Also, that incompletion to James was just good defending.

The defender was all over him and slapped his hands down textbook style. Great play by the D. The stumble was a combination of the defender and a slight change of direction.

He made a nice throw to James down the left sideline… it’s was placed really well, but James tripped. He’s also made three or four nice throws to White.

The three-stooges position

You know the one, get slapped in the face with a football, pratfall a recovery, then loose the game.

by Selador on Sep 3, 2010 8:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I thought they carried another guy as well

must be my mistake. Still I just dont know how they can cut him. White will give Manning a tall receiver for one. Also, by keeping him, you can have some insurance for Collie since he seems like a good slot. I know Gonzo will be used in the slot from time to time, but to me, he plays better as a flanker receiver

by metal_militia on Sep 2, 2010 8:29 PM EDT up reply actions

last year the colts started w/ four WR on roster

when gonzo went down, they added baskett.
it stayed just four until week 17, when giguere was promoted for the last game, which garcon did not play with a hand injury. Sam was on the postseason roster too, but he was inactive each game.

Agreed about White

At one TC practice I attended, he stayed out on the field with a coach for a good 15 mins after practice had ended working on his route running. He’s always had good hands, but he’s improved his routes. You could see that on the sideline come-back reception.

Doesn't that give you an indication of what the management thinks of returners?

It’s not like they couldn’t have carried one. But they chose not to. Why is that suddenly going to change now?

i understand your guys point

We need depth not just a returner but its so freakin frustrating because a dynamic returner would add so much to the game and give p money better chance to score! the same damn thing thta happened with roby is gonna happen now

He doesn't play till someone gets hurt. Then you need him.

And Fisher’s numbers in the return game tonight are better than James’. Fisher: 3 for 75 and 25 avg. James: 2 for 35 and 17.5 average. Tough to compare punts we’ve had 3 for a total of 6 yards between James and Moore.

You say he’s a huge return threat, but he hasn’t really shown it, yet. None of them have.

yes he hasnt but

you cant admit you havent noticed his sheer natural abitlity to cut and amazing speed! He adds a weapon that fisher cant in my opinion

Colts don't carry specialist returners

You have to be able to do something else, and James can’t really.

White and James are making this team. I don’t give a damn what anyone says.

That catch by White, to set up the first-and-goal,

was really pretty. The man is a player.

Brandstater is good in the redzone..

one just have to imagine him with a good OL.. maybe just maybe we could have gone 15-1 or 16-0 with him last year..

by thebossuzzi on Sep 2, 2010 9:59 PM EDT reply actions

More likely

He would have been sacked more often than Painter, because he’s less aware in the pocket, and thrown more interceptions with those dodgy floaters against corners who aren’t chumps.

by eltharion_doa on Sep 2, 2010 10:00 PM EDT up reply actions

you are either Polian or related to Purdue or Painter....

I am going to make a chart of Painter and Brandstater… even if Brandy didnt make the team because of the aging Polian Syndrome….. would really like you painter aplogist so shut the h** up!
I admit we are screwed the moment saying, “in Painter we trust”….. so, nothing more to say. If Colts fans are soooo blinding attached to a backup who knows nothing but throw INTs and INCompletes…. and cannot produce……..something is seriously wrong here. We are not the welfare system…. the weak should not be helped if they cannot win or produce. The Colts is NOT a charity… it should win as many games as it can without resorting to spygate or illegal tactics. BUT stuck on underwhelming QB when there is clearly a “better” one in our hand? You all Painter people lose me here……

BUT !! most important, guess you have the support of Polian…. so you win… and the Colts lose.

Not so sure about the Buffalo game,

but i agree. He just might have done enough to win Week 16.

So..

Brandon James will make the team..I know many people think he doesn’t have a spot on the Colts, however, for someone who was one bad play from being cut today, he stepped up to the pressure and did a heck of a job..if anything, this is a sign of mental toughness. Will he be an all-star? Probably not. However, this guy deserves a chance…people were all over this guy before the muffed punt last week…this was redemption and he deserves a shot!

