Just got an email from the NFL informing me that Colts defensive end Robert Mathis is the AFC's Defensive Player of the Month for September 2010.
Mathis is tied for the NFL AFC lead with 4.0 sacks and has recorded at least one sack in the team's first three games. This includes two sacks against Peyton Manning's brother, Eli Manning, in the Colts' Week Two blowout win over the Giants. Mathis also leads the Colts defensive line with 11 tackles, 10 solo, four sacks and five pressures.
In the Colts recent win against the Broncos last Sunday, Mathis was a key player in a critical fourth-and-goal stop on Broncos running back Laurence Maroney.
Robert won this award in November of last year as well. Congrats to him! Go Colts!
