Colts confirm Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis reported for 2010 training camp
Mike Chappell at the Indy Star gives us the good news:
The Indianapolis Colts returned to Anderson University today for the first time since 1998 for the start of training camp, and every player expected to be on hand reported. That included wide receiver Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis. The team confirmed each player was on campus prior to the 2 p.m. check-in deadline.
The only player who has yet to report is Jerry Hughes. He is still, as yet, unsigned despite Jahvid Best (selected just before Hughes) and Patrick Robinson (picked just after Hughes) having signed with their respective teams. PhilB seems to think that Hughes will be signed by Monday's first practice tomorrow. Let's hope he's right.
Also, no word as to whether or not Reggie showed up with a "message" for the team like he's done in year's past. Last year, he arrived at camp in a dump truck and wearing a hard hat. The message was clear. This year, perhaps because Colts players were denied to the media on reporting day for the first time in the Manning era, we've been denied a "Reggie moment" to start camp.

I believe I said they would be on time about a week ago. Guess I was correct :)

Well I have had it with Stampede Blue for the time being... Officially Boycotting along with many other regulars.
All is well in Colts land.
Let’s hope it stays that way through Camp.

I'm the most...
…ridiculously paranoid, anxiety-prone Colts fan ever, but even I didn’t worry about Reggie and Robert showing up after their blogs/tweets this past week were basically like “see you at Anderson!” I mean, I didn’t think they were choosing to vacation there, so I figured it was a good bet to assume they were planning to show up for camp ;)
Still, it’s great to have that conformation. And now that this is settled, I can waste time and energy fretting about Jerry Hughes’ deal and Bob Sander’s health instead.
GREAT news
I could honestly care less about media coverage, but of course I can understand frustration from the media (duh) and the BBS’s of the blogging world. Maybe the front office is just taking the approach of “no screwing around, no distractions whatsoever, all business all the time,” or something like that. I’m fine with that as long as they give us something to be proud of on Sundays. Which they will.
I had hoped Reggie and Robert would come to their senses. I love both of those guys, but I think it was in very poor taste that they decided to play hardball after both of them did not exactly help in the way they needed to in the Super Bowl. But they are both great guys and that is what I didn’t get. I never thought either to be greedy, and it turns out I was right.
Now let’s get Jerry Hughes signed. Then let’s point him in the direction of Robert Mathis, and he can be introduced to a proven gamechanging pro bowler who had actually earned a reason to hold out, even if it was in poor taste, but decided the team needed him to be there and the money issues were not important, at least not more so than the team. Maybe Hughes can think about that when he is carrying his pads and taking him out to dinner.

Stupid question regarding Deshea Townsend
I assume he is at camp already, but did not know if some minor details of his contract needed to be worked out first. Can anyone slap me across the face and give me an answer I should probably know? Thanks. I love that signing by the way. Great move by Polian.

Can we just slap you across the face and forgo the answer?

yes, he's a training camp

No, really. he's an entire training camp all by himself.
that’s the kind of value-add a veteran adds.

Never a worry
I was never worried about these 2 guys. It’s never wrong to ask for a raise. I still think things could have been a little different if Reggie’s Super Bowl performance would have been better. I he catches 10 passes, 100 plus yards, 2 TDs. It’s hard for me to believe the Colts would not have given him what he wanted. And I am NOT referring to the “Tracy Porter interception incident”, so don’t even bring that up.
Jerry Hughes will sign
…as soon as he and the Colts agree on what he’s worth. As stressful as it may be for fans to wait, the fans don’t have to live with the deal for the next four years or so like Hughes does.
So let’s all take a deep breath and keep some perspective. Hughes won’t be a serious holdout. The Colts respect their players and they draft guys who will respect the team. It’s going to be all right.