Except he made his impact as a WR not as a KR/PR.

We don’t need another WR especially with Blair White really showing some ability. Fisher had the best return game today. Not many punt returns today (3), so that complicates things. Luckily, I don’t have to make the call.

See...

here is the issue..no one is saying there is a right or wrong answer here coltsfan723. There is not getting it…it is a matter of opinion. Some of us say, “Sure give this guy a chance, he proved something and has big play ability”, others say, “nah, eff this guy, he blew as a KR/PR”…at the end, I don’t think Poppa Bill gives a flying S*it what anyone on here thinks and he will do what he wants, and his decision will most likely be the right one to the distaste of one set of groups.

Polian might be an ass, but he is always right…

so far

I have seen “ZOMG JAMES IS TEH AWSOME!!!!! CAUSE HE IZ SOOOO FAST!!” It doesn’t matter how fast he is or how good he makes cuts. Fact is, there are better players fighting for the same spot that offers actual depth to the team. If you are gonna be a returner your ass better be good somewhere where you can be used. All James would be good for is returner…thats it. Waste of a roster spot.

I agree....

If people want to watch someone run fast, tune into Usain Bolt. My view is he showed flashes as a football player. Take a look at Hester…there was minimal intention of him being drafted for being anything but one of the best KR/PR in the history of the NFL, but the Bears have found other uses for him because he is a pure athlete. Somewhat of a similar concept with Joshua Cribbs….I think people are excited because he does have big play ability, and even though he hasn’t proven it yet as a KR/PR, he might be worth a gamble…and yes, that will be at someone else’s expense. I think KR/PR is a soft spot for Colts fans because we’ve had the human touchback and no real stud KR/PR in years…I think everyone gets very excited about Peyton and the O starting at the 40 as opposed to the 20 every frickin time! But I def. see both sides of this situation, but I just so happen to be someone who is okay with taking a gamble on him.

I always look at Garcon who didn’t really prove anything in his rookie year, but his size and speed along with more game time experience are what made him a good receiver, not necessarily his route running or his hands. He was a gamble (Division 3 receiver) that hadn’t proven anything, but he just had intangibles and a chance that allowed him to excel after some time.

Blair, Fisher, and James really helped themselves today.

Ricardo Matthews, John Chick, and Hughes stepped up and provided some solid play. Matthews earned a spot in my opinion with all his pressure. Marlon Favorite will probably get put on the practice squad. Conner is gunna make the roster, as is Humber.

hello Coltsfoot! I am here, fuming over some idiotic comments ....

I admit i am a bit too fiery and unpolished sometimes but ….. enough is enough…..
If the Colts cut Brandy, itis the Colts loss…i am gonna follow him if he plays in the NFL… and like you said, that team will be my #2 team. As soon as Peyton is no longer a Colt, i would say bye bye Polian.
Sorry for the rant….. idiocy is not easy to handle in massive dose in one single sitting.

based on Caldwell's interview after the games......

and when asked about brandstater……
1) he brought up “painter throwing the ball well”…. numebrs may not reflect that…/not be reflective of that.
2) but important that “Brandstater came in to finish the job there”…
3) the big thing here is put it in the endzone…. and Brandstater did a nice job there
3) looked down and in pain when talking about how Brandstater played…. I am 100% sure there is personal emotions at play here re: Painter.
I cannot imagine the Colts being such a emotinally inept organization and sure hope it is not……I am very sad and upset with the whole thing….. I may need to get away from this blog a bit not wanting to see how “great” Painter is and how “mediocre or even bad” Brandstater is….. While Peyton always rules….. this is just absurd!

I really agree with BBS on Painter and Brandstater…I know he likes Polian, as you do, BUT this? Painter he may be a nice guy but sure not QB material.
