With the 10th Pick in the 2010 Stampede Blue Community Mock Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select...

Rolando McClain, LB - Alabama

Pick made by peytonsthebest:

Resisting the knee-jerk reaction of picking [QB Tim] Tebow, I decided to go with an actual team need as well as the BPA. The Jags need to strengthen their defense. McClain is a great player as well as a great leader, something I believe is lacking for Jacksonville. His Pro Day 40 time was 4.69, which is fast for a guy who is 6'4" and 248lbs. Can he cover Dallas Clark twice a year? I certainly hope not..

McClain has the ability to both rush the QB and drop back into coverage. He recorded 105 tackles including 14.5 for loss. He also racked up 4 sacks, 14 QB hurries, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. (Source Wikipedia)

How will he impact the 2010 Jaguars?

This 1st team 2009 All-American who was awarded both the 2009 Lambert Award (best collegiate linebacker) and the 2009 Dick Butkus Award should make an immediate impact as both a player and a much needed leader for Jacksonville's defense.

A special thanks to members of Big Cat Country who pointed me in the right direction

If McClain is taken #10 by the Jaguars, it would be the first LB taken in the first round by the Jaguars since 1996, when they drafted Kevin Hardy #2 overall.  He will also be only the 2nd player from Alabama drafted in the first round since 2001 (Andre Smith).

Poll
What do you think about pick #10 by the Jaguars?
Correct pick. Fills position of need with best player available.

This pick sucks...

for the Broncos ;)

I was a little surprised. I think the glaring need is in the backfield. However, when someone of McClain’s talent comes along, if you need any help at that position, you take it! It would be similar to Earl Thomas falling to 31. The Colts are pretty solid at safety (we could use some depth) but when Grade A talent is there for the taking…you take it. Therefore, I have no problem with this pick.

I think if this were to happen in April, the Broncos cry!

I would have taken Thomas

if someone else hadn’t already snatched him. The more I read about that kid, the more I like him.

It was really between McClain and Haden. I backed off Haden because of his 40 time (which he reduced drastically at the Florida pro day) and I felt that J-ville’s D really, really needs a leader and some sort of pass rush. I also read (after I submitted my pick) that this McClain kid is super-duper smart. I actually hope Jacksonville, or any other AFC South team, doesn’t take him…for obvious reasons.

No we search a new (M)LB

So McClain is make sense; and he is very high on the Jaguars list. So I liked the pick very much(it is my opinion; that the Jaguars should dtraft him in with the 10th)!

Forget Bryant- Gene Smith will not draft a Wr oin the 1st round unless he is the next Jerry Rice…

The backfield takes a bad rap

Because the front 7 is horrible at pressuring the QB. The Jaguars had 14 sacks in 2009, which is the 5th worst total of all time. It’s hard to judge the secondary as poor in that situation.
