Hargrove's "injury"

4th Quarter, Colts driving. Hargrove gets "injured" and the Saints get a free 10min timeout.  Colts lose their momentum and the Saints get an int.  Teams do that to us all the time. I question the "injury" because I saw Hargrove dancing with the cheerleader's pom poms at the end of the game.  Not trying to take anything away from the Saints; great game Brees. As a Purdue alum I'm happy for you.

Umm..

Hargrove was actually also back in the game and got flagged for the personal foul (late hit) on Addai, so clearly he was perfectly fine…change this rule, if you’re guy gets injured, it should cost you a timeout no matter what. The Saints deserved this win, but teams utilize this strategy on explosive offenses/no-huddle offenses all the time to catch their breath, get situated and slow the offense down. It’s BS!

Hargrove and his knee were fine were fine

Hargrove was jumping up and down like a fool when the game was all but over. Something needs to be done about “fake” injuries. I say the player either has to sit out the entire series or a minimum number of plays or burn a TO.

change, change, change

Come on colts fans…does there ALWAYS have to be rule changes after EVERY single big game you lose???

I’m not gonna lie, that stuff would aggrivate me as well but that’s how it is. Colts lost to the Pats in 03 AFC Champ game…contact on WR’s rule is changed….probably a few others I can’t think of now… I guess Bill Polian will have a busy offseason with some rules to change…

by ColtsnotasgoodasPats on Feb 7, 2010 11:16 PM EST up reply actions

Damn..

Coming from a Pats fan, this means nothing, considering you would legalize all forms of cheating if you could. Please, this isn’t about the faked injury on this occasion, this impacts all teams that have great offenses and are forced to stall due to some flopping job by a defensive player…it happens week in and week out, and it is classless and distasteful, but again, you probably wouldn’t understand that.

Sigh

Yet another pats fan we have to explain to that the rule was on the books. Our playbook was designed with the notion that the rule would actually be enforced. When it wasn’t, there was just cause to bring it up and request that it actually be enforced in the future.

On another note, it benefits all offenses equally.

How can you not love a team that does this?

Get off our blog.

Come back when
a) you think of those nebulous “probably a few” other rules that have been changed
b) you learn to spell aggravate
c) you’re ready to stop using a rule that benefits passing as an excuse for losing when your QB set the record for TD passes in a season under that rule
d) you can explain why you would be aggravated by a fake injury that benefited your opponent if the rule is ok as it is
e) never

touchy, touchy...

First off, I didn’t spelling was a BLOGGING requirement here guys. Come on now. Secondly, my point was two-fold. Yeah I was taking a shot at the colts and Polian but also I’m pointing out that there are many other reasons the colts lost the game beyond a fake injury. 2003 vs. the Pats. Willie McGinest. Sure he faked up an injury but the colts still got stuffed 4 times at the 1 yard line to lose the game….that’s why they lost. Throw in a little not being prepared for a 2nd half opening onside kick and Peyton’s 4th Quarter pick tonight, and you’ve got just a few right there for this loss.

and oops

Hey, let me point out first there was a missed word above as I was rushing to get this in so sue me. But for real…Colts had a great season. Two years ago was one of the worst feelings ever when you know your team was better but just not on “that” day. Congrats on an awesome team and an awesome year. Like the 07 Pats, just a little short in the end.

Rather be 18-1 than 16-3 sitting out a couple while ticket holder pay big bucks to watch…

If Belichoke’s ego did not get in the way, the game with the Pats would’ve been a lot closer.

It's just part of football

It had nothing to do with losing that game. No need to blame the rules.

Anybody doubts Payton and the Saints will fake injuries is highly naive

The fake punted, they trick played, they do all the tricks just to win…. (well, at least they try to win) it is totally NOT beyond them to fake injury at critical junctures…. many teams have done that to the COLTS… you think the Saints are really “the Saint”?

They fake punted?

Which play was that?

I agree something should be done

But I don’t know about timeouts for every injury. Some games have a lot of injuries, so that would mean a team that’s already getting the short end by losing a key player, also loses a timeout. Just doesn’t seem fair.

It looked to me that Hargove had a twisted knee (or alleged twisted knee). Those can be painful initially and seem far worse than they are. It’s kind of like when you turn your head too quick and get that sharp pain . . . his interior knee got twisted up and he thought it was far worse than it was.

But you’re all right, I don’t put it past any team to pull a fake injury. Seen it plenty of times at ALL levels of football.

I doubt Hargrove faked the injury

He probably just had a stinger, This is really grasping at straws it wasm a great game with 2 great teams lets not make it anything more then that

by mississippisaintsfan on Feb 8, 2010 10:27 AM EST reply actions

Maybe other teams would do that

But the Saints would not take their best D lineman and have him fake an injury during a game thats on the line
The Saints are not a team who uses this tactic they never have and i dont believe they need to

by mississippisaintsfan on Feb 8, 2010 1:04 PM EST up reply actions

Well, that's your opinion.

