Jason LaCanfora: Colts Trade For Redskins Corner Justin Tryon UPDATED

Jason LaCanfora just Tweeted that the Colts have traded for cornerback Justin Tryon. This is an odd Tweet because The Washington Posts' Redskins blogger has an article up dated today saying Tryon was cut by the Redskins.

We will try and get confirmation of the trade.

[

[UPDATE]:From PFT:

The Washington Post had previously reported that Tryon was released, but that was incorrect. The Post item wasn't written by Mike Wise, so we'll assume it was an honest mistake and not a deliberate fabrication.

Looks like he was indeed traded to the Colts. Still trying to work out details of trade.

Hmmmmm......

I’d like to see who or what we traded for him. I’m guessing a very late round pick.

If true,

that’s probably what made Fisher expendable.

My hope

is that this is the latter rather than the former. The redskins just cut him and the Colts scooped him up

by metal_militia on Sep 4, 2010 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

That would be nice.

The Reid piece linked has an update stating we traded an undisclosed draft pick for him. So not likely.

From Hog Heaven

“So much for Tryon being the next Darrell Green. He was being hyped up as one of the best prospects in football. Guess that’s not happening, at least not here.”

I’d take the next, after the next, Darrell Green.

The guy seems to be a good nickel corner.

That’s basically what we needed. On its face, this looks like a good move for us.

On another subject

Anyone know anything about Jacob Bender? He was cut by the Giants. If he’s healthy he has to be better than our 4th OT, by default.

Intrigued by Rolle

Smart guy, not blazing fast, seems like a good fit for he Colts.

Nothing's complicated if you understand it.

Ha.

I know lots of people dislike him, but I’m a huge Florio fan. I like his style.

#Redskins have interest in CB Ray Fisher, who was waived by the #Colts.

and RT@Russellmania09 Justin Tryon via text: “I get to play!! And that’s what it’s all about. Yes I’m happy” I asked him for comment on trade to #Colts #Redskins

ESPN scouting report:

“He has played in 29 games over the past two seasons. He is a short corner but is aggressive, especially in the press position. He does a nice job of rerouting receivers at the line of scrimmage but must be solid with his jam as he does not have great catch up speed. He can roll up and is solid in run support. He is a good backup who has made plays when called upon.”

From that, I read that he’ll prove useful with the more aggressive defense we’ll be using this year.

This is what I liked from the above:

The former junior college transfer instantly became ASU’s top cover cornerback, starting all 26 games during his two seasons with the Sun Devils. He proved to be an effective run support defender who simply loved the challenge of taking on receivers much bigger than him. In 2007, his main pass coverage assignments featured four receivers who stood at least 6-feet-4 and five who were 220 pounds or more.

The 5-9 cornerback allowed the opposition to complete just 31.13 percent of the passes thrown into his area during his final campaign (33-of-106). Tryon was just as capable of covering the top receiver on deep routes, but also excelled in press coverage, rerouting his man away from 54 potential catches, in addition to breaking up or intercepting 19 other throws. He allowed a miniscule 3.74 yards per pass attempt vs. him as a senior.

Good deal

He is a decent enough DB to provide quality PT. Fisher was drafted due to his return ability while Thomas was drafted as a DB. Obviously Polian screwed the pooch with Thomas who is not going to be seen for at least a year, and now that Fisher was beat out by Moore, this is a good move. A good nickel corner to provide depth.

"A lot of times, Kenny, we have no idea what we're doing. But the DEFENSE doesn't know that we don't know what we're doing.....and that's next level." -Peyton Manning
