Manning faked the handoff to Rhodes -- "I thought I had the football along with everyone else," Rhodes said -- then scooted around left end.

It was the second-longest run of Manning's career. His longest came on the same play at Buffalo on Nov. 1, 2001. Manning faked a handoff to Rhodes and took off around left end for a 33-yard touchdown.

Indianapolis Star informs us that Peyton Manning's bootleg at the end of the game against the Raiders was indeed a called running play... for Dominic Rhodes.

Watch Rhodes after the the fake handoff

He sprints around the line in an attempt to throw a block for Peyton. Got to love his football IQ and his spirit!

Yeah I saw that haha

At first I thought it was reggie but it was good ole dom!

by icedude on Dec 27, 2010 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

Glad he is back

Dom could be the difference in this playoff run. Give him another week or so to get back in to sync with the offense and he could be a big difference maker.

You know what the MOST exciting part of Manning's run was?

The fact that we had a hole to make the first down if he would have handed the ball off too! When was the last time you saw a running back have a hole to run through on third or fourth and short?

Bleedin' Blue for as long as I can remember. Can you believe we get to be fans while our team has the greatest QB of all time?!?!?!

off topic

But I can’t make fanposts from my phone. When will we see ken hamlin? The man was a stud a couple of years ago for the cowgirls…is he an upgrade from francisco?

Speaking of the cowboys…I’m here in Korea now…and I’m about to go have lunch with some of the cowboys cheerleaders. If I wasn’t in acus I’d throw on my garcon uni and get some pictures taken…I guess I’ll just have to try and impregnate as many of them as I can haha. That would be sweet revenge.

We saw him...

He got a 15 yard facemask called against him on special teams. It was pretty blatant too; if I remember correctly he damn near pulled the guy’s head off. Not a great first impression, but I too am holding out hope. There is definitely some potential to displace Francisco as proven by his past with the Cowboys. We’ll see, but it might be too late though. It would have been nice to sign him as soon as Bullitt went down (I heart Bullitt).

<3 Bullitt

But yeah, he pulled the dudes helmet off. What the hell could he have been thinking? At least stop pulling on the facemask when he’s down/helmet starts to come off. Geesh.

The best thing about this play...

was that Dierdorf the moron thought Peyton slid early to avoid injury. I was so happy to see Peyton come out and say the he slid to run out the clock and not put the ball back in the Raiders’ hands rather than Dierdorf’s ridiculous assertion that Peyton couldn’t make it to the endzone from three yards out so he slid to avoid injury. I hate Dierdumbass with a passion. He and Collinsworthless are neck and neck for my most hated commentators. Please CBS, send him to cover the Grey Cup next weekend (I realize the Grey Cup was over a month ago, that is my point.). Worst play by play ever hands down belongs to Bryant Gumble though.

Ok, so it wasn’t the best thing about this play, but I love seeing Dierdumbass look like the moron that he is. The actual best thing about this play was how much it had me literally jumping around my living room laughing and loving it and that it sealed the deal.
GO COLTS!

To say Manning was concerned about injury

is very reasonable and prudent on Manning’s part. He was about to get violently tackled. I don’t blame him for sliding. The assertion by Dierdorf, this time, is not ridiculous. Why do you think he slammed the ball down hard in frustration after he was one the ground. My thinking is that he was pissed he wasn’t fast enough to get into the endzone when he was so close. But it worked out well anyway.

He slammed the ball down with a big grin on his face - so I'm not thinking he was upset.

He wanted to run the clock out, that was obvious – at least to me. Why give the Raiders another chance?? Why even risk it.

Plus, if you have read any of his interviews from Sunday night or yesterday, Peyton was adamant that he would have scored if that’s what he wanted to do.

I have no doubt

Peyton could have gotten into the endzone, but at what risk to his body? The defender was one second from clocking him good. I still believe that Peyton wanted to preserve his body (rightfully so). But, maybe his plan all along was to run it to the three yardline and slide. I really don’t know for sure. Just looked like he did the smart thing to not get body slammed.

Tripped from behind, maybe. Bodyslammed, probably not so much. Peyton said it himself, if he had wanted to get into the endzone, he easily could gotten there.
