Reggie Wayne unwilling to commit to attending training camp. Says he'd like to see Anderson but is waiting for a call... hmmmmm.

I really don't like the sound and tone of it.......

I still believe Wayne will not hold out…. BUT how will this affect the team, the chemistry and the common goal of winning SB45???? Anything less than a SB is a failure…… we need perfection!! DARN IT!!!

Peyton’s contract is up sooner…. and seems like his is not even moving forward….. why does Wayne have to do this at this time when he has two years left??

If you see my smilieys, think of E.M.H. - our COLTs King of Smileys!

Because he only has two years left

And he knows he won’t be getting a pro-bowl level contract at 34, if he gets one at all.

Really don't like the whole

tone of the way he went about answering the questions. Maybe it’s just me, but he seems to be getting a bit cocky about it. I don’t know. I really hope he just shuts up and does what he says “just go out and play football.” It’s been said a hundred times and I’ll say it again…you signed the contract now do your job. I have had the utmost respect for Reggie, but if he holds out, then I will lose a ton of it.

I may get blasted for my views, but so be it. Opinions are like ass holes…everybody’s got one.

Honestly I don't know how making this hold-out thing public and creating so much noise

are going to help his cause…… My impression is that Colts is not an organization that will give in to this kind of tactics…. /sign……

I really don't think

The colts are that type… but then again they are good about paying the guys before it gets to this point. Peyton has one year left…Reggie has 2. The Colts are built around Peyton. Peyton will get his money and he deserves it. Reggie and Robert (who also has 2 years left) need to take a step back and worry about this next year. Both are great assets to the team therefore, both will get their money in due time. Big P comes first. No exceptions.

He's being non-committal

Which is EXACTLY what you’re supposed to be if you want any leverage at all. If he wants a deal, he want the colts to at least be worrying that he might not be around.

by slash196 on Jul 18, 2010 2:37 AM EDT up reply actions

'you signed the contract now do your job.'

The problem is, if Reggie played badly for the past 2 seasons, the owners wouldn’t honour the contract just for the sake of it, they’d cut him. So its only fair that in the same way if he plays extremely well, hes allowed to ask for a new contract to reflect that

He's not doing situps in his driveway

He’s using the only leverage he has to try and get an extension while his skills still merit it.

Will he get one? Probably not. Does he deserve one? Probably. Let’s let this thing play out; it’s the ugly business side of it.

actually opinions are like fingers

people usually have many of them

How can you not love a team that does this?

by LovinBlue on Jul 18, 2010 12:41 PM EDT up reply actions

Two more things

1. “You signed the contract, now play for it” means nothing when the Colts could release him tomorrow if they wanted and not pay him another dime. The NFL is all about right now.

2. Reggie won’t hold out of camp, because all holdouts that stay away longer than August 10th get another year added to their contract automatically. The CBA was very smartly put together to discourage shenanigans in an uncapped year.

by slash196 on Jul 18, 2010 2:43 AM EDT reply actions

Reggie says that the only thing he can do is

come and play football.
Well Reggie, DO SO.
Besides, its not the only thing you “can” do. That’s the thing you MUST do. Why? Well, you’re paid to play football, attend training camp, so on. He still has a contract saying all that.
His tone isn’t very inspiring.

…Your opinions may be unpopular with the majority, but certainly not with me :) I thought Reggie came across as deeply cocky and entitled in that video, and regardless of how eloquently some of you have explained it, I just can’t muster up much sympathy for his ‘plight.’ Watching that video made me wonder whether the infamous WR Diva Disease is eventually contracted by every single wide out in the league!

I agree with those who feel he’ll show up to training camp, at that’s certainly in his OWN best interest. However, to what extent will his attitude affect his work ethic and performance?

Contrary to the hullabaloo

that was BBS’s post and the strong reactions following it. I think this is a total non-story. Reggie was relaxed, seemed “unrehearsed”, and like he was having a good time. My gut says we’ll Reg at training camp catching passes, running routes and teaching 17, 85, 11, 14, and 15 the finer points of playing WR in the NFL

by naptown_ninja on Jul 18, 2010 3:59 PM EDT reply actions

I'm embarrassed to admit that...

…I had to just look up a couple of those numbers you listed to see exactly which WRs you were referring to. (How could I have forgotten the awesome and ridiculously gorgeous Austin Collie’s number?!) Clearly, I need to devote even MORE of my time ‘studying’ this team ;)

And I certainly hope that your instinct about this ultimately being a ‘non-story’ is correct! Thanks for giving me some much-needed optimism :)

I completely agree Naptown.

About the non-story issue. I think there’s a very good chance we’ll see him in camp regardless of any contractual changes as well. We’ll see.

