The one person I have not seen get ANY credit for this win...

I LOVE reading all the coverage and posts after a game like this.  There is so much good to say and challenge points that need to be addressed (ie. stretch plays with 3 defenders in the backfield before we hand off the ball).  We even got some MSM credit on both ESPN and NFL network.  I know...shocking!  Garçon got my game ball for his hustle and ability to play through the current disaster in Hatti.  My heart goes out to him and I give him all the credit for a truly professional performance.

I have to say that one person is getting left out in all the posts and commentary.  That person is LARRY COYER!  He IS the reason the Colts defense was able to play a game like we Colts fans have never seen.  His schemes were well designed and superbly executed.  That is the mark of a great coach.  Plans are key, but transferring that knowledge to the players and getting them to execute is paramount for coaches.  Coyer has been successful at that all season.

As I write this, I flash on a play not 30 seconds into the third quarter.  Baltimore got the kickoff to start the 2nd half and (I think) had gained a first down.  The Colts then showed an alignment I had never seen before.  I think it was 2 or 3 linemen down with a LB and a CB up to the line showing blitz.  The alignment cause the "Unibrow from Delaware" to get confused and call timeout.  Coming out of the largest adjustment period that a team has, our defense confused the opposing offense.  Just one example of the way Coyer has changed our mentality and the way our defense is viewed around the league.

We NEED to give credit to a change that has revolutionized the way our team is viewed!  Coyer is a great addition to our team and I love what he has done for our defense.

This is a great write-up and I could not agree with you more! These defensive schemes have been awesome and it is so different to see the Colts giving all sorts of defensive looks time and time again.

When I originally wrote the header of this post, I thought you were going to write about Pat McAfee…so, since a lot of other Colts players/coaches have been given their deserving compliments, I just want to take a second and thank McAfee for the awesome job he did last night. His kickoffs were great for the most part, but his punts…oh my! This kid is the read deal…

Agreed on McAfee...

I was worried when we drafted him, but it was again a great late round move by Polian!

I agree one hundred percent on this.

Coyers subtle changes to this defense has improved it greatly. I had tried to post this on the game thread during the game, but the website locked up here on the west coast. I just love our blitz package and Coyer knows just how much to use it.

Agreed

Defense was EXCELLENT in this game. We need the D to win the Super Bowl.

Absolutely

When it looked like Hayden was going to be eaten up by Mason adjustments were made and Mason practically disapeared for all practical purposes.

I’ve got to admit, Coyer had me worried when he never adjusted the D in the Miami game. And in some games (Texans, Pats) it looked like he was being outcoached for the first 3 Q’s. However, he called a great game Saturday.

Adjustments are the key.

It’s something the Colts of the Meeks years NEVER did. I love the fact that we can expect to see changes when something is not working.

Well said!

When it comes to ESPN, I think the only one there with a clue is Merril Hoge. He has cosistently praised the Colts D since the early part of the year. Unfortunately, he is buried in the first Sportscenter recap, and doesn’t get repeated all night like the rest of the idiots.
