Colts Dump Deshea Townsend, Make Plethora Of Roster Moves
With the expected return of Jerraud Powers and Justin Tryon from nagging foot injuries this week, along with the wide receiving corps utterly decimated with injuries, the Colts have parted with veteran corner Deshea Townsend. Townsend spent most of his 13 year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was signed the day Colts training camp started with the intention that he teach some of Indy's younger DBs how to play in this league. Townsend's play on the field has left a lot to be desired. He was pretty much last on the depth chart for the corners.
The news on the injury front involves Austin Collie, who has been ruled out for the game against the Bengals with a concussion. Defensive tackle Antonio Johnson will return to practice this week. No word yet on if he will play.
The Colts also promoted Chris Brooks from the practice squad seeing as the only healthy receivers on the active roster are Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, and Blair White. Activating Brooks, who was a fairly recent addition to the squad, is pretty much a slap in the face of Brandon James. James has been on the practice squad since early September after spending all of training camp fighting for a roster spot. James also returns punts and kicks, but it seems clear that the Colts do not trust him with those duties yet.
Unless my math is off (which is probably is), the release of both Townsend and Andre Brown opens up one roster spot for Indy. We will probably see some kind of follow-up roster addition today or tomorrow.

“Expectation is for #Colts to promote WR Chris Brooks from practice squad.”
You linked it as a fact.
In the meantime Colts worked out former Miami G Donald Thomas and released Humber from IR.

And many teams are interested in Al Harris, no word on if the Colts are one of them.
we need
Powers and Tyron bad and wanted to see Brandon James get a chance to return kickoffs,, we need someone who can do something a break a few and at least get us past the 30 yd line sometimes!!!
Al Harris
signed with the phins…

Collie
I’m very glad to see Collie is being held out of the game. To play him a week after that concussion would be inexcusably reckless with his health and career, not to mention tactically foolish to risk losing him for the season to gain a slightly better chance to beat a 2-6 team.
I love what Collie brings to the team, and he seems like a nice enough guy, and that’s why I’m glad he won’t be playing this week. We’ll need him too much later on. I’m not sure if it was his call or the team’s, but whoever made it did both the right and the smart thing.
Colts
are not stupid like a lot of other teams dealing with concussions

Chris Brooks
In 4 years at Nebraska, Brooks caught 17 balls for 210 yards. And I’m not sure he ever permanently became a starter.

he's younger, more effective, and he returns kicks too

P. Wilson
P. Wilson’s new tweets say Brandon James has been promoted, not Brooks, and that Tryon probably won’t play.

Powers
It also sounds as though Powers will play.

So much for that face slap against BJ
He got promoted

So that's 1 or 2 moves. I was expecting more out of a plethora. Goddamn deflation.

I used 'plethora' in most of my high school essays
Which is probably the appropriate medium in which to use it — assignments written by 16-year-olds. I felt pretty cool for using it. This, on the other hand, is not a plethora.
I always think of the jefe from "Three Amigos" when I hear "plethora."

Godspeed Townsend
Im glad Powers and Tryon are coming back, but Deshea Townsend was a decent player, a good veteran.

Al Harris
The problem with him is he is strictly a man coverage corner. Madden score is about right, he is rated like 91 in man and about 75 in zone coverage. Unfortunately, we use more zone coverage than man. Man coverage and blitz gets more sacks and interceptions imho, especially the nickel 3-3-5
