Colts Only Mock Draft
Here’s another fun Colts mock draft to freely criticize/praise at.
Just a few thoughts before you go ahead and view the mock. As much as I would like the Colts to draft an OT with either of their first couple picks (assuming value is there), I find it unlikely that it will happen unless possibly Charles Brown is still on the board in the 1st or Saffold/maybe Ducasse is there in the 2nd round. Since I think they will be gone by the time the Colts pick in the respective rounds, I do not have a possible OT prospect until the mid rounds. Also, I rather not assume the Colts will trade up/down to get an OT.
FIRST ROUND: OG/C MAURKICE POUNCEY - FLORIDA
“Coaches rave about his field intelligence and ability to make line calls while making the shotgun snap. Has exceptional quickness and gets into good position to pass protect and shows excellent awareness helping other linemen. Plays with a nasty disposition and delights in putting defenders on their back even if he has to run downfield to find a victim. His toughness was reflected before the Sugar Bowl when he had to receive treatment for kidney stones hours before kickoff but then was ready to play. –Frank Cooney, USA TODAY/NFL Draft Scout”
SECOND ROUND: CB AMARI SPIEVEY - IOWA (need your opinion Shake)
“impressed at the Combine, has reportedly received a first-round grade from some teams.”
“A shutdown corner with good speed, the 6-foot Spievey immediately becomes one of the better cornerbacks available in the draft. Spievey had just six interceptions in his career, including two in 2009, because teams rarely threw to his side of the field.”
THIRD ROUND: DEKODA WATSON - FLORIDA ST.
“Watson still led the Seminoles in sacks (4.5) and was second on team with tackles for loss (10). He is well-spoken and will interview well with NFL teams. He is also a guy who has played hurt and still given great effort...In regards to the Senior Bowl: “showed better agility and instincts in coverage than he had earlier in the week. His most impressive play came early in the third quarter when the game was still tight. Playing his customary strong-side position on 3rd and 1, Watson fough off a block by tight end Garrett Graham (Wisconsin) and beat Fresno State running back Lonyae Mill to the sideline. Miller projects to run the 40-yard dash in the 4.4 range, Watson showed tremendous closing speed and strong hands to make the pull-down tackle and force a punt.”
FOURTH ROUND: OT ED WANG - VIRGINIA TECH
“has the prototypical body for a left tackle in today's NFL and enough of a mean streak to play the position… is a fine athlete who showed very good footwork against Murray State's athletic 6-6, 270-pound defensive end, Austen Lane, in team drills”
“a former tight end with a quick 40, so you know he's athletic enough to play left tackle at the next level in any sort of system”
FIFTH ROUND: DE DANIEL TE'O-NESHEIM - WASHINGTON
“He leaves UW as a four-year starter and the team's career leader with 30 sacks. However, he helped his cause with a solid performance at the Combine, ranking among the best defensive linemen in the vertical jump (37), 3-cone drill (6.91) and short shuttle (4.18). At the Washington Pro Day Wednesday, Te'o-Nesheim proved both bigger (6-3 1/2, 267 pounds) and faster (4.63) that scouts expected…There are few players in the country who play with greater and more consistent hustle and intensity that he did throughout his career. – Rob Rang, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com”
I orginally had him in the 6th, but found out the Colts do have a 5th round pick but not a 6th rounder. I think Te'O-Nsheim is still realistic at this spot. He would a bring a high motor style of play that would fit with the Defense well.
SEVENTH ROUND: OT/OG DENNIS LANDOLT - PENN STATE
“He started all 39 games the past three seasons, moving to left tackle this year after two seasons at right tackle. Landolt was instrumental in Penn State finishing second in the Big Ten in total offense (406.9 ypg) and allowing only 17 sacks in 13 games. He earned his second undergraduate degree this past December... selected Third Team All-American for the 2009 college football season as voted on by The Associated Press”

Spievey's very good
I’d love him in the 3rd, but I wouldn’t question him being taken in the 2nd.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
Some teams
have first round grade on Spievey. According to walterfootball.
A good mock draft. Only, instead of backup OTs, a DT would be good too or a blocking TE.
I really was looking for a blocking TE, but had trouble finding one in the mid to lower rounds. I don’t see a TE that the Colts would need in the first few rounds. My thinking with the OT’s is that they would start out at Guard, but possibly transition to the RT at some point in their career ala possibly Ryan Diem style.
That Daniel Te’o-Nesheim guy from Washington looks pretty intriguing as a backup DE and special teamer, but I think late 6th round is too low for him….I’m thinking now he goes earlier.

TE- Hoomanawanui
You can put Te’o-Nesheim in the 5th, we have a 5th rounder and no 6th rounder. And in a week the compensatory picks are announced. We get a 6th or 7th.
I pretty sure the Colts gave up a this year's 5th rounder for Moala...

no, it was a 5th last year, they didn't have one

Pretty good...
I’m a little iffy on the Dakoda Watson pick. I would probably look for a safety here. Someone like Larry Asante or Darrell Stuckey. Then instead of Nesheim in the 5th I would grab a LB like Kavell Conner. I like the rest of the picks. Wang in the 4th would be really good value.
Interesting picks
I like the picks that were posted. The only thing i noticed missing was the small school guys Polian is noted to take. I.E. Garcon, Bethea, Diem and Robert mathis. I also think Polian and company are gonna shock us on draft day. I.E. Dallas Clark, Trading down to get Bob Sanders and drafting Reggie Wayne. Don’t be surprised if we draft a few defensive backs as well, Marlin is gone, I don’t think Jennings will be around much longer and Lachey and Powers are young. So depth could be addressed.
