Once Again, Let's Re-Visit That 2010 Colts Roster Prediction From BBS
Back in April, I posted my first guess at the roster. Two months later in June, I did it again. I re-visited that June roster prediction back on August 11th and now, after two preseason games and the team heading into the 'dress rehearsal' game, I present my latest proposed depth chart for the 2010 Indianapolis Colts.
Hope you enjoy. Please, be merciful. For offense...
QB: Peyton Manning, Curtis Painter, Tom Brandstater
RB: Joseph Addai, Donald Brown, Mike Hart, Devin Moore
WR: Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, Anthony Gonzalez, Brandon James
TE: Dallas Clark, Brody Eldridge, Jacob Tamme, Justin Snow
OT: Charlie Johnson, Ryan Diem, Tony Ugoh, Jeff Linkenbach
OG: Kyle DeVan, Jamey Richard, Mike Pollak, Jacques McClendon
OC: Jeff Saturday
Notes: Back on August 11th, I had the Colts keeping six wide receivers. With Taj Smith being too inconsistent, and Sam Giguere really doing nothing so far in preseason, I don't see the Colts keeping six. For most of last year, they kept only four, adding Sam Giguere right before the start of the playoffs. Brandon James, a running back in college, is now listed at wideout by the team. He will be the fifth WR based solely on his special teams skills. Jeff Linkenbach replaces Adam Terry at tackle because Linkenbach offers more versatility. Devin Moore makes the team because he has been electric during camp and preseason.
For defense...
DE: Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis, John Chick, Jerry Hughes
DT: Daniel Muir, Antonio Johnson, Fili Moala, Eric Foster, Mitch King, Marlon Favorite
OLB: Clint Session, Philip Wheeler, Kavell Conner, Ramon Humber
ILB: Gary Brackett, Cody Glenn, Pat Angerer
CB: Jerraud Powers, Kelvin Hayden, Jacob Lacey, Deshea Townsend, Terrail Lambert
FS: Antoine Bethea, Unsigned Veteran
SS: Bob Sanders, Melvin Bullitt
P: Pat McAfee
Notes: Lots of changes on defense. To start, last go around I had the Colts cutting Jamie Silva. Obviously, with him landing on IR, that won't happen. I also don't think the team is sold on Mike Newton. He's looked pretty bad in both preseason games. So, I think the team will sign an as-yet-unknown veteran at safety, not unlike Aaron Francisco last year. Terrail Lambert and Marlon Favorite are added to the defense as well. Favorite was singled out by Bill Polian after the 49ers game, which is a strong sign. Lambert was everywhere against the Bills last week. Both have played well in preseason, and both will likely make the roster. Because of Lambert excelling, Ray Fisher is gone.

do you think they will keep 3 quarterbacks?
personally i think they just keep painter as terrible as he has been and if the unmentionable happens they would just go out and sign a veteran right away
but other than that i agree with everything else . good job
agreed
I say cut one of the non-Peyton QBs (flip a coin, it doesn’t really matter) and keep Ray Fisher
I haven't seen...
anything from Fisher that has earned him a spot on this team. Moore and James have been solidly better at the specific thing Fisher was drafted to do.
Oh, i'd say keep Brandy...
this guy is a big sweet eye-candy…. and he can throw… why not??
I will even tune in to watch those meaningless games even if he throws as many INTs as Painter….
com’on man, this is entertainment, nothing wrong with my shallow women’s perspective….

so who's the #1 colt dreamboat?
and you can’t say peyton.
I know a few women who swoon for freeney, and a couple others like mcafee.

Why can't I say Peyton????
![]()
he is beyond #1!
And, I will need to wait till the final 53 roster is confirmed before I can wisely come to a decision on this…. heeheee…..
Freeney, McAfee are all dreamy…. not to mention Clark, Colin Cloherty, Collie, Kevin Thomas, Vinatieri, Donald Brown, …..
I really really really hope that Brandy makes the roster or at least the PS…… so……

oh, you didn't say clark
c’mon, i luv 44 & 18 too, in the manly admiration sense, but those guys look like parts of their face and bodies grew at random rates throughout their lives. i firmly believe there’s a carnival in Iowa and a fortuneteller’s in New Orleans, each with a magic funhouse mirror that will make those respective guys look normal.
I will agree with you on Brown. When we drafted him I remember thinking to myself I wouldn’t mind looking like him. Dude could be a charismatic young senator in the KennedyObama mold.
I was thinking you might say Collie — ok. Cloherty — meh. I had to go looking for a pic KT — kind of a poor-man’s Rick Fox, wouldn’t you say? Adam’s cool, but, like Pat Mcaafee, he’s in that special foot-fetishist category.

back to cloherty
I just read the “Getting to Know” segment on Colin C. over at indystar.com. Colin’s now cool with me. They say the largest sexual organ is the brain, and he’s well endowed.

I keep looking...
at the OL and hoping there will be another name that goes on that list for Linkenbach. He just really looked lost last game. I have no clue who that person would be. I just keep hoping. Depth is critical in the NFL and that’s the only spot that worries me.
I think, the best two out of the DeVan-Richard-Pollak trio would be enough
They are serviceable at best, so I hope, Jaime Thomas or Tysovnitsky beat one out.
Here’s hoping Jaimie Thomas secures an OG spot. I think his blocking was instrumental on the Addai TD run in Buffalo. McClendon played well that game at guard as well.. The bubble in my opinion is between Pollak, Richard, and Devan.