A day later

Sometimes BBs makes good points. Sometimes he doesn’t, in my opinion. There were two competing points in yesterday’s thread and I fully agree with BOTH

1) Reggie Wayne is an asshole (who’s totally within his rights) for trying to renegotiate before his contract is up and hinting at a holdout.
1a) he doesn’t deserve a raise

 2) Reggie is one of the Very Best, so why shouldn’t he ask for more money, and threaten to hold out because that’s all the leverage he has
2a) he totally deserves a raise

BBS and DZ regularly seem to get into it, and people take sides. It’s that simple. Spazmo’s novella +BBS’s hurt feelings = closed thread. In these epic debates between BBS and whoever, it’s our guy who makes it personal, and our guy who shuts it down for getting personal. It’s BBS’s perogative. Big deal. All we can do individually is be nice to one another. Now lets hold hands and sing some kumbaya

Not your fault teej

This is something that needs to be added for people to see and comment on, problem is the opinions are various and some don’t coincide with the one “main” opinion and that has apparently caused an issue. I feel like perhaps this is turning into censorship. “Only see and say what one person wants you to say.” I’m sure you have a clue about what I’m talking about. But I don’t wanna keep up with all this. This is hindering the advancement of this site and that’s not what we as a community, should do. And that starts AT THE TOP.

He can't skip all of TC anyway

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Is-Reggie-Wayne-contemplating-a-holdout.html
Polian predicted that Wayne will report for training camp.
“I don’t think he will stay away from training camp because there is a rule this year in the uncapped year that if you do not come in by Aug. 10, you get an extra year tacked onto your contract,” Polian said. “So, that is the last thing he wants. He’s got two years to run on his contract. So, I presume he will be in.”

In defense of BBS

In defense of BBS

BBS is usually very outspoken and wears his opinions on his heartsleeves.I for one definetly like the way he writes and have no problem .
I distinctly remember Week 16 ( ya that infamous one …..) when the debates were raging on this site. The majority of the regulars were stiflingly united in their chorus that criticizing the team was literally like descerating the holy grail or something…..Some of the other commenters were trying to share a viewpoint that the faces of the players reflected a deep pain and Polian should not have done that.

BBS was sharing the view of the non regular commenters and was just airing out his opinions. People even commented that by repeatedly posting those topics BBS was somehow undermining the mental strength of the team or something !!!! Ya right like the random opinions on a blog meant so dearly to the players.

By brining down his administrator hammer BBS is probably ensuring the other side of the viewpoints are also probably heard….

The same thing took place in the Reggie wayne thread as well.. a few of the commenters felt Reggie was not justified in demanding this hike…Which was met with a pretty strongly worded putdown by DZ. And then the debate started getting skewed with the opinions of the usual commenters saying it is fine for Reggie to say that.

Why should only the opinions of a few be heard always…..Why should not one criticize the team management as in Week 16….Why is it looked down upon so much in this site for anybody to raise even a single opinion against Reggie or anybody else when their actions are not justified.

If a few start questioning it is met with Dead horse floggin Gif’s or a Robotic chorus of ….Think positive…No Criticism…Justify anything.

BBS does these extreme actions to balance out the maddening din of the chorus on this site which does not allow even for justified criticism of any player.

Wayne's underpaid

Not by a lot, but underpaid nonetheless. $40m over 6 years is below market for a #1 on his team, top ten in the league receiver. And this is Wayne’s last chance to rectify that and get paid what he’s worth on the open market. Because of the CBA problems at the end of this season, if he doesn’t get paid now not only will he not get a raise, he may have to take a cut when the NFL eventually starts again.

Withdrawing his labour is the only way he has of trying to get paid what he should be being paid. I’m entirely OK with him holding out of training camp, holding out of the off-season, even missing games. That’s his right. And it’s the Colts’ right to move on without him and integrate Gonzalez and Garcon into starting roles in the offense.

There’s no point getting emotional about business.

by eltharion_doa on Jul 19, 2010 12:07 AM EDT reply actions

I personally get emotional because Wayne should be an integral part of the Colts SB team this year....

after we talk about both the team rights and the players’ rights, will the team spirit be damned? Can all teammates still carry on and really strive for one common goal? If things do not go his way and he happens to stay on the roster, will that be a distraction? What will happen if, in the very unlikely event, he is cut or traded?? these are what get me emotional. As some of us point out, IF Peyton does the same thing, we will lose respect for him also…. i LOVE Peyton but i assure you if he ever has this kind of antics, he will lose my respect (not that he cares about it). Don’t give me his rookie holdout crap, that was a totally different animal, that was a logistics necessity waiting on Ryan Leaf’s contract.

I think they can

They’re all business savvy guys – look at it in your situation. No, the money’s not the same, but if you know a good friend of yours is getting screwed by management over pay, you don’t begrudge him the opportunity to get paid what he deserves.

And the receivers will look at it as an opportunity to get more snaps with Manning, learn, get better, so they can get paid.

You have to be a colossal douche like Albert Haynesworth to really annoy your teammates, I think. As long as Wayne’s making it just a business call and saying all the right things about wanted to get back out there and play football – and he is – I don’t think there’s going to be a dressing room problem.

And I think, one way or another, Reggie Wayne will be catching passes from Manning in the opening game of the season. He’s a baller.
