Brackett Has Bruised Right Hand, Returns to Practice

When Mike Chappell reported that Brackett's hand x-rays came back negative, most people breathed a huge sigh of relief.  I personally exhaled about half-way, waiting for the other shoe to drop... or I guess in this case... for the other glove.

This morning on CBS Rapid Reports, Tom James reported these two nuggets:

Team president Bill Polian said Saturday that LB Gary Brackett has a bruised right hand. Brackett was hurt in the first quarter of Thursday night's game at Green Bay. No word on how long Brackett will be sidelined.

and

Returning for Saturday's late afternoon practice were LB Gary Brackett (hand), TE Dallas Clark (leg), RB Joseph Addai (concussion) and WR Austin Collie (unspecified injury).

On further investigation, Mike Chappell reported this morning that

Brackett went through the Colts' light workout Saturday with just a light wrap on his right hand.

Given that Brackett's hand was wrapped, and the workout was only a light one, we might still need to temper expectations.  However, this is still very welcome news.

Good news, everyone!

Glad to hear he’s ok. It was good to see Angerer out there for an extended time, though. Kid looks good.

Good news

I don’t think they would have Brackett out there period if this hand was gonna be an issue. Even better news is that Dallas and Collie are back. Now if we can only get Powers, Saturday and CJ back.

Great news

I wonder if any of the above see any time Thursday night.

Like Metallicolts said, it sure would be nice to know the status of Jeff, CJ, and Powers.

I hope so too.

If Angerer and Hughes can give Brackett and Freeney/Mathis (respectively) rest for a series at a time we’ll be fresher in the 4th quarter while the opponent is fading. That would go a long way in reducing 4th quarter let downs and increasing 4th quarter comebacks. It’s great having Manning and feeling good about the O in the two minute drill, but I’d like to feel that way about D too.

agreed with coltsUK on angerer but brackett is our captain and we need him out there.

good to see all the injured back! we really need powers back for game one when we play houston

brackett is very underrated tough! we have some tough guys. i am so impressed with addai’s toughness as well. im beginning to become a very big addai fan. i get frustrated that our run game usually is non existent throughout the year but he doesnt get enough credit on his presence out there. especially his blocking. he is the best blocking rb in the nfl. and im saying that not as a colts fan but as a football fan and a fact. and im willing to bet manning would back me on that claim

Does anyone know the deal with Antonio Johnson’s groin injury?

by Lell87 on Aug 29, 2010 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

Any word on where out O lineman are at with their injurys?

I would love to see CJ and the rest of the O Line back by week 1. The Texans looked tough Saturday night and I would perfer to have everyone healthy and ready to go by then.

another off topic ... topic

but I’m watching the broncos/steelers game and the umpire is spotting the ball and then moving back into the “traditional” position — behind the LBs. didn’t the NFL just make a statement that the position change was a certainty?

by m@chu on Aug 29, 2010 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

If it's inside of two minutes in the half or the game, the umpire moves back to that position.

So the question is, how much time was left in either the half or the game when you posted? That determines things.