My point is that we’ve seen this happen several times over the years, and from the fact that he was back in shortly afterward (have to see the game tape for exactly how long he was out), there is doubt to the veracity of the injury.

by vintagephoenix on Feb 8, 2010 1:15 PM EST up reply actions

I agree we see it a lot.

However, there is a lot of other things to focus on about this game than that. I don’t blame that for our loss so much as ten other things. We have to be careful to not sound like whiners who want to blame everyone else for robbing us. The Saints played well and were very well coached. They deserved it, even though this stinks for us.

Not meaning to respond to you particularly so much as this whole mindset. This was just a good spot to say it.

This is the Colts board

So i’m not going to argue with you about it
Everyone has an opinion you have yours because you know what has happened to the Colts in the past and I have mine because I know our team and our defense and defensive coach

by mississippisaintsfan on Feb 8, 2010 1:31 PM EST up reply actions

The tactic is used against ALL teams...

Let’s not just think this only happens to the Colts. It happens to everyone. Probably more often to the colts because of their very effective no huddle but still it’s not a mutiny from the league against just the colts.

Guys like this Pats loser always come out of the woodwork after a Colts loss.

Where were they in congratulating us after winning the AFC Championship? Just trolling and hating. Funny how they love to pile on when someone is down. Says a lot about the type of worthless person they are. I don’t think I set foot on their site after their humiliating one and done loss to BAL this year, but if I did or would have, it wouldn’t be to pile on during that time. A bunch of bitter losers and fans of a team that is quickly becoming irrelevant out east.

by coltsfanawalt on Feb 8, 2010 1:05 PM EST reply actions

You might want to look up...

My post wasn’t about rubbing it in…and I congratulated your team on having a great year. The thing that gets me is we jab a lot at eachother. And I’ll admit, I’m just as guilty in the Pats/Brady can do no wrong and Colts/Manning are evil category…and Colts fans do the same but just the other way. Don’t tell me you all weren’t dancing in the streets 2 years ago.

by ColtsnotasgoodasPats on Feb 8, 2010 2:40 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting

My husband also said recently that the Colts are “evil.” To me that’s a very strong word and unwarranted. What is evil about the Colts? They don’t cheat. They don’t pile on points. They don’t play dirty. And despite what many uninformed people think. they don’t get rules “changed.” So tell me… where is the evil?

How can you not love a team that does this?

As a Saints fan, I think the Colts have an excellent team and Manning is a phenomenal QB

I think what hurt your team was your schedule. Not that it was easy or hard, but because you =faced very few “Elite” QBs. When a great team like the Colts face another good team that has the ability to be competitive with the Colts, but has a vastly inferior QB- as in Tennessee, Jacksonville, NyJ, Ravens,SF, etc it is a whole different feeling and situation. Not much pressure. This season you had very few games where you faced an elite QB- such as Brees, Favre, Mc Nabb, Rivers, Rodgers, maybe even Roethlesberger). etc. You did face Brady ( and almost lost) and Warner, but I think the C0olts would have been better prepared and confident if thy had beat more elite QBs during the regular season. Having a showdown with Joe Flacco is kind of a joke. All the Colts have to do is keep it close or keep a lead and they know they will win in they end.

Your injuries did make a difference

We were lucky in a way. Lots of injuries- more than most. But, almost everyone came back after2 – 6 weeks. Two huge injuriew we had were Jamaal Brown- our Pro Bowl OT (didn’t play one snap), three TEs (all backups to Shockey
but very important) and a FB that I am certain would have been all- pro (Heath Evans). But we were fortunate. Payton and Loomis found a way to get a lot of depth, and to use the personnel in the best way. The aquisition of Dave Thomas was an unbelieveable pickup. He played FB and TE both and on a scale of 1-10 he was about a 7 or 7.5 at both which was good enough til Shockey came back.

What about the no-call on Austin?

In addition to the fake injury, the play before the int, Austin was clearly being held when he was trying to catch the pass. He looked to the refs with his hands out, but like the rest of this game there was “no call on the Saints”. That seemed to be the overriding attitude of the refs. R. Brock’s twitter comments only confirm what I saw in this game and the Vikings game. I don’t think the NFL was going to let the Colts win this game period. They allowed the Saints to get away with everything they wanted.

Keep beating that dead horse

Jesus get over it. This gets thrown out there after every Colts game, win or lose. The Colts are a very good team and I have nothing against any of their players or coaches, but I’m starting to hate them just because of their whiny and obnoxious fans.

Every team had injuries

and every team left the middle of the field open against us. they were forced to.
