Around SBN: Trent Richardson Interviews Fellow Brown Brandon Weeden

Gregg Rosenthal over at NBC Sports already has the Colts meeting the Packers in Super Bowl 45 and the #1 team heading into the 2010 season (New Orleans is #6--apparently Gregg wasn't too impressed with the Saint's victory.)

Oh, how I yearn for the days when the media proclaim the Colts more done than Tom Sizemore's acting career.

Their defense is pretty good.

I think they were ranked #2 at some point (maybe it was just the secondary) but they kinda fizzled in the playoffs. I think Kurt Warner might’ve pointed out some of their flaws in that last playoff game…A performance like that has to command Ted Thompson’s attention…

agreed

in general I don’t like us being predicted for the SB – puts a target on our backs (as if there isn’t one already), and predictions at this point are likely not to come true. Weren’t the Patriots the consensus pick to win the SB last season? Yeah, thought so.

How can you not love a team that does this?

If Polamalu keeps healthy next season

Your team is a high contender, as I’m sure your offense is not gonna change and your main weapon will keep being the defense, what isn’t a problem.

Of course we might have a healthy Bob Sanders for an entire season... when we play Madden

If our offensive line improves from mediocre to average, we will be a top 5 offense in yards and or points

But what can your OL do

When your QB holds the ball for more than 5 secs deciding what to do? Big Ben isn’t Manning or Brady, QBs with good pocket presence and quick releases, but still, you may have a stellar OL; if your QB doesn’t help, the pocket will break and he’ll be sacked anyway

Of course we might have a healthy Bob Sanders for an entire season... when we play Madden

by trOOly on Feb 23, 2010 8:27 AM EST up reply actions

You're making Ben sound like an average QB

The oline needs to run block more consistently and eliminate the quick sacks. If they do that, I will guarantee that we’ll be a top 5 offense

But he isn't

He just holds the ball too much, but to do such thing, he needs a better OL to hold the pocket.

The probable lock-out

worries me. I want our guys to get the SB this season, just in case. Any more than that (say back-to-back ’10 and ’11 SBs) would be gravy.

No one said Cowher was overrated after 2006

All Coach T needs to do is make this training camp more like the 2007-08 ones than the 2009 one. I’m not sure how going 9-7 after losing the best safety in the game. And it’s not the first time someone’s made a bad prediction.

I still think Cowher's overrated.

1 SB win doesn’t put him in the “elite” status that everyone seems to think he’s in. Same thing goes for Dungy, as much as other Colts fans would hate me for saying it. The best coach the Steelers have had in the past 15 or so years is Dick Lebeau (sp?), and he’s only a coordinator. He’s the main reason the Steelers made it to those two SB’s in the 2000’s and they’ll remain contenders as long as he’s running the defense.

And Polamalu is Bob Sanders twin. Great safety, when he’s not on the sidelines hurt.

Wow!!!

I come back 8 hours later and see that there’s almost 50 comments on topic! I think I deserve a cookie ;-)

Anyway, I’m nervous about this dude already calling the Colts the AFC favorites. Hopefully the rest of the media will still ride the Chargers, Patriots, and Steelers’ jocks (even though I see Pit as a serious threat pre-draft).

I don't see any of those as serious threats.

I mean anything can happen but there aren’t too many teams that worry me yet. Pats/Chargers are getting older and just don’t pose the same threat.

I agree that the Pats' and Chargers' windows are closing

The Bengals will be mediocre this season as well, and Jacksonville and Tennessee are going through rebuilding. I think that the major AFC players this year will be Pitt, Indy, Bal, Hou, and NYJ.

I haven't been paying

any attention to pundits either, but many will be talking about you guys at the start of the season, especially if Troy’s healthy. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Ravens are also considered an “elite” team that can bring down the Colts even though the Colts have pwned them the last 5+ years.
