Kaye Cowher - Wife of Steelers ex-head coach, dead at 54

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP)—Kaye Cowher, the wife of ex-Steelers coach Bill Cowher and a former basketball player at North Carolina State and in the now-defunct Women’s Professional Basketball League, has died of skin cancer. She was 54.

Cowher died Friday in her native North Carolina, where the family relocated at her urging during Cowher’s final year as coach in 2006, one season after the Steelers won the Super Bowl. The family had lived since in Raleigh.

Star-divide

I know this is a Colts blog and that as a fan, I cannot stand the Steelers. However, Bill Cowher has long been held as a universally well respected coach and a good guy. He always wanted the best for his players and his family.

I know that we have several Steeler fan's that post here and at this time, I would just like to send out my condolences to the Cowher and Steeler families on their loss.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Stampede Blue's writers or editors.

Holy shit

All of 54? I wonder how this will affect Bill’s future: more time at home without mom there for the kids, or back to the NFL while he heals emotionally…..

Regardless, in honor, I will now go out on the lawn and argue with an imaginary ref, spraying spittle at half-spew.

I hate Joe Namath. That's how long I've been a Colts fan.

I heard this on Mike&Mike this morning

Don’t really care for Cowher, mainly cause of my hatred for the Steelers, but this is very sad. My condolences to the Cowher family.

I can relate

I saw this literally after it posted on Saturday…. I’ve always hated the Steelers, not as much as the Patriots, but close enough…..

Nonetheless, it is always sad and unfortunate when someone is taken from us in this way..

Thoughts and Prayers to the Cowher family.

Again, not a big Steelers fan here, but I always like Coach Cowher for being like DUngy, not a workaholic, and someone who took time to care for his family.

I believe he has three daughters, and I believe they are all in college by now, but this must be really hard for all of them. Hope they can deal with this loss.

Classy move guys, fandom aside when it comes to life and death...

I’m sure Bill and family would appreciate it, as do Steelers fans.
