Jason Pierre-Paul, DE - South Florida
Pick made by Addai Another Day:
After losing Albert Haynesworth and Kyle Vanden Bosch the last two offseasons, the Titans are in rebuilding mode along their defensive front. JPP has been shooting up the boards since the college season has ended. He has prototypical DE size at 6'5 and 270lbs, but has only played one season of DI football. Stopping the run isn't his strongsuit, and he was sometimes taken out of obvious running plays in college. Where his value is is in the pass rush. Coming off the line, he is shot out of a cannon. He could stand to learn some pass rush moves in the pros. He mainly relied on his speed in college, resulting in only 6.5 sacks. His upside, however, is tremendous.
How will he impact the '10 Titans?
In the upcoming season, he should be a starter right out of the gate. This is because, well, the Titans don't have much there. Make no mistake, JPP is raw. Don't expect a rookie season like Jevon Kearse's. JPP will take a year or so to learn some moves and adjust to the speed of the game. Expect 6-9 sacks, but not a lot of tackles.
If Pierre-Paul is taken #16 by the Titans, it would be the 1st DE taken in the first round by the Titans since 1999, when the aforementioned Jevon Kearse was taken #16 overall (ironic, huh?). He will also be the 2nd first round draft pick ever from South Florida (Mike Jenkins). He'll also be the first DL from USF ever drafted.
