If Charlie Johnson is healthy, I believe there is still a possibility he's used at guard. #Colts #NFL
Paul Kuharsky just made me vomit in my mouth a bit. With Tony Ugoh gone for 2010, how in god's name can the Colts move CJ to guard?

Apparently Peyton doesn't even need a LT

This, of course, follows from the logic of: if your O-line was “bad” in the superbowl, then it would be better not to have an O-line at all.
This is called “thinking outside of the box”.

The Redskins actually tried that once...
turns out it’s not much different than the normal Redskins offense:

in high school
we ran a set similar to that but we had 3 down linemen everyone else ran to the left lined up and we ran mostly screens out of it. it worked well enough nothing earth shattering but it mixed it up.
He is
if you add Eldridge and Addai into one big three headed body.

Good call, AussieColtsFan. Hmm… “AussieColtsFan”… that’s bound to cause some confusion… do you mind if I call you “Bruce”?
Nothing's complicated if you understand it.
CJ
is a guard. It’s his natural position. If the coaches think we have some legit tackle talent on the roster, and can move CJ back inside, I’m cool with that… until Peyton gets rocked one too many times.
"We ARE going to our own private island, Chris: it's called the State Fucking Fair!"
How many snaps did CJ take at G
in a game or in practice?
If the reasoning is because he’s too injured to play OT, then is an injured CJ any better than any of our healthy G’s?
he was drafted as a guard, right?
and moved to LT when Ugoh started sucking

No. He played OT at Okie State.
He actually started out as a TE there
But wasn't he drafted to play guard?

You know how the Colts work
they draft guys as ‘linemen’. He played G at first but played more at T since.
True...
This may actually be a pretty good move…time will tell if this is only a rumor or fact…

Yea CJ is a guard...
If this comes about…CJ really moves up my list of favorite Colts…He just does his job!!! Very integral part of the O-Line!

Who are all these legit tackles?
Undrafted rookie, aging guy on the downside, practice squad pickup?
they're not legit...
yet – in the eyes of fans. Would Link’s hypothetical good performance against Mario Williams prove his legitimacy? Same thing for Reitz.

This just wouldn't happent to be 'an opinion', right?
There’s no such thing as responsible reporting in a blog (no offense BBS). He doesn’t site a source, or even that he talked to anyone with the Colts.
So his opinion carries no more weight than anyone elses. Besides, mediocre guards? We have plenty of those. We’re short on mediocre tackles.
Dude
Knock it off. ‘Responsible reporting?’ WTF is that have to do with this? Kuharsky is ESPN’s beat writer who covers the Colts. When he states something about the Colts, even his opinion, it most certainly has more weight than any regular joe schmoe. Kuharsky is close to the team and has many contacts within the organization.
Calm down already. I yell at ESPN all the time for their crappy ethics, but when it comes to someone like Kuharsky stating his observations, and then coming to a possible conclusion based on those observations, attacking that is useless and unnecessary. Again, this is from me, someone who LOATHES ESPN.
Oh, and for those of you out there who hate my guts, if SB Nation should ever get bought by ESPN (doubtful, but you never know), I likely won’t be sticking around. I like Paul and he does good work, but working for ESPN would make me feel dirty.
SB Nation's Indianapolis Colts blogger at Stampede Blue and editor of SB Nation Indiana.
Wow, are we kind of touchy
about responsible reporting in blogs? I didn’t site SB, and even apologized to you beforehand. I meant that you can only take what’s in a blog at face value – one person’s opinion. And in this particular case, I’d like to have a little clue as to Kahursky’s logic if he’s so close to the team.
Geez, I hope ESPN never buys SB. It would be hard to read the posts with all the ******’s inserted into everyone’s comments.
My take on it
Playing guard requires you to get greater push on running plays, have a better grasp of recognizing and communicating with the center where the blitzes are coming from (A or B gap), possibly be used for double teaming a behemoth NT (a lot of 3-4 Ds have them) along with the center sometimes. So, playing guard normally requires greater knowledge of the playbook and protection schemes than playing tackle, along the above lines.
Hence, CJ would be a better logical choice to play guard which would add veteran presence to the interior next to Saturday.
Playing tackle is normally picking up an outside blitzer or DE. If you are athletic enough, and have lesser experience with the playbook, you can play tackle faster than you can play guard, especially in our system with the best blitz picking RB behind you, IMO.
So Kuharsky may not be too far off suggesting that.
I like the idea
Charlie Johnson really isn’t your typical tackle. Better than Ugoh? Yes definately but with his experience at playing guard it just makes much more since to move him there and have Linkenbach playing tackle. If Linkenbach is overwhelmed by Williams then we can just move Eldridge over to help out. No doubt those two can block Williams and if not Addai ( the best block rb in the league) will handle him
Experience at guard more important than at LT?
From watching Hard Knocks, the rookie the Jets tried at guard had a hard time keeping DTs off Sanchez. Maybe you put the weaker OL at LT, and help with a TE on that side, rather than opening a shorter route to the QB up the middle.
i dont know about that
his opinion doesnt really hold much weight to me at all. didnt this guy say that ugoh was playing great like two weeks ago?
cj will stay at lt. he might play guard until he is fully healed.
Paul Kuharsky is the same guy who just last week said Colts loooove Tony Ugoh
published right here at Stampede Blue. If the Colts were high on Ugoh, they would’ve put him directly on IR and not filed him as waived-injured. What makes anyone think Kuharsky knows anything, especially about the OL? The Colts are probably putting up all kinds of smoke signals, not wanting to tip the Texans off on how they plan to adjust the line.

