With safety upgraded with the signing of [Antrel] Rolle, and [MLB Rolando] McClain off the board, the Giants feel free to go BPA among other positions and select Spiller. They feel they can upgrade their OL and DL later in the draft. Injuries and age are starting to wear [RB Brandon] Jacobs down, and the other RBs don't seem able to carry the load. Spiller could be perfect complement to Jacobs, as well as a playmaker for the Giants.
How will he impact the '10 Giants?
C.J. will likely start 2010 as Jacobs' back up, but could get heavy playing time when Jacobs is on the sideline. The addition of Spiller will add another dimension to the Giants offense.
If Spiller is taken #15 by the Giants, it would be the 1st RB taken in the first round since 2000 by the Giants, when Ron Dayne was taken #11 overall. He will also be the 1st RB taken in the first round from Clemson since 1987, when the 49ers drafted Terrence Flagler 25th overall.
