Madden 2011 Predictions
I had an idea today...I love Madden. I play it daily. I think that (for the most part), the guys at Madden do a great job with player ratings and the like, and the computer generated play calling is normally pretty close to the real life head coach's own.
So today I decided to set up my in game depth chart to match what I think the 'real life' Colts and Jags will use this week and set up a spectator game with the computer playing both sides and let it play out. Results of the game after the jump
Okay so I may have made a mistake by making the quarter length 15 minutes. The score seemed a little higher than it should be...Or at least the Jags scored more than I would hope they do this Sunday.
Final Score - Colts 49, Jags 28
Passing:
Peyton Manning - 101.5, 23/38, 327 yards, 4 TD 2 INT
David Garrard - 10.9, 9/28, 145 yards, 0 TD 4 INT
Rushing
Joseph Addai - 29 attempts for 128 yards (3.7 YPC) 2 TD Longest run 12 yards
Maurice Jones-Drew - 12 attempts for 109 (10.7 YPC) 2 TD Longest run 78 yards
Donald Brown - 4 attempts for 15 (3.7 YPC) 0 TD Longest run 7 yards
Receiving
Reggie Wayne - 8 receptions for 95 yards, 2 TD
Austin Collie - 6 receptions for 82 yards, 1 TD
Dallas Clark - 4 receptions for 96 yards, 0 TD
Pierre Garcon - 4 receptions for 47 yards, 0 TD
Mike Sims-Walker - 3 receptions for 55 yards, 0 TD
Kassim Osgood 2 receptions for 51 yards, 0 TD
Marcedes Lewis - 1 reception for 5 yards, 0 TD
Zach Potter - 1 reception for 30 yards, 0 TD
Blair White - 1 reception for 7 yards, 1 TD*
Blocking
Jacksonville's C, RG and RT gave up a combined 4 sacks.
Indy did not surrender a sack.
Defensive
Rasheen Mathis and Kirk Morrison both got interceptions
Kelven Hayden, Jerraud Powers, Phillip Wheeler and Gary Bracket each had 1 INT
Robert Mathis and Antonio Johnson recorded 2 sacks each
Russell Allen of Jacksonville returned a fumble 24 yards for a touchdown
*Madden doesn't allow you to create players, so I signed a guy named Todd Watkins. He's a third year player out of BYU that is 6'2" and is rated a 54 overall. I felt like that was fair.
This should be fun to see if this pans out come Sunday. I would be satisfied with a game like this in real life, as long as Peyton doesn't throw those two picks.
If this holds true (which I understand that it WILL NOT), I would be overall impressed with our Run D. If you take out the 78 yard MJD run, he's averaging less than 5 YPC. That's good for one of the leagues premier running backs.
If the Pass D has a day ANYWHERE NEAR this I will probably pee my pants a little. That would be spectacular.
Well...If this is a successful FanPost, I will continue this. I'd also like to find another reader from the Jags and play them online, then post the results. I'm pretty sure I'll stomp anyone, especially if they're using the Jags. Anyone think that is a good idea?
Take care everyone, Rec this if you like it & GO COLTS!

What system?
I play Madden like all day long. I run on PS3. But you should definitely do this every week, I’d get a kick out of every time and so would a lot of others I’d think.
What do you think of this year's Madden?
I hate it personally. I took pride on my Defense and now it’s just unfairly balanced towards to offense. And as for your simulation, I know that this stat line will never be true: Joseph Addai – 29 attempts for 128 yards (3.7 YPC) 2 TD Longest run 12 yards. No way he’s going for over a hundred yards. If Caldwell didn’t allow him to get on against the Giants I don’t ever see him getting it this year lol.
I like the new engine
The players don’t seem to move around as fast, but it looks more realistic and the collisions are a lot more fluid.
The game seems MUCH harder when playing All-Madden this year. I have been playing for a couple months and I still only win games by small margins on my Franchise.
I don’t like the way player progression is, and the scouting is kind of a pain in the ass. They changed a lot though, and I expect them to upgrade that kind of stuff next year. I liked being able to go through training camp in the previous Maddens to make certain players better, but that feature isn’t there this year.

they've completely killed any game type but one regular season
I cannot play their Franchise or Superstar mode because of how poor and shallow it is. I keep hoping that maybe next year they will address this issue but they never do. It’s sad because I really liked those game types.
Keep in mind it's Madden
Running the ball has always been cheesetastically easy so if you know how to work the controls right you can have monster games whenever you want. I’ve had a 450 yard game split between Addai and Brown on 11, though three of those rushes were 80+ tds on first down out of the Wildcat, which the real Colts would never use. Defense is definitely a little tougher this year but I think they designed it to where unless you make adjustments on D like a real NFL defense would, you’re going to get lit up. What works for me is a lot of man coverage with spies and zones to the flat occasionally mixed in (like if they start spamming screen passes) and then switching to zone when they get closer to the red zone. Though on D I mainly just rape with Freeney and force the other guy into bad throws.
I also wreck with Mathis
I didn’t play this game, but if I did, normally I can get 3-4 sacks with him. All you have to do is move him just beyond the RT’s outside shoulder and hot route for a blitz and he’ll get the edge almost every time. I’m sure it’s the same with Freeney, as they are both very fast with good acceleration, but I’ve always liked rushing from the LE so I do what I’m used to.

About Freeney
I run most of my “I know they’re passing” defenses out of a nickel sub package which switches Muir to end and Freeney to tackle, another thing the real Colts probably do much if at all. But getting sacks really isn’t my goal, just icing on the cake of I get them. I’m really just trying to chase QBs so they have to throw on the run or to WRs who aren’t open and so forth. You can’t sit in Cover 3 all game and expect to stop people like in old Maddens, you’ve really got to play the chess match on D this time around. Sometimes I flip my defense so Mathis moves to tackle and Mookie moves to end and it’s pretty much the same as doing it with Freeney on the other side.

I bought Madden for the first time since they added online co-op. Some of my friends wanted to play together, create our own players and play them across multiple season…except that you can’t do it. EA is lazy and behind the times.
Also, the franchise mode is really weak, as I enjoy managing than actually playing. Playing a football game alone gets pretty boring after awhile. I don’t enjoy playing against random people cause I know I’m not very good.
Ah well. I have Halo Reach so it’s all good.
I agree
They took out a lot of my favorite features from the Franchise mode. I hope they bring them back next year.

What did they leave out?
I’m still on Madden 2010. I only play franchise mode anymore. I can’t believe they would take it out?
Is it even worth buying for franchise lovers?
addais rushing yards is comical
and manning wont be throwing two picks! i doubt garrard will throw 4 int as well…I also would of set the time to maybe 10 mins or something a quarter because the score is WAY to high!
Side Note: This game is being played on bday so the colts better kick some ass!
