Chad Simpson Waived
This makes me sad, not because of Simpson's return capability (or lack thereof), but I thought he was a solid #4.

Ha!
As the Human Touchback, at least. Why, oh WHY did he not take a knee in the SB?!!!
He did show promise as the #4 RB, though. This must mean Hart is healthy!

This was my thought too...
about Hart, that is. So I’m happy to see that Hart is now ‘officially’ the #3 back. I still think that kid could make big plays if given the chance.

I liked Chad too but;
Maybe this is a sign that Polian is gonna go after a better KO specialist. Mike Hart isnt the answer, either is Sam Giguere or Roy Hall. In the later rounds I’d like to see a KO specialist/CB or WR prospect.

I could see Guns being our returner.
He did very well in the snow in Buffalo.

We don't need 4 running backs
Or a terrible kick returner.

OR...
a decent sized FB to punch holes through the defense?
Careful what you wish for... a government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything you have.
We've been complaining about 3rd, 4th and 1 right?
What about Toby Gerhart? That guy’s an absolute monster, and he’s falling much lower in the draft than I would have anticipated. It would seem to me he’d be a nice complement to the speed we have.
But a 4th running back would be a waste. He isn't a FB and don't think he would be used as one. We have two capable players who can be fullbacks at times we just don't run that formation enough
so when we do do it they already know what we are doing.

With Gerhart, it probably wouldn't matter if they knew.
But your point is well taken – I’d rather have another defender, I suppose. Someone else is gonna get a steal in Gerhart, though, in my mind.
I agree
Very solid #4, but to me, your #4 has to be great at something in order to keep his spot. He wasn’t great at Returning, clearly, he was possibly great at playing the Gunner position – but if that was the case, they would have taken him to camp. I’m sure the Texans or Titans will sign him sometime before Training Camp.
GO HORSE!!!
Texans, maybe...
I don’t see the Titans picking him up, though. Their pick last year, Ringer out of Mich State, will prob see the field this year. Loved Ringer at MSU… a bit afraid to see him against the Colts now.

Poor Chad... he was really misused
I mean, he was shoehorned into the return position, but he was really unsuited for it. Yet, when given touches as a running back, he proved he could handle it. It’s just that there weren’t a lot of touches there to begin with, not with Addai and Brown in front of him, and it’s legit that those two were ahead of him. Poor guy’s just a victim of not succeeding where he didn’t belong and also holding a position on a team stocked at his position. There’s just no way the Colts could give him many touches at RB. It’s just the way the roster is staffed.
It’s nobody’s fault; poor guy’s just the odd man out at RB, and Indy willl definitely want to improve the return game, so he’s out of a job. That’s the nature of limited rosters in the NFL, but at the same time, it can work to his advantage; Indy’s too stocked, but there’s got to be some other team that needs depth at RB. Simpson can fill that role admirably. I honestly think he’ll find a role somewhere. He has the skill to be Indy’s #3; he’ll be someone’s third back somewhere. Heck, there might even be a team that’d have to shoehorn him into a backup spot for whatever reason (not getting their guy in the draft, a draftee not working out, someone getting injured, whatever…) and he could definitely be a solid placeholder in that job. I think the guy’ll land on his feet.
In other news, this looks to be a sign that Indy’s sincerely looking to upgrade the return game. I didn’t think they’d stand pat, but it seems to me now that they’ve got a plan in place, either with the draft, or with a free agent somewhere, because it’s apparent that they’re starting to make moves. I think that’s a good thing.

I personally think Chad actually is better than Mike Hart who couldn't get 1 yd in SB
But what do I know.. I agree with EMH he was shoe-horned into the return position, he may be a bonda fide good RB if given the chance to run more….

You read my mind, 18to87
I’ve been secretly hoping that, too. Ok I guess it’s not so secret any more.
How can you not love a team that does this?
I think it is
We draft one or re-sign Rushing.

Yep... that is why i don't understand why he was not given more chances....
One may not be a good returner but a great RB…. this move really makes me sad.

Playing RB, on the Colts,
requires more than just being able to follow blockers and run fast… you have to be able to block and help protect 18. Hart can. Simpson couldn’t.
Careful what you wish for... a government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take everything you have.
Excellent point.
The whole “g*d dammit Donald!” is a perfect example of what is required for our RBs. Addai does a great job blocking. They also have to be able to catch the ball. I don’t recall Chad catching a pass.

Can't say i have...
but i’d bet a year’s salary that the coaching staff has. And theirs in the only opinion that matters.

I hear
they are clearing up room to bring back Gilbert Gardner. Fingers crossed!

Quick: Pick one to play LB for the Colts
A) Gilbert Gardner
B) Gilbert Gottfried
Nothing's complicated if you understand it.
I'll take Iago.

Didn’t they more or less sign him as a possible kick returner? Futures contract originally then onto the roster later?
Oddly enough
