For Sulaiman: A Glass of Ice Water for the Jets Fan

First, you must have the best 11-7 team in the history of the NFL. It has to be true. I mean, how could you have possibly lost seven games with your impregnable offensive line, bone crushing fullback play and vaunted rushing attack that could not be stopped with an armored brigade? It’s simply… unpossible to think. It pains any true football fan to even think that Miami, Jacksonville and the lowly Falcons would dare defecate in your sun-dried tomato bisque soup and dirty your teams record. Oh, and the lowly Colts defense… the one that stepped aside from day one and only permitted the Colts to win 15 games… surely there is no hope. The Colts should as well just skip the game so you can wear the AFC champion jersey you purchased from your team’s pro shop (which is secretly run by the staff of love-psychic.com) on Monday. It’s clear that your gargantuan, lumbering offensive line will wipe them from the field without breaking the slightest of sweat. After seeing what you did to the Bengals (clearly a juggernaut at 10-5 when the J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! played them), I suspect that the Colts starters and coaching staff have figured out the best move is to simply rest our starters in preparation for a Superbowl campaign next season. Why risk severe injuries like bruised egos, hurt feelings or gasp having a Jets player soil a Colts uniform? Why not just put a team of tackling dummies out there – since there’s little that Freeny and Mathis could do that a tackling dummy could not do. Third, Crackback has been polluting StampedeBlue with his special brand of wit, impeccable air of dignity and unique and unerringly myopic perception where somehow the Colts are no longer playing the 11-7 J-E-T-S but facing the Greek and Roman pantheon. It’s clear that hubris is not in as short of supply as logic, common sense and basic decency. Fortunately, Freeny and Mathis will sack Zeus while Manning, Wayne and Clark rob the temple. Prediction: 42-10 C-O-L-T-S COLTS! COLTS! COLTS!

Bah!

First off, I agree with everything you’ve said in your comment. I really don’t see the Colts losing. But…

Why say it at all? Oh no, Crackback is coming over here and dumping on our carpet so I’m entitled to go back and do the same. No, it’s unnecessary.

Most of the tension stems from the fact that Crackback (and Jets fans in general) are supremely confident that they will beat the Colts. What’s wrong with that thinking? We too are supremely confident that the Colts are going to win. So much so that we went to Gang Green Nation and posted what we thought the score of the game would be. Is that really any different than what Crackback is doing? He is a Jets fan, you think he is going to sit there thinking, “Oh man, the Colts are so much better, we have no shot at winning”?

Our line of thinking immediately turns to “Look, a Troll!” because he is a Jets fan who thinks the Jets are going to beat the Colts. GASP! He is not buying into our statistics that point to the fact that Colts are going to beat the Jets, stupid Troll! Get off your high horse. We turned a Jets bashing comment green at a Jets blog. That has to be the definition of Troll.

Finally, I like that in your second to last sentence, you talk about hubris pervading the Jets fans yet your last sentence reeks of pure hubris.

Have you read what he has been writing?

That is not confidence in his team. That is stupidity. Most of what he says can be laughed at and he provides no support for his arguments. When we engage in discussions with members of the opposing fan base, we are looking forward to a logical, thought provoking, debate. That is not what we got for the most part in the “Ask a Colts Fan” thread BBS posted on Gang Green Nation, or on our own threads when they decided to come visit. Our disagreement with him is not because of his support for his team, it’s because of the illogical and many times stupid “arguments” he brings up.

Another Jets fan awaits his airplane at the bus stop.

11-7. It will be a monumental, history making upset should the Jets pull it off tomorow.

Assuming an 11-7 team will crush a 15-2 team is a special kind of arrogance that deserves to be ridiculed in public, as does the notion that Colts fans have to quietly listen in lockstep agreement to your misguided defense of unrefined braggido.

Have a nice day, and enjoy Suday’s game, old chap.

Yeah because

A 10-7 team could never crush a 13-3 team (chargers last week) or a 9-7 team can never make the superbowl (Cards last year). The reality is that it can and does happen. So his “arrogance” isn’t necessarily unwarranted. It sounds like you expect him to believe his team is going to lose. What kind of fan would he be if he was thinking like that? I would expect any fan of any team to believe his team can win (except maybe Lions fans?). Especially in the playoffs.

And no I’m not saying you have to quietly listen to his confidence. All I’m saying is don’t complain about it when you’re displaying the same level of cockiness.

About Crackback

I actually like the guy. He’s got a sense of humor that is equal in magnitude to his support for the Jets. Part of being a sports fan is being able to take what you dish out.