DeVan's gonna be a starter again
No one’s unseated him. He certainly isn’t getting cut.

Looks good to me
I think this is going to be pretty darn close to the final 53.
I would be a little surprised if we keep a 3rd QB and if Linkenbach makes the roster over Terry.
I believe you nailed the defense. I would be curious to see who the Colts bring in to back up Bethea at FS. I am sure there is a veteran out there that would fit perfectly into our defense.
I doubt they keep Terry
Why keep a 6 year vet who shows some wear if he’s only marginally better than an URFA like Linkenbach. They may as well groom the young guy.

Good.
Agree on the defense. Favorite is the only one I think is still on the bubble. I might also put Newton on the opening day roster because I don’t that they will have a veteran signed by then.
I doubt they carry 3 QBs. Brandstater probably just misses the cut and I am tempted to add Blair White. I’m also 50-50 on the Linkenbach vs. Terry thing. They might keep Terry and send Linkenbach to the PS.
You nailed the offensive side, IMO . . . .but as for the defense . . .
Maybe it’s just me, but Favorite hasn’t caught my eye. I recall Bill Polian singing the praises of John Gill last preseason, and unfortunately he never panned out even before his fall from grace. As far as an “unsigned as yet veteran safety”, I like what I have seen from Marcus Macauley on special teams, and wonder if he might make a decent safety?
Really can't complain except for a couple minor changes...
I have no changes on the offense side of things. On defense, I would take out Marlon Favorite (DT) and add Ervin Baldwin (DE). Additionally, I think Mike Newton (FS) still has a legit shot on making the team so I would add him to the roster. Other than that, this is one of the few roster predictions that I almost totally agree.

I agree
Baldwin has seemed very productive. Marlon sticks out, literally. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a barrel-chested guy wearing the horseshoes.

Hmmmm. I disagree with a number of things.
I see all your points on D, but I’d bet against that 7th LB being kept (Glenn). Plus, I’d bet that Newton has shown enough play-making ability and athleticism that he sticks on the active roster. Also, I have Mathews making the team over Favorite…though, I admit that Favorite is more NFL-ready right now and therefore you could be right on that one. I also flip-flop between Baldwin and Chick, but agree that one of the two should make the roster. Nice calls on Lambert and Dawson.
The offense I have more disagreements with. I think we keep five WRs in addition to Brandon James, who I consider to be more of a STer. That 5th WR would be Blair White, who I don’t see us risking on the PS. On the OL, I think that Pollack has had his last chance, and Jaime Thomas will get that final OG spot. But the big complaint I have is that there’s no way I see us keeping three QBs. Painter makes the Active Roster and Brandstater is on the PS. I also think that Gijon sticks, at least initially, as a 4th TE (and #2 blocking TE). Agree with your calls on Devin Moore and Jeff Linkenbach, particularly your comment about versatility tipping the balance for Jeff. (He played both OT and both OG spots vs. the Bills!)
I'm not 100% sold on Linkenbach
I know he was being tried out at a number of different spots against Buffalo, but I’m not sure that necessarily means he’s versatile. I admit I’m not a great judge of O-Line talent because I have a tendency to watch the skill players instead, but our QBs never seemed to have a lot of time out there before they had to fire the ball away.
How can you not love a team that does this?
Erik Foster will be listed as an end and Hughes as a linebacker.
Linkenbach will be listed as a guard while Terry will be the OT.
Jaimie Thomas will make the roster at guard which means either Devan or Pollak are out. The backup center of the future is going to be McClendon. I think Skinner is a possibility to replace Silva.
can I clarify that penultimate sentence?
i think you would agree the backup center of the Present is McClendon, whom Colts hope will be the starting center of the Future. Let’s hope the future back up is in college somewhere.

Roster Changes
Nice stab BBS. I must say that my initial shot had plenty of udfa’s and now it appears a good many won’t make it due to injuries or just flat out not getting it done. In any event, I agree with several readers that Brandy goes to the PS. He is intriguing but we just don’t need 3 qbs especially one that overthrows the deep ball. I also think baby J takes Harts place on the roster. On defense, according to BP, Chick needs to be more productive (per the Buffalo game) and I agree. Therefore he’s out and Baldwin is in. I know folks won’t feel this one but……Mitch King is OUT! He has no stats to speak of and seems like a bit of a bone head. I would rather see Mathews develop in that position bc atleast can bat balls at the LOS. Re: the o-line, I thought Martinez looked good and could possibly make the roster. My big question surrounds Pollack. I think the guy is best suited at center. However, whenever he plays, it just seems like the guy is missing something. I would be ok with cutting our losses and moving on. No finishing blocks, no nasty streak, no passion..no roster spot. At lb, someone may not make it and the spot may go to a cb like McCauley. Who knows, he may fit at FS too. If not, then I think Newton gets the nod. If not then maybe Mike Brown could fill in or a young special teamer like Eric Bassey from OU.
"Mitch King is OUT! He has no stats to speak of and seems like a bit of a bone head."
Well someone pissed in your puddle. And no stats to speak of? He has twice as many tackles in preseason as does Mathews. Not sure where the “bone head” thing came from.
