Mardy Gilyard, WR - Cincinnati

Gilyard can help immediately with the Niners return game, establishing much better field position than they have had in recent years. Gilyard was electric returning kicks for the Bearcats including a dynamic return in the Oklahoma game. He has good vision and does a good job of finding his lanes and following his blockers. Not too shabby for a kid who was living out of his car just a few years ago. He should also find playing time in the slot at receiver. He's not a #1 receiver type but should be able to find the holes in the zone out of the slot.

I considered taking Dexter McCluster with this pick based solely on what I watched him do to my Vols. However, I went with Gilyard who has had more success in the return game and seems ready to play out of the slot right now.

Since I know this pic was probably made last week

I voted that this was an OK pick. But with the entire Ginn family now in place to take over return duties, and probably handle slot WR duties as well, I’d say they would now go an entirely different direction.

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