"To be a great football coach, you have to be smart enough to do it well, and dumb enough to think it's important." -- Can't remember whom I am paraphrasing.
I don't think that who plays LT matters that much.
Johnson could never block Williams anyway. He couldn’t block him in 2008, he couldn’t block him in both matchups in 2009. Manning will make it work and we’ll put up lot of points as usual.

I didn't see the humor
I’m thinking FineClub may be on to something
How can you not love a team that does this?
Okay, look:
When we called Painter a “tackle magnet”, we weren’t saying he was the type to attract the attention of interior linemen and keep them from penetrating!
And when someone said “That’s the end!” when he ran onto the field, they weren’t giving him blocking instructions!
Jeez, people… attention. Pay attention.

CJ's mobility is an issue after the injury.
Playing guard uses less lateral motion. Lickenbach will do fine at LT. At least as good as CJ and Ugoh.
Kevin Mawae
Why haven’t I heard anyone talking about him?
Sign him to a vet minimum and play guard.
Now he is going to retire.
Just because someone is retiring
Doesnt mean theyll agree to vet min and sign to a team in the same division as the one they played in for 16 years
Hank Baskett IS A WANKER
Call me dumb
But I actually think we are fine on the O-line baring any set backs with C. Johnson. With the newer additions recently added we add the strength, size and mobility that we haven’t had in the past. Now we just needed to get these new guys a little experience and we are set. Really intrigued by McClendon even though his pre-season wasn’t that great that guy has a huge upside with his strength.
Well, that's the question...
if CJ and Jeff are healthy, then we have 80% of last year’s line. And the drop off from Lilja (which I still can’t figure out why he was cut) remains to be seen. I also agree, that with some experience our depth may even turn out to be better than last year.
I like Richard
Every time that guy is counted on during a big stage, Jamey Richard has not disappointed, IMO. He has a mean streak to him that he brings to the field and I think he will be a keeper.
Pumped
I’m really just pumped at the possibility this o-line has with depth. I know we haven’t really got see these guys play but adding Fulton, Reitz, in addition the youth we have in Linkenbach and McClendon. This could turn out to be a great job by Polian in building an o-line after so many people have given him so much grief about it.
I'm with you
Defintely more optimistic now that we picked up a couple guys and the Ugoh cocktease (as a buddy of mine called it) is over

Xavier Fulton
I don’t see the guy’s name on the Depth Chart – or on the Colts roster on Colts.com.
Is this guy still on the team – did he make the cut?
Also – on releasing of Ugoh – no way they let that happen if they don’t have faith in this LINK kid.
But faith and – showing up on Sunday are two completely different things.
Let’s hope this kid is the real deal – and impresses early and often….
Practice Squad

Look at the bottom of this page. PS players aren’t included on the depth chart – only Active 53.
Fulton
He was supposedly signed to the practice squad.
There he is - down on the practice squad
I didn’t see that list at the bottom of the page.
Thx – TNcolts…
