With the 32nd Pick in the 2010 Stampede Blue Community Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints select...

Carlos Dunlap, DE - Florida

Pick made by palco:

The Saints need to get help on the defensive line and at linebacker, as the defense did a good job but they need more pressure up front. Charles Grant failed to live up to expectations, so they really need help at defensive end because they play the Falcons twice a year, and there is not much cover on the defensive front.

Dunlap is a big pass rusher has a rare combination of size, strength and he is a first-team all-conference selection and had nine sacks in 2009. He could fit as an end in 4-3 or 3-4 defensive schemes and he plays similar to Jamaal Anderson of Atlanta Falcons. Dunlap has good quickness to challenge the offensive tackle in pass protection and good upper and lower-body strength, but struggles maintaining leverage he has the strength and ability to knock the run blocker back into the pocket and disrupt running plays. Dunlap bats a lot of balls down, he has good awareness of throwing lanes and also has blocked several kicks over his career on special teams. Teams may shy away from Dunlap because of an incident before the SEC Championship game, and thats why Dunlap is available at 32.

How will he impact the 2010 Saints?

In my opinion Dunlap will become a starter by end of the season. He has the strength to hold up well against top Offensive Linemen and has great talent but his character and work ethic have been questioned. If he can overcome these issues and make them a thing of the past, he could be a great pass rusher in the NFC. He shows flashes of genius but has to do this on a consistent basis, a player with great instinctives, who just seems to know what to do. He can become a Superstar or Super Bust, it's up to him.

If Dunlap is taken #32 by the Saints, he would be the 1st DE taken in the first round by the Saints since 2004, when they selected Will Smith #18 overall.  He would also be the third DE from Florida taken in the 1st round over the past 4 years (Jarvis Moss and Derrick Harvey).

OK pick, but might be a little high for Dunlap.

Wrong pick. The Saints should have looked in another direction.

Anderson?

You’re gonna make that comparison and still pick him? Dunlap has tons of potential but hasn’t fully lived up to it. Unfortunately he looks like a bust.

Hooray, on to the 2nd round.

Yeah

Please, no Suh on any NFC South team.

I was talking to some Atlanta fans last year about Suh. This subject came up “What if Tampa gets him?” Everyone’s reaction was “Oh h*** no! We need to let Tampa win some games.”

I agree.

You’re probably going to get McCoy.

Random fact of the week from the empty void that is my mind: That sucked.

About the pick....

The Saints just cut a lazy DE(i.e. Grant). I don’t think they will take a chance on another with that reputation.

Time will tell...

The other alternatives are Everson Griffen DE Southern California and Alex Carrington Arkansas State and I guess we will have to see what happens with these three..
