Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Matt Leinart

I heard he will be released from the Cardinals after losing the job for QB to Derek Anderson.

If this is the case, what about picking him up as a backup? A longshot, I know. Probably too expensive and wouldn't want to ride the bench. But he is miles better than Painter. He might cost too much or not want to come out here but I'm just throwing his name out there.

I expect it is a dumb idea, but I just wanted to throw it out there. He backed up Warner for a long time, and now has lost a job to Anderson. He is a previous National Champion and Heisman winner, so i doubt he'll come here and be a career backup.

Again, i realize how much of a longshot, I'm just curious as to what you guys would think of this, being a "What if?" scenario.

I bet

he’d come if nobody else offered him anything, though I’m sure he’ll get some offers. I don’t like him very much but you are right, he’s definately better than Painter!

"Miles better than Painter"

does not say much. I think Leinart is overrated. I’d rather have Brandstater than Leinart.

When he came out of college, I thought he was can't miss.

Dude tore it up in college. If by some chance he wound up with the Colts, I think studying under Peyton would do wonders for getting his head straight, and getting his priorities in order. I think he has the talent to be a productive starter, but that his head is on crooked. Who better to reset him than Peyton?

That's what they said about JaMarcus Russell and Manning too.

Problem is, Manning doesn’t seem to have the patience for people who expect to play, expect to start, expect to win but not work for it. These guys would last one day with Manning. By 6 pm he’d have sent them to bed without dinner crying all the way.

I'd be for it, but

#1. He wants a shot at being a starter. Not going to happen here.
#2. I read that Seattle and Houston are the most likely destinations.
#3. Polian is stuck on Painter and probably wouldn’t sign anybody short of a Manning clone.

Not good value

I agree with mtfearin – I’d rather have Brandstater. Leinart might end up in the South though – I can see Titans, Jags and Texans being interested.

No thanks

He doesn’t have the mentality to succeed in the NFL. He’s an entitled brat who won’t work hard, cracks under pressure and thinks everything should be handed to him on a plate.

I’d rather have a less talented guy who’ll bust his ass to get better and make plays than one who’s banked his money and doesn’t care. See: Albert Haynesworth.

Albert Haynesworth

worked hard enough to get a huge-ass contract, THEN completely quit on everyone.

Matt Leinart apparently was satisfied just to get drafted and pick up his rookie contract… He might not even care that he’ll never be a starting QB in the NFL.

He worked hard for two years, sure

The first four years after he was drafted, when he was guaranteed money? 9.5 sacks. Total.

Probably Seattle

I am thinking Cheaty Petey up in Seattle will try to get Leinart back on his roster. You have to consider once Hasselback gets hurt, they will need a backup to Whitehurst.

Also, I completely agree with the last post. Leinart defines what is wrong with today’s athlete. He is a complete douche who will not work in the NFL.

Lets pickup

Troy Smith! Yeah…GO BUCKEYES!

Smith

Honestly, I’d rather have Troy over Leinart. Dedication is an under-valued trait especially for QBs. Leinart’s dedication is to his celebrity status, not his job.
