Around SBN: Notre Dame's Turnaround: How Have The Irish Done It?

Countdown to Colts Training Camp 2010: What do you want to hear about?

I'm very excited.  For the first time, I get to attend Training Camp this year in Anderson, and I can't wait.  I've watched some Notre Dame Camp practices before, but this is going to be a brand new experience.  I'll have my notebook ready, taking notes, definitely some pictures, and maybe a little video (if I'm allowed).  As the only Stampede Blue Writer attending, I get the privilege of keeping you as up to date as I can, and trying to score some interviews.  My question to all of you is, what do you want to see/read/know?  I have a list of things I have in mind to start:

  • Who is catching passes from Peyton Manning?  How does Anthony Gonzalez look on the repaired knee?  Is there a rookie holding his own with the league's best receiving core?
  • (Assuming he signs soon) Just how fast is Jerry Hughes? Can he get to #18 with any regularity (without him actually hitting Manning, obviously)?  Can he stop the run "on the way to the QB"?
  • What does the OL look like?  Is Jacques McClendon getting snaps with the first unit?  Can Tony Ugoh play up to his talent level?
  • Who are the kick and punt returners, and how do they look?  This was my biggest point of contention at the end of last season, as the Colts have been terrible with Field Position.  The Colts drafted Ray Fisher, and signed Brandon James to help just this.  They better be good.
  • Is Bob Sanders actually practicing?  And if not, is it because he's still injured?

I won't have an actual press credential (I tried), but I'm going to do my best to throw the website out there and ask for interviews.  I'm really going to try for QB Coach Frank Reich, as I want to know what it was like to play behind QB Bills.

I'm going to be there Wednesday (both practices), Thursday, and Friday morning.  I'll have a Cubs hat on, and please feel free to come up and introduce yourself to me.  I'll have an article up after each practice (Friday's may be a little later in the evening, as I have to fly back home) detailing what I saw.  I do have a twitter account, but unless they have a wireless network on site, I won't be able to use it in real time.  I apologize for being stuck in 2007.

Formations

I want you to keep a keen eye out for variations of the I-Formation and more specifically if they use Eldridge as a FB in any of those formations. I have a feeling that, thats one of the reasons they drafted him.

You got it

The Colts run so few formations, I might be able to count the number of times they run each one.

And I’ll be on the lookout for Eldridge.

I have some concerns.

Obviously, about Bob. But what about Freeney? I know he said that February injury is no big deal, but we still have to see him out there.
Also, Reggie and Rob’s attitude at camp, after they didn’t get (yet) their new contracts.
Besides that, the role of the rookies and their attitude. They are all very excited, so lets hope they sure impress everybody.
Enjoy!

QB Bills

is WAY better than QB Browns. QB Eagles gives him a run for his money, though…..

QB Bills had much more talent around him

He had Lofton, Beebe, and Andre Reed to throw to, and Thurman Thomas in the backfield. QB Eagles did everything himself, as Fred Barnett and Calvin Williams? (going off memory on that one).

For the most part, though, I played with the Giants. LT might be the greatest video game football player ever.

Gonzo, BS, DF, Hayden

I kind of expect seeing a PUP list with some (or all) of those guys on it. If so, they can’t practice with the team but can work out nearby.

Whatever the case, PUP or not, I’d be very interested in how they look. Besides the O-Line, let us know how Chick and King are doing. And, of course, who looks to be #4-6 CBs.

Thanks, and have fun! Wish I could join you.

Mgrex

You plan on being there monday? Me and my G/F are, both practices. I will be tweeting from my phone the whole time and taking plenty of voice notes. And as many pictures as I can take.

I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation

Not until Wednesday

Today and tomorrow are house hunting days, and Tuesday is my Anniversary, so no TC until Wednesday.

Backup corners

Top three were solid last year, but do the undrafted rookies and/or Fisher look like they can handle the dime and fill in when Lacey or the starters get hurt?

Who is getting the reps on the Offensive Line.........

And any changes in philosophy you can pick up. Also if you’re taking orders, keep us informed on Moala.

O-line, Gonzo's reps and any UDFA making a big splash.

Those would be my interest if I had a chance to go to camp

Defense is more important than breathing.
