Bob Sanders to go on I.R. soon...we need the roster spot with so many injuries.
Jim Irsay tweets the inevitable. And I am officially raging on the Colts right now.

So much for dangling that carrot in front of our faces
If he went on IR in week 2, or week 7, or whatever… fine.
Holding the roster spot open for three months, THEN putting him on IR with four games to go? That’s ludicrous. Surely they had a better idea about this whole ordeal before today. Is it because they really want to sign someone in particular and can’t afford to cut anyone else? If he would definitely/“very likely” be able to play in another 2-3 weeks, then there are alternatives.
Option B: Keyunta Dawson.
Option C: Gijon Robinson.
Option D: cut all of the above. Good lord this is just ridiculous.

Shocking
What a waste of a roster spot for the past 13 weeks.
So let me get this straight...
The Colts hold the roster spot open ALL SEASON for this guy, and give up now. This either means the rehab didn’t go as well as planned and Sanders wasn’t as close to returning as they had hoped or that the Colts have exactly zero sense of roster management, shutting the door on the proverbial eve of his return (really, he’s still a week or two off I’d think.)
This is so, so, so dumb. So unbelievably dumb if true. Why the hell would you hold this spot for so long and then make THIS spot the one you dump for injury concerns? Why not dump Jaimie Thomas or some worthless OL who can’t start for the league’s worst OL? Why not dump Joique Bell? Why not dump a dozen other plays before Sanders? It’s not like anyone will pounce on them while they’re out there.
I’d also like to point out that the Colts sent Gonzo to IR because they were holding out for Sanders’ return. So this effectively wastes both players.

The Gonzo-story is the worst part (beside that Francisco’s playing for the rest of the season).

Hmmmmmmmmm.
Week 16 last year, cutting Lilja and now this? Are people maybe finally starting to realize the obvious? Polian is no genius. In fact, I’d say he’s the exact opposite.
It was a gamble
Our defense is not the same without him. Period. Look at the players we have trotteed out there this year at safetly and his is much better than any of them. It was a calculated risk. It didn’t work. When you compare it to the dumb ass things Polian has done in the last year like cut Lilja, draft players much earlier than they were expected to go, blaming the line for the SB and not helping them in the offseason, and the continued reliance on Gijon Robinson, it wasn’t that bad of a move.
I’m not so caught up on missing out on Gonzalez. He can’t stay healthy. Until he proves to me otherwise, I will hold to that statement. Were so beat up it’s a challenge just to field a team right now. That combined with the awfull play and for once I’m just praying this season ends. If it isn’t embarassing losses it is more injured players out for the year. I’ve just had enough.

Well fuck.
Okay guys, great season. Time to pack it up and wait for next year, with our top 20 pick.
We rise. They fall.

Eh, we should have never relied on his return...
Even worse, neither should the Colts. This is just terrible roster management, folks. This season has been a trainwreck for the front office. I realize injuries limit you to a great extent, but if Sanders really was close to returning — and I’m not sure he was — you’re telling me that the Colts NEED a Joique Bell or Jaimie Thomas? Last I checked, there are still three active RBs ahead of Bell (Brown, James, Rhodes) and THAT position figures to get healthier…and Thomas can’t sniff a snap on the league’s worst OL.
Such a joke.

I would venture to guess that he's unable to play.
Even if he had a remote chance to return it wouldn’t make much sense to IR him and sign some Safety off the street just to have an extra body.
If that's the case...
and indeed he cannot return due to medical reasons, then the Colts never should have kept him on the roster all this time, let alone prioritized him over Gonzo who by all accounts would be ready to return by now. They essentially said “we feel better about Sanders’ return than Gonzo’s return” and they lost on both.
It’s horrible roster management either way, but doubly so if Sanders is indeed medically-unable to play.

We should have used that Pick on a O-Line, or defensive back, or a receiver
