Shake - get excited...

Well, this offseason roster is already getting me excited about next year and we haven't even played our last game of the 2009 season yet. As I posted last week, we had 4 guys signed to the 2010 roster, but here's another that many people on this site were watching intently come draft day and were hurt when he chose Tennessee over Indy.

Wonder if he wishes he could be playing for a ring in two Sundays? Hope he contributes to this team in the future. I think Bill knows he always gets his man.

In Polian We Trust!!

I saw this on King's wikipedia page a few days ago,

but I couldn’t find any ACTUAL confirmation, so I never said anything.

Based on how he was hyped pre-draft (“HE’D BE A STEAL IN THE FOURTH ROUND!!!”), I have high hopes that he’ll be able to come in and make contributions to the team.

by hahasound on Jan 26, 2010 11:43 PM EST reply actions

I also heard a rumor from Mitch's home town that this was going to happen

But likewise, without confirmation I didn’t say anything.

Ok, what is a “future” contract and when does it start?

by the_iowa_hawkeye on Jan 27, 2010 7:24 AM EST up reply actions

basically,

he’s been signed to the roster, but not effective immediately.

He’ll officially be part of our team as soon as the 2010 offseason starts.

by hahasound on Jan 27, 2010 8:32 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah...

I kept seeing it in Wikipedia too, but whoever updated that didn’t put in a reference. I keep looking around until I finally found it referenced on Scout.com, which has been reliable in the past.

I only saw him beat up on Purdue a few times in college, but I remember him being disruptive, which is a good thing for our Dline.

I remember draft day

When he kept on falling and people were mad about every pick no matter who it was because it was not King. We got him now! He still probably would have been a better pick than Jaimie Thomas though.

ALRIGHT!

Ive been a huge king advocate since he came out of college last year. The kid may not be that big for a DT, but he has all the tools that the Colts want in a DT. He reminds of Eric Foster, in terms of his physical structure. Word is, the kid can really rush the passer.

by metal_militia on Jan 27, 2010 12:07 AM EST reply actions

Along with the rumor that I heard earlier

Was the compinon rumor that one of the things they were looking to King for was to have him shed a few pounds and play as LB, which was the position he played in high school and the position he was recruited as in college. He switched his first year to DT his redshirt year and then started at DT for the next four years.

Again, this is unconfirmed but did come from the same source that said he had been brought to Indy for a workout and would likely be given an offer.

I've never seen the Colts this active in the offseason period

Even though their season isn’t over. It seems like they’re just snapping up top free agents left and right. If they can get their hands on a top tackle next year they’ll be scary good.

by MARVININDY on Jan 27, 2010 6:20 AM EST reply actions

I’m curious as to what they saw in King that was so much better than Adrian Grady. They are basically the same guy.

I don’t quite get this move to be honest. That is unless Polian wants to replace Dawson or Moala.

by KingRichard on Jan 27, 2010 8:00 AM EST reply actions

Also...

None of the DTs on the Colts are free agents this season either.

by KingRichard on Jan 27, 2010 8:01 AM EST up reply actions

Huh?

Both of our starting DTs, Muir and Mookie, are FAs.

by KingRichard on Jan 27, 2010 9:39 AM EST up reply actions

which really isn’t free agency at all. If the Colts offer them league minimum deals they can’t sign elsewhere.

It’s a future contract, not a middle-of-the-season move, so there’s not really a downside to what basically amounts to a try-out.
