEN kids look up to him
Wait, no I don’t, because that’s fucking gay. It’s 2010, not 1955. If your kids look up to NFL players for leadership, then you’re a shitty parent.
By the way, how is it okay for Manning to do an SNL skit where he pegs kids with a football and cusses at them then? How does that not “corrupt the youth” who look up to him?

I agree
I just think it’s hypocritical to criticize one guy for joking on twitter because “kids look up to him” and then laugh at another for pretending to peg kids with a football and swear at them.
It’s a retarded argument from 5 decades ago that holds no water now and never will hold water. Athletes can do whatever the fuck they want within the laws of society and the NFL. If you don’t think the joke is funny, don’t laugh. Just don’t sell me on this bullshit about, “KIDS LOOK UP TO HIM!!!” Grow up.

Misread
Yea, sorry that misread on the post was about as bad as some of Tom Brady’s misreads last week.
But I think the point still stands – the post rips into people and then says Chris Johnson should have class. It just doesn’t feel right to have both in the same post.
BBS makes fun of two people
who believe CJ should be MVP over Peyton – they may be the only two people living that think that and seriously CJ tweeting about the award whether it was a joke or not really came off as someone was just jealous and whining. He’ll have other opportunities, let him play great and lead his team to some more victories, make the playoffs and whatnot and he’ll win an MVP down the road too.
Well, I’ll officially go on record as saying Chris Johnson should have won MVP.
Guess we’re up to three people now.
I really shouldn't get into this debate with another person
but why is CJ the most valuable player in the league?
Because
The poster is likely U. of Texas fan, putting him on par (intelligence-wise) with Andrew Sharp and Terry Bradshaw. He also likely thinks Vince Young is a “winner.”
That post was also ColtMcCoy’s first post on SB Nation. Beware of trolls.

Chris Johnson really was the offensive player of the year
well deserved. Well deserved, I just hope CJ realizes that without Vince Young coming, he might have only been on like a 3-13 team.

See, the difference is that I’m a fan, and don’t speak on behalf of Peyton Manning. Chris Johnson actually said, in so many words, “I want Peyton Manning’s address so I can get the MVP trophy I feel I rightly deserve, even though the AP voters said otherwise.”
This is why Peyton’s Colts are in the playoffs with a first round bye and homefield advantage, and Chris’ Titans are watching from home.

Johnson shouldn't have won MVP
but I don’t think Peyton should have either. It is sort of a lose-lose debate for me to attempt at. Johnson did mean a significant amount to his team this year and did have a year that, if you could compare a RB and QB, would be better stat-wise than Peyton.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 1:11 PM EST reply actions
Once again
The MVP is not a stat-award. MVP is the key difference maker in a team and the vote will always go to Peyton as long as he pulls off those wins. It is not “meaning a significant amount” it is if he isn’t playing the team will suck. A case could be made for Troy and the Steelers defense too.

Ok then I'll reiterate
Chris Johnson meant more to his team than Peyton Manning did. I could care less if the Titans went 0-16 and Johnson still did what he did, it means more to run though guys than to stand there with the best offensive line support in the league and throw the ball to very capable receivers. What Johnson did was more of an individual effort than what Manning did.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 1:24 PM EST up reply actions
Wow!
Does Johnson call his own offensive plays? Can Johnson read a defense accurately and make the appropriate adjustments to make a big play?
No sir, the QB position is as much a mental game as it is a physical one, which is what makes it so challenging and pivotal too. And our O-line is not exactly the best in the league.

Ma'am
and I guess then maybe the Offensive Coordinator should have won, wait no because he didn’t pull off the individual effort that Johnson did. Last time I checked, Manning didn’t have to run through 250-300 pound guys to prove his meaning to his team.
And in protecting the QB, your O-line was the best.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 1:35 PM EST up reply actions
Yes ma'am
Effort usually without results is not recognized. That is a sad fact, but having said that, the Titans will still be a competent team without Johnson. Without Manning, the Colts collapse.

I don't think so.
They have enough talent otherwise that if a decent QB was thrown in there, NOT Painter, then they’d still survive.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 1:40 PM EST up reply actions
Maybe
I would disagree cause again, talent also needs direction and Manning gives them that direction on offense. This was also stated by Tom Moore.

Yeah
But that’s between Tom Moore and Peyton Manning. So do you think either of the two Chad’s would lead the Colts to 14-2? Yeah cause #18 is apparently too expensive right now for the Colts team.

I don't even think that either Chad could have
lead my team to 8-8. Although I would prefer Pennington. But the Colts are a different team than the Dolphins, so for the sake of the argument, I’d say that perhaps one of them could do it. But the Colts aren’t using the west-coast offense that Pennington brings.

An elite QB will always be more important.
We also have the worst running game, if Chris Johnson had the worst passing game in the league, he wouldn’t do jack.
And he didn’t with Kerry Collins.
by agradecimiento a dios on Jan 13, 2010 1:48 PM EST up reply actions
He still would have.
The passing game doesn’t effect the running game’s ability. It would just make Johnson get more snaps, hence more yards.

