Addai's Future as a Colt
With this being a contract year for Joe
do you guys think the Colts will resign him at season's end? I know that there are some who blame Joseph for the poor run game but he takes to much crap from people (like Marcellus Wiley on NFL Live yesterday). Anybody who watches Colts games and knows anything about football can clearly see it is on O-line problem and not a problem with Addai. I used to like Addai ok but over the last couple of seasons I have really began to appreciate his many talents and respect him for dealing with all the unfair and unwarrented hate. To me he is the best ALL AROUND back in the NFL. When he has blocks he can run great, he is a great pass catcher out of the backfield, and of course he saves Peyton from pass rushers and blitzers on several occasions a game. I feel like he is a pivotal part of our offense. As weak as our O-line is at times, it is made to look good by Peyton's quick decisions and throws but also because of Addai's excellent blocking in the backfield. I just really think we need him and I don't think Brown is ready yet. He would have to show me A LOT this season to prove to me that he is even close to being capable of doing all the stuff Joe does for us. So I'm definately praying for a new contract for Joe. What are yall's thoughts?

I think Addai will be offered something like a 4 year 12-15 million contract,
but he will explore free agency. If he is offered something slightly higher by another team, he will ask the Colts if they raise their offer.
Addai is not at fault for the poor run game NOW. We know that, but in his second and 3rd seasons he played a lot worse and was part of the problem. I still remember the play from the 2008 playoffs, when he needed half a yard to get the first down at the Chargers 40, the only thing he had to do was stiff-arm Cromartie. He run out of bounds without contact, and the Colts punted.
Not saying he is perfect
as your example there shows, but overall he is great on this team. I don’t know why you are knocking his second year as he rushed for over 1,000 yards and averaged 4.1 yards per carry that year. His 3rd season, he was fighting injuries and was having to run injured behind an injured offensive line so that was just kind of a rough year for everybody I think. Hopefully though, this perception that he isn’t that great will work to the Colts advantage if and when Joe does test the free agent waters although I’m sure not everyone in the NFL believes the crap ESPN spews out.

Ok
Then only from the 2nd half of the 2007 NE game to the last game of 2008, he was in a slump.
But again, he is great for the team now.
he was hurt

I'm hopeful about Addai being back
his best skill, pass pro, is one the Colts value more in a RB than anyone. His receiving skills too are better than his running, and he has a consistent, but rarely big-play running style both fit him better with a pass heavy team.
The Colts are the prime market for Addai.

Peyton needs a security blanket
Clark has been called “security blanket” in the past but I think it’s Joe Addai. He blocks, he runs, he catches, he is tough as nails. he gets Peyton out of a lot nasty situations. I hope they extend him so he can retire a colt.

No running back will ever retire a Colt. Just not our MO. I think it is about 50-50 that the Colts extend Addai after this year. Brown is clearly not ready, but the Colts have also not shied away from letting big name RBs walk and bringing in a rookie to replace them. I would like to see Addai extended for another 3-4 years just so we don’t have to burn a 1st round pick on a RB. We need those picks to go toward OL.
I doubt he'll be back
With Brown having another year learning the role, it’ll be a lot cheaper to make him the feature back than bring back Addai.
It doesn’t really have anything to do with his ability or performance, it’s simply a matter of economics.
I hope they offer him SOMETHING
and don’t just let him walk David Thornton style. Addai is a badass in all facets of the game. I doubt Brown learns to be near as good as him by the end of this year. That being said the Colts don’t like paying running backs giant contracts (for good reason – decent ones are a dime a dozen) and Joe should be able to cash in big somewhere else. When that happens I’ll wish him the best but it’ll be sad to see him go. But you never know; maybe he takes a little less money than he’s worth to stick around.

when u have two first round picks at the same position backing each other up and neither one ha any real outstanding performances as far as total rushing yards, it has more to do with the o-line than their own personal skills. not only that but addai blocks well and catches well. hes here to stay
I certainly hope you are right. I don’t know if I can watch a full season of Peyton taking the good Lord’s name in vain because Donald didn’t pick up the right guy lol.

Brown catches and blocks well too
And he’ll be paid about 1/3rd of what Addai will command on a new deal.
Like I said, it has nothing to do with talent – the dropoff from Addai to Brown isn’t great, so the cheaper choice will always win with a smart team like the Colts. If Addai had shown Edge levels of performance, he’d get a new deal, but he hasn’t, so he probably won’t.
I hope I’m wrong though, I’d love to see Jo back.

What?
the dropoff from Addai to Brown isn’t great…
Say what? That’s quite a statement, dude. One i disagree with completely. Brown has potential and may become as good as Joe, but he’s a looooooong way from his level at this point.

hold on a sec now...
remember what addai did his rookie year? i remember a lot of people being impressed with him in the SB victory over da Bears too. addai sacrifices himself week in and week out. look at his stats and how much have u heard him complain about it? he is a solid team player who buys into the system and isnt about himself at all. im not sayin brown is a bad guy or has shown me any reason to say he is a bad guy but the drop off from addai to brown is tremendous.
I sincerely hope we follow our trend
of rewarding our impact players, even if that bucks the trend of letting RB’s walk.
This may evoke some harumphing, but in my careful estimation, Addai is the third most important member of the offense (behind that guy with the big forehead, and that other guy who’s named after the day of the week that the Bay City Rollers love so much). In fact, I think he’s more valuable to us than Chris Johnson is to the Titans. I’d probably put him on par with the likes of MJD and Ray Rice in that regard. It’s pretty difficult to find a guy who does what he does.
Joe Addai is the epitome of a Colt. He’s the only guy whose number I wear on my back. If he wants a bigger payday than we can give him, I hope he cashes in, because I always like seeing a guy we drafted get paid. I’ll be thrilled if it doesn’t come to that, though.

Also:
what other RB in the league can stand up a blitzing Ray Lewis five times in a game and still manage to juke him out of his shoes on the way to the endzone?
