Iupati could slide right in as the Left Guard for the oft injured David Baas. He plays with tenacity and a mean streak that helps him get to the second level quickly. He's very athletic for a big guy and can help neutralize Defensive Tackles with his quickness and strength. He is a bit raw in pass protection but is a very solid run blocker that should help open holes for Gore and Co.

This might be a bit of a reach but with Haden sliding out of the top 10 to the Niners and their first pick, they can afford to take a player with massive upside that fits a need and adds to depth. Iupati could team with [T Joe] Staley to solidify the left side of the 49er offensive line for years to come.

If Iupati is taken #17 by the 49ers, it would be the 1st G taken in the first round by the 49ers since 1987, when Harris Barton was taken #22 overall.  He will also be the 2nd first round draft pick ever from Idaho, and the first since 1967 (RB Ray McDonald).  The last 2 Guards drafted out of Idaho were Jake Scott (2004 - Colts) and Mark Schlereth (1989 - Redskins).
