Rodger Saffold, OT - Indiana

The Chiefs line is rebuilding. While the additions of Ryan Lilja and Casey Wiegmann have helped, it isn't enough. Branden Albert hasn't panned out at LT like they had hoped and Brian Waters isn't getting any younger. Rodger Saffold would allow Alberts to be able to move to guard when Waters finally retires. Saffold is a very good and consistent pass blocker as he went up against very tough competition while in college. He is a good run blocker who plays to the whistle. He's a hard worker and a team player. At 6' 5" and 316 lbs he has adequate size to play the position. His arms aren't as long as one would like and he had injury issues his junior year. Also, his initial punch could use improvement. Overall, he is a highly underrated player who has serious, first round calliber talent.

How will he impact the 2010 Chiefs?

Saffold could walk into camp and unseat Alberts as the starter at LT or step in and play RT. This should help keep Matt Cassel upright. His run blocking should help open holes for rising star Jamaal Charles. Although he may not ever be a yearly All-Pro, he has the tools to come to KC and be a solid, and possibly even great, player for KC for a long time.
