Freeney Has Torn Ligament
According to adam schefter:
Filed to ESPN: Colts DE Dwight Freeney has a torn ligament in his right ankle that will make it difficult for him to play if he plays at all
http://twitter.com/Adam_Schefter
This is obviously terrible news. He's a competitor and will want to get out there. But, a hobbled Freeney just isn't the same. I sincerely hope this doesn't end up being like the Billy Volek catastrophe.

Well....
I don’t want to say it, but we’re all thinking it.

Wow
I just heard this on ESPN. Hopefully we can get an early lead and use Freeney in 3rd down pass rush situations. Either way, next man up. Brock and Dawson will have to step up in his absence.
I will guarantee this guy will do everything he can to play. A torn ligament is a lot to ask…………..

Just wondering.

He'll have to be seriously hurt to miss this game
Hell of a player and hell of a competitor. I hope he plays.

Your user name rocks
and that’s one of the classiest opposing fan comments I’ve seen all playoffs. You’re officially my favorite.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.

ha, thanks
the username gets mixed reviews. Some say it’s sacreligious, I say it’s edgy.
As far as your favorite, I have a feeling some of my other comments may change your mind. Remember, they are not meant to be mean-spirited, just a little healthy smack talk.
But seriously, these are two solid teams top to bottom. We finally have a SB that pairs the best two teams of the season. If Freeney is out, it’s obviously a big break for us. But that’s not the way I want it, a real football fan wants to see both teams at full strength for 60 minutes.

Hate to say it...
but this is nothing short of catastrophic. Mathis has really struggled to get pressure in games without Freeney coming off the other side. This game was going to be tooth and nail to begin with and a top flight pass rush was one area where the Colts clearly had the advantage. I think our odds of winning just went from 55% to 45%. This sucks.

Mathis has 9.5 sacks in 11 games. He's not that bad.
Our DTs are better, you’re underrating the Indy offense as well. The NFC doesn’t usually face a defense like this.

On the bright side...
…Raheem Brock has been a very capable back-up, and should Freeney not be able to play every down, he will step up, and step up big. It has been the story of our defense all season! Brock is no Freeney, but he is definitely more than capable.
In other words, the sky has not fallen, Indy-faithful. Well, at least not yet…
Besides, Indy could use Freeney much the same way other teams use different running backs to change the speed of the offense, meaning that once Bushrod gets accustomed to blocking Brock, Freeney can come in and exploit Bushrod’s comfort level with his speed.

Odds
“I think our odds of winning just went from 55% to 45%.”
I has the Colts at 80% (very confident) and that has now dropped to 52%.

I was thinking more like 51.2%

Lets get real here.
While Dwight “might” not play we still have a smothering defense. We won both weeks 11 and 12 without him-against the Ravens and the Texans. The Texans as you all know have a great passing game. Freeney has played thru injuries before and in a game of this magnitude I cannot see him missing. Deion Sanders, Warren Sapp, Marshall Faulk and Michael Irving all said at the Pro-Bowl tonight that they were familiar with this type of injury and that they were positive Freeney would play. Freeney said on Jan. 28th that he fully expected to play. Phillip Rivers played in the AFC championship game against the Patriots with a torn ACL! As Warren Sapp said, “The whole side of his body could be torn, Freeney is NOT GOING TO MISS THIS GAME.” They may have to mix it up a bit more but he will be there. Besides, Brock has been very good. While he may not register the sacks Dwight does he IS able to force a QB to roll out to the other side-right into the hands of Mathis. Mathis had good games in weeks 11 and 12 and Brees always rolls out to that side. But believe me, Dwight will be playing in the Super Bowl! It will probably be with his ankle shot up, wrapped up and numb but he will be there AND making a difference. Oh, and by the way a few others will be there too-Bracket, Session, Bethea, Lacey, Mathis etc. etc. etc. Be of good cheer, will we win this game.

Also, the Colts are contradicting Schefter.
I don’t know who to believe anymore.

This is the report I believe.
Thanks for finding this and sharing

yeah
and john clayton also had a report up where he said it was a very bad sprain, but no mention of a torn ligament.
if you find john clayton’s report, notice that it appears his mythological pony tail is sticking out a bit when he turns his head to his left.

Great Points
Freeney is very important to this team….and I expect him to play because of the competitor he is. But even if he is ineffective or has to exit early because his ankle gets worse, I don’t doubt for a second that all of the other players will step their game up a notch and get the job done.
Also, I have never felt as confident about Peyton’s ability to break down defenses before this playoff run started and I continue to feel just as strong that the offense will make plays to win even if it becomes a shootout.
I don't always drink beer....but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.

Polian said:
Manning has been studying film from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Also, all of the players feel great about their preparation this week. They would have been ready to go today! Peyton said at the Pro-Bowl tonight that even more prep-work was going to be done this week so the team would peak at just the right time. I have no worries.

This needs to be repeated!
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP)—The Indianapolis Colts are maintaining that Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney(notes) has a low ankle sprain, not a torn ligament, and that he is still questionable for the Super Bowl.
Team spokesman Craig Kelley said Sunday night that Freeney was being treated in Florida.
Earlier in the day, ESPN.com reported Freeney was unlikely to play against the New Orleans Saints because of a torn ligament.
Freeney injured his right ankle with about 2 minutes to go in last week’s AFC championship game. He was rushing quarterback Mark Sanchez(notes) when he pulled up and hopped toward the sideline.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell and team president Bill Polian both said this week they were hopeful Freeney would play against the Saints.

Common nasty ankle sprain.
Team spokesman Craig Kelley said Sunday night Freeney was being treated in Florida for a basketball-type injury, NOTHING MORE.

I doubt I am alone
when I say that I believe 100% Freeney will play in the game, but am also now getting the, “Oh sh*t…” feeling. He will play, and it appears to be a sprain, not a torn ligament as previously reported, but he will only be playing at around 60-70% if we’re lucky, and that’s with cortizone and all the other treatment he gets, IMO.
I still think we can win, whether Freeney is playing at 100% or not, but consider me far more nervous than I ever planned to be.
