The Dolphins have failed to sign both Antrel Rolle and Ryan Clark in free agency, and a guy like Darren Sharper wouldn't be long term solution for this issue. Nate Allen would offer the Dolphins something their past free safeties didn't have: good pass coverage. He started the final 39 games of his career, and in 2009 he led his team in interceptions, and was second in tackles. He is also a reliable tackler both in the box and in the secondary, and has great work ethic. NT is also an urgent need for the Dolphins, but Terrence Cody is already taken, and Bill Parcells prefers to get DTs later in the draft.

How will he impact the 2010 Dolphins?

I really think Nate Allen would fit very well with the Dolphins; they'd get a pretty good young trio with Sean Smith, Vontae Davis and him. Still, I think Chris Clemons would be the starter heading into Week 1, specially because they need some veteran leadership back there, at least to start their season. This wouldn't be bad at all because Allen is also very good in special teams. I'd bet he eventually gets the starting job over Clemons by around mid-season, and keeps it for years to come.
