2010 Colts Preseason: Colts Waive Five Players, Claim Danny Gorrer Off Waivers
The first big cutdown from 80 men to 75 was yesterday for the Indianapolis Colts. Those who were given pink slips were Garrett Lindholm, Dudley Guice, Trevor Anderson, and Andrew Tyshovnytsky. Marcus McCauley, who was signed just last week, was placed on the waived-injured list (which essentially means he's waived).
None of the cuts were surprising. Some felt Lindholm would battle Adam Vinatieri for the field goal kicking duties, but that was always a load of bull. Lindholm was kept around in order to give Vinatieri a breather in camp, and to rest Pat McAfee from kicking off in preseason. He had no chance to unseat Vinatieri unless Adam re-aggravated an injury. It's unfortunate Dudley Guice didn't show enough to impress the team to keep him. You might recall that Coltzilla did a nice interview with him this off-season.
We hope Dudley lands on his feet with another team.
The Colts also claimed cornerback Danny Gorrer off waivers. This is an interesting move in that Gorrer was not signed as a free agent. He was claimed by the Colts after the Rams let him go, indicating the Colts must really like him. Gorrer is known as a good special teams player. He spent some time of the Saints practice squad last year, along with current Colts defensive tackle Marlon Favorite.

Wouldn't read too much into the Gorrer signing...
Hayden and Powers will hardly play – if they play at all – in the preseason closer. Lacey might play a bit longer than them but not much. The Colts waived-injured McCauley. That makes essentially four corners that won’t play that did play last game. This was probably just a move to get them through this final preseason game and maybe showcase the guy for their PS or someone else’s PS as a special teams player.

Lacey
suffered a concussion against Green Bay. I doubt he will play at all against the Bungals.
Our heads may be bloody, but they are unbowed. We will be back next year better than ever!
Indianapolis Colts News and Updates
A few things...
Marcus McCauley was signed weeks ago, maybe you’re thinking of Glenn Sharpe, who was just signed last week.
McCauley was waived/injured b/c he’s a player with 4 years or less accrued seasons in the league. The Colts may want him on IR so they can take another look next offseason. A player CANNOT just be waived with less than 4 years of service if there is an injury at the time they’re waived, thus the “waived/injured” indication. Because of the classification of years of service, we cannot assume the team doesn’t like/want an waived/injured player, they are just obligated to waive instead of outright release players.
If said player passed through waivers unclaimed, the player reverts to the team’s IR. The team can reach an injury settlement with the player if the player or team does not wish to honor the clubs’ rights to that player at any time, thus making them a free agent.
Example 1: Roy Hall in the 2009 offseason. He was waived/injured last offseason, not claimed, went to the Colts’ IR and the beginning of this offseason roster.
Example 2: DeDe Dorsey in the 2007(?) offseason, he was waived/injured, reverted to IR. Wanted to play that season, reached an injury settlement with the Colts and went on to play for the Bengals that season.
We should still expect 1 more roster move soon. In waiving 5 players and picking up 1, we’re at 76 active players currently.
Lastly, Danny Gorrer was waived by the Rams months ago, and reclaimed by New Orleans, spending time with both teams this offseason and the Saints waived him again, which is where we picked him up.
thank you!

very minor observation... we now have 77 per Colts.com.... if my excel spreadsheet works correctly...
that means at least 2 more will go by August 30, 2010.

John Gill
…is still listed on the Active portion of the roster on Colts.com. Don’t know why. He was placed on the Non-injury Illness reserve list a few weeks back.
Should be the 1 causing the discrepancy.
arhhh.... i see... thanks! :)
tomorrow we will see who else will get the boots…..

Colts try really hard to find a gem in these corners
who have height, speed, but had no production in college.
Lambert, Gorrer, Sharpe.
Nice to know
I guess that I am part of Coltzilla now.
I also wish I had time and motivation to blog at Speed Blue Nation
Thanks for the shot out though
I haven’t talked to Dudley since, but I’m sure he’s disappointed.
