Tonight we find out which two teams will play for the College Basketball National Championship. All four teams were ranked in the pre-season AP Top 10 poll, so these squads are the real deal. First up is Butler-Michigan Sate at 5:07 CST. West Virgina-Duke closes the night at 7:47 CST. This is tonight's open thread, so chat about whatever is on your mind. Then I missed a putt
In one of those holes that has two options to go into. I missed the first option (which usually is harder to get into but is easier one you get to the area the cup is) and the ball went into the second option with the larger gravity well.
Then it just stopped. I had never seen anything like it. I then managed to get it to go into the first option, and it went right into the cup on the second area.
I still can’t believe that. I couldn’t duplicate that shot if I tried as hard as I could.

Maybe it's my bias from having grown up watching IU basketball as played under Knight...
… but I thought I’d be seeing a bit more driving to force the issue, see if the offenses could pick up some fouls on the opposing defenses. There was a transition play where Butler chucked up a 3 from the wing; I expected the guy to fake, then put it on the floor and drive baseline. Force the defender to either stand his ground (and not be able to respond to any trailer coming down the lane), or come out and defend and risk a foul near the basket. But the guy put up a 3.
Sigh… I think I’m just an old fart.

But the principle still stands: On plays where the situation is favorable, drive and see if you can get the defender to foul you. It just feels like a general principle of play to me, not something specific to one coach’s style.

That’s why part of the situation demands the trailing guy to be running down the lane. If the defender is disciplined and stands his ground properly, you either shoot over him if you have the height or leaping ability, or you pass it to the trailer.
I thought I saw a Butler guy coming down the lane, driving baseline would’ve forced the exact situation I was thinking of, especially since the first defender flew by trying to block the 3 pointer. Now, make that a fake instead of a shot, one defender takes himself out of the picture. Drive baseline and give yourself a 2 on 1 situation (provided I’m remembering correclty and that Butler player was indeed coming down the lane). Force either the foul or get the open shot. The principle is to force that two on one situation.
But, it seems like it’s just not being taught any longer. For the life of me, I don’t understand why.

True, but regular season characteristics don't always apply to tournament games
And I’ve seen plenty of teams do plenty of things contrary to their character once the pressure of the big dance is on. That’s magnified for teams with younger coaches and also for teams who traditionally haven’t gone far.
This is not to say that Butler is doomed to clutching fatally to their lead, and in doing so strangle it to death. Rather, it’s a warning against getting away from the style of play that got them as far as it did to begin with. The positives weighing in favor of Butler include their discipline and heart. They just have to keep on playing smart basketball, is all I’m saying.

It’s a side effect of having watched so much Bob Knight/IU roundball over the years, but games without defense just seem boring and – dare I say it – half assed.
Keep in mind that the offenses aren’t necessarily bad. Rather, they’re playing in the face of tough defenses. That makes them look inefficient. In reality, they’re struggling to overcome the difficulties the opposition is giving them. There’s a certain beauty in that.

3rd could have been better and maybe outfield and bench but thats about it. Got great pitchers in my opinion.
Weaver wasn’t my first choice but needed someone and he should have a good year or I would be willing to trade him. Wouldn’t have taken street if I hard realized he was on the DL.

I had gone Friday afternoon as boyfriend had Saturday off (he had been on night floats the whole month)
It’s four hours away at an average of 80 mph.
We had a Syrah from Spain and it went perfectly with the lamb my mom cooked. It’s very rare that we have lamb, but someone had given it to my mom, so she decided to do it. It was delicious.

Yes If GB because of the departure of Kampman Decide to replace him by going after someone to brong pressure on the pass
then I see that happening. When you see this it is dependent on other picks. Like if McCoy Goes to Minnesota which actually seems like a possibility if favre isn’t back (wont know till to late). Probably will thats why it is McCourty.

don't think Mays is a good fit for PIT at all
with his cover skills he’s a box safety at best and that’s Polamalu’s role. With who is available I think Weatherspoon at a ILB is the best pick for them.
Also think 26 is really really high for Norwood and Dallas would be unlikely to pass on Davis for Cody. A big fat LT would be their dream pick.

they have a great NT
he also fits at DE so NT isn’t impossible, but I think LT is a bigger need. They don’t have a major need on the DL and picking Cody throws in the added risk of a position change to open a spot for him, they do have serious need on the OL.
Zona: I think Spikes would be better, but maybe Cody like you said, or if the reshuffling drops them Graham or Weatherspoon. Maybe even Davis. They could use some OL help too, just not as bad as LB. They might want to address the OL if there isn’t LB value (which I don’t think Norwood or Spike are).

to me the pick although A need isn’t there biggest (though can you really say what is they are horrible at this point) so it is more of the fact that Berry is arguable the best or a top 5 value and way to good an opportunity for the Browns FO to pass up.

they could probably use some guard help, but unless they trade Barron they are pretty solid at the tackles. Go defense. They could use a DT, DE or OLB badly.

I had just finished writing a fleshed out explanation. Sent it. Feel free to add or write up your own.
The Colts have two Pro Bowl caliber ends, but both are nearing 30 and a situational role is best for Robert Mathis as his 245lb frame doesn’t lend itself to great run D and his most successful pass rushing seasons have come when he wasn’t asked to play likely running downs (he started less than 3 games in all 3 of his double digit sack seasons and both of his Pro Bowl seasons came after the Colts reduced his role back to situational duty). Graham is fantastic value, a strong enough player to hold down that LE spot for Mathis when rushing the passer isn’t the main concern, Graham can fill the hole left by Raheem Brock (the D-lineman to see the most snaps for the Colts last year) being released.
Graham is also a very good pass rusher making him a excellent backup, spell player and successor to the Colts current ends. The Colts D is hugely reliant on pass rush from the defensive ends and the effects of injury on Mathis and Freeney were clear last year. A end of Graham’s abilities behind Freeney and Mathis allows the Colts defense to hold up without one of the Pro Bowl ends.
Graham’s college production was eye-popping with very nearly 1 sack and 2 tackles for a loss per game the last two years. He excelled against top competition in the Big Ten including a thorough undressing of top prospect Bryan Bulaga this past year (though Bulaga had played just two games at that point sandwiching a 3 week absence from the lineup due to the thyroid infection). Graham is a phenomenal meeting of value, instant impact and future potential. Brian Price was a player considered here, but defensive end is a far more vital piece of the Colts defense and the rotation used by the Colts at DE will let Graham see about as much time as Price would have in the DT rotation at a more premium position.

Well what happened locked in those picks.
I linked what the lions moves were earlier but here it is again: http://www.prideofdetroit.com/2010/4/5/1406287/lions-receive-seventh-rounder-from. This means that for one (not related to the top 5 picks) that seattle gets there 5th rounder and Lions get the Seahawks 7th rounder. The sims move by them is the biggest as they got rid of the guard pretty much guaranteeing that Bukas would stay at LT and that they would take SUH.
The other is that the Rams cut Bulger which pretty much solidifies that they will take Sam Bradford.
Redskins got McNabb so for those that thought maybe Clausen that is out the window now and they are pretty locked in that they will go get Okung.
