Officials

I know the thing that everyone will talk about with regard to the officials is their placement and how tough it is to deal with. Gruden actually made a good point near the end of the game. To paraphrase, the NFL appears to be penalizing teams that would like to run a no huddle offense and that's not cool. While the Colts are the only team that runs no huddle outside of the last minutes of the half/game on a regular basis, this is bad for the NFL in general. The funny thing is, this is not what bugged me the most about the officials in tonight's game.

My problem is that all night long, there was one holding penalty called along the line of scrimmage. When was the last time we saw an NFL game with that few penalties along the line? The third pre-season game is supposed to be the benchmark game, but tonight's game wasn't close to what the regular season football will be so I can draw less from it. I watched the game once and could not keep count of the number of holding calls that were not called on BOTH sides. If the rule is not going to called in the regular season then they need to tell us now so I can stop yelling at my TV. It should be called in the preseason at least close to what it will be in the regular game. On the surface, the Packers line comes out of this game looking great, but how many plays did they get away with holding? My WIFE (who could care less about holding) actually yelled at the TV that Freeney was getting held. THAT'S BAD!