They wanted me to research stats for things that do not exist. My whole point was that it didn’t matter who was handing him the ball, Johnson was amazing based on what he could do, not who handed it to him. How do you find stats for that? I wasn’t going to go off and look things up when there isn’t some study called “Chris Johnson is amazing no matter who hands him the ball!” Come on.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 3:08 PM EST up reply actions
It's quite simple really
Look at his rushing stats with Kerry Collins at QB.
Then look at his rushing stats with Vince Young at QB.
Other than easier teams being on the schedule, not many other things changed with the Titans. Yet Johnson, all of a sudden, started ripping off games of 120+ yards.
Was it just a coincidence he starting playing better when Young became the QB?
Creator and developer of the Winning Stats.
Look, I'm tried of going through this.
I was attempting to argue that the Titans had more problems than Collins, I understand Johnson wasn’t as effective when Kerry was handing him the ball but I still believe that more than just the QB changed when CJ got hot. For the sake of not wanting to keep going over this as if it is a broken record, I think momentum changed and that is why CJ got hot. A lot changed, if you have any idea where I get stats for that, please let me know. I don’t believe you can find it, I just held it as my own belief.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 3:13 PM EST up reply actions
If a lot changed
Just stating what changed would suffice, no numbers necessary.
You said you weren’t researching anything, which includes this. I even offered up an easier schedule, which could have been researched easily. Did they get defensive players back from injury? Did other players on offense come back in? All things that can be researched without looking at one stat.
It came off as “I know what I think”, which I don’t think you meant. All I’m saying is you easily could have looked things up as counters without a single number.
Creator and developer of the Winning Stats.
It was more of a Peter King,
“I think I think.” I can only argue that I saw a different team play after the bye week, a team that was hungry and a team that knew they had messed up. It was just hunger that changed, that they were done with sub-par, that they wanted above-par. I think maybe that heated the whole team up and helped CJ prove his ability, it is just what I think I think.

Even by the convoluted standards Colts fans are using to defend Manning as MVP, Brees is the real MVP
I quote Hal41605:
“brees was the best qb this season overall. 70% completion in a bombs away down the field passing offense is just crazy.
other stats that are important and say i’m right:
TD%
Manning: 5.77
Brees: 6.61
INT%
Manning: 2.8
Brees: 2.1
TDs per INT:
Manning: 2.06
Brees: 3.09
Yds per attempt:
Manning: 7.9
Brees: 8.5
DVOA (value per pass attempt):
Manning: 38.1% (5th)
Brees: 46.1% (1st)"
Pretty convincing. Brees got robbed by a media that doesn’t actually pay attention to things.

You asked for a comparison to a team that is not good
It was given to you, and now you change the argument.
No matter what team, Peyton Manning didn’t lose a game the Colts tried to win. Drew Brees did. In fact, those 2 losses Brees played in could be placed on his shoulders.
Creator and developer of the Winning Stats.
Drew Brees lost games on his own?
Really? How odd because I did think there were 53 people on a team.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 1:40 PM EST up reply actions
You're arguing for the sake of arguing now
Maybe you should ask the AP voters yourself why 80% of them voted for Manning over Brees? None of us had a vote.
Had Brees played like the MVP you think he is, he (probably) would have beaten the Cowboys, and he certainly would have beaten a 3-13 team, both at home.
Creator and developer of the Winning Stats.
You are arguing for no sake.
I wasn’t arguing with you to begin with. The AP voters are in love with Manning, I’m sure it had nothing to do with two games Brees lost on his “own”.
by dolphinsinbuffalo on Jan 13, 2010 1:46 PM EST up reply actions
I guess we'll never know
Because the Saints lost 2 home games, one against a team with a top 5 draft pick this year.
Creator and developer of the Winning Stats.
huh?
in love with Manning yes, but the media was basically head over heels drooling for Brees! I live about the same distance from Indy and New Orleans, but the local news sure as heck talked more about Brees than Manning.
The weirdest question I have ever been asked: What would happen if I spent the rest of my life pouring water in a cup?
Dude...
You are not making alot of sense.
You said: “The Cowboys? Could you use a comparison of a team that is not good, unlike the Cowboys who are.”
Despite the fact that I had already stated that Brees sucked ass against the Bucs also, you wanted a comparison because apparently you missed it the firs time around.
I reiterated that Brees sucked against the Bucs. You rationalized that with: “Still a NFL team "Any Given Sunday"”
You are technically correct that the Bucs are “Still an NFL team” I submit to you, just barely…
You point out that Manning had a field day against the Seahawks (as he should) But then rationalize Brees’ suckedness against the Bucs (arguably a worse team than the seahawks)
I don’t disagree that Brees is a badass and I dont really care who wins the MVP. I just think that Brees wasn’t to “valuable” in the two games that I mentioned and that probably cost him some votes.

I'm not a dude, don't call me one.
And we aren’t buddies so there is another reason for not calling me that. I corrected you once, now twice, I’m not doing it again. I’m not a man.
Furthermore, Brees didn’t lose a game by himself, neither did Peyton. I don’t think that those games cost him MVP, it was the fact that the media doesn’t drool over him. I’m sure Manning didn’t win 14 games in a row by himself, neither did Brees lose two games by himself.

Where are you getting that number? FO shows Brees as being ranked #3. Manning is #5. That’s also cherrypicking stats. DYAR? And Sack/Fumble% do matter. Fumbles count toward turnovers, and Sacks count against your ANY/A, which btw, is a better stat to look at than Y/A. And a QB has plenty of control over sacks and fumbles, don’t try to pull the o-line card. It’s just not valid.

Brees didn't win because he wasn't the MVP of his own team
You want to say Brees had better numbers, and you’d be right because he did…
However, he also had the 5th best rushing attack in the league which allowed him to offset bad errors by running the ball.
Meanwhile, Manning just had the league’s worst rushing attack, 2 nobodies fresh off the college bus basically as his 2nd and 3rd WR’s….and still managed to be both the least sacked QB in the league as well as being in the top 3 in basically every measurable category…
You tell me who was more MVP for their team…….
I’ll give ya the argument that Brees definitely had a shot, and he was the only one who had a true legitimate shot….but having multiple games where his turnovers and lack of production was the reason the team suffered…..it’s not good…
Peyton failed to produce a passing TD once…. Brees twice. Peyton’s worst full game of the year was still a better game than Brees worst game.
