Yep, I'm lazy. I really haven't created any kind of new banner for the open threads this year. Truth is, I've actually been working on something else. Something BIG that I cannot announce just yet, but it will likely be announced next week. Keep you eyes peeled to this and other Indiana sports blogs throughout SB Nation.

So, here we are. THE RETURN OF COLTS FOOTBALL! AAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
Whew. Felt good to get that off my chest. Been waiting to say that since early February.
Today's game the the preseason opener for both clubs. Enjoy the return of football, sort of. Keep a close eye on the return game as well as the play of key rookies like Jerry Hughes, Pat Angerer, Brandon King, and Javarris James.

Him and the other skill starters. I think the O still has some timing and synchronization work to do in live-game situations. They weren’t too crisp on that first series. They weren’t bad, but I think a tune-up would do them good.

On the spot analysis: The good, the bad, and the ugly
The good: The D seems to be up to speed. Eldridge can catch. Passing to people out of the backfield seems to be working all right.
The bad: Offense isn’t quite in sync. But it’s only the first game of the preseason, so that’s not really surprising, nor unexpected.
The ugly: O-line blocking. But Indy’s missing too many people; this, too, is understandable.

Collie looked a touch slow there
His jukes felt telegraphed. But, to make up for it, he only went forward. Too many receivers don’t do that; they twitch and fake, but then they lose yards. Collie may not have looked all that quick on that play, but he made something positive out of it, and that’s what counts.

Whoa! Good play.
Nice run by Joe there. And the O-line did some adequate sweep blocking there. But what I like about that play is that after he turned the corner, he got all those yards himself, no blocking help.
I’d rather have better blocking – one guy got through and nearly got Joe – but it wasn’t a bad play at all. Never is when it results in a TD for the good guys.

I’m not even saying Painter is good. Because he’s not. But that pass wasn’t terrible. It was slightly behind the receiver but it was catchable. The receiver let it hit his shoulder pads and it got picked. Shit happens.
