Bill Simmons' QB Countdown

I'm pretty sure that when I read his column yesterday Bill had a dig in there about Marvin Harrison shooting at someone and then killing the witness.  Today I pull up the column and the entire part about Marvin is gone.  Did anyone else read this yesterday and catch that?

I can't remember the exact wording of it but it was classless to say the least.  Maybe ESPN came in and forced him to take it out.

The column is here.

Really tasteless on Simmons' part, but I'm not really a fan of ESPN cutting/pressuring writers like that.

Choke/Clutch is the fetishization of the small sample size.

Exactly

don’t they proofread it before posting it the first time anyway? I’m guessing they got some letters, or some higher up complained, but if you are going to hire the guy and pay him, at least let him write freely.

Simmons has been muzzled for about 5 years

If he doesn’t like it, he can always leave. By staying, he’s implicitly accepting the censorship.

Yeah, but I don't remember ESPN going back and editing post-post.

He’s always complained about ESPN not putting columns up or editing stuff out pre-post, but I don’t think something like this has happened before.

I vaguely recall it happening

But I might be wrong.

Maybe he decided it wasn’t what he wanted to write? It’s impossible to say.

Yeah

Weird, I remember that too. Didn’t occur to me it was about Harrison.

Why does anyone get up in arms about Simmons? The guy’s a good writer, and I love reading his article. But he knows very little about sports in general, and almost nothing about football. Really, stop worrying that he hates on the Colts. That’s part of his schtick. The guy doesn’t even have the veneer of impartiality.

If he didn't coin the phrase "Manning Face" all the time, than so wouldn't hate him as much.

You do all realize he is a patriots fan right?

I think he’s an enjoyable enough read. If you want a guy to hate, Rick Reilly is pretty annoying.
