2010 NFL Roster Cuts: Colts Cut Blair White, According To NFL.com UPDATE

NFL.com has Blair White listed at a roster cutdown casualty today. No other confirmation on this move at this time. It's possible White's listing here is an error.

When we get an update, we will post it.

WTF?? indeed

they are keeping frigging injured Taj Smith over White?? the only reason I thought the colts released Brandon James was to keep white in the 53,, but now IDK i cant think clearly right now i need a tequila shot asap

R U Serious?

He could have been picked up by someone else the last two year while he was on the PS. Trust me, between his injury and his preseason, he’s not on anyone’s hot list.

by smonroe on Sep 4, 2010 6:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Time of posting

The time of that posting has Adam Terry. Ray Fisher and Marlon Favorite were released at the same time.

No other website has reported it. Makes me really wonder, I will wait for colts.com or the star website to confirm it. Maybe BBS can e-mail his Star contacts to find out the scoop. I can understand the Blair White cut if Brandon James was retained. Not keeping both is a head scratcher to me.

by chad72 on Sep 4, 2010 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

terrible cut

White deserved to make it and he isn’t stupid enough to get a DWI like Taj and he catches everything, unlike Taj.

by OBGYNOSUPREME on Sep 4, 2010 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

If that's true...

The Colts are only keeping four WRs to begin the year, then, because no way the Colts keep Taj Smith on the roster and injured for nearly half a season. Interesting move. Other positions (cough OL cough) must be more banged up than we realize.

by Collin McCollough on Sep 4, 2010 6:08 PM EDT reply actions

we started with 4 WR and 4 TE last year; then gonzo got hurt, & we added Baskett.

Giguere ended up on the active roster later

Once Garcon got banged up, Giguere got on the active roster as well. We ended up with 5 WRs but then the 4th WR saw playing time during breather situations (Baskett) and dropped balls to stall drives.

by chad72 on Sep 4, 2010 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Giguere was promoted the very last week of the regular season. That's it!

He played the meaningless game in Buffalo, but was then inactive for the post-season. Clearly when they’ve got these kind of quality WRs they eschew quantity.

I hope no other team show interest .. but with the over 100 yards game the other day i bet some teams already speaking of grabbing him.. :(

by trOOly on Sep 4, 2010 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

exactly

I mean if you cut White, who do you have behind your top four? Why would anyone want an inconsistent injured Taj smith or non productive Sam Giguire. You already got rid of Brandon James. In the NFL, you need as much quality depth as possible and of all the receivers the Colts had in camp that werent the top 4, White stood out

by metal_militia on Sep 4, 2010 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

You can't argue with that statement

I’m just saying he may not be as special a people are making him out to be.

A few months ago some people were saying Guice was the second coming based on his workout tape. White had some great games against guys who probably aren’t in the league today.

He may be the next Stokely, but until he plays against the 1’s, I’ll reserve judgement.

by smonroe on Sep 4, 2010 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions

the next Stokley is here

Austin Collie? You might have heard of him…

by coltsfan723 on Sep 4, 2010 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions

Is that a question or a statement?

to paraphrase…

“I knew Brandon Stokley. Brandon Stokley was a friend of mine. Austin Collie is no Brandon Stokley.”

by smonroe on Sep 4, 2010 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Agree

Stokley had an explosion after the catch that I have not seen out of any slot WRs we have used except maybe Gonzo, and that includes Collie.

Production wise, Collie might end up being better because he can block for screens and running plays better than Stokely or Gonzo from what I see and hence will be on the field for more plays, and thus will have more targets over a period of time, IMO.

by chad72 on Sep 4, 2010 7:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually no one thought White was the second coming

but based on the film on White, his work ethic, and consistency in the preseason, he looks like a player who is a capable fill in in case of injury. He certainly isn’t an Aaron Moorehead or Craphonzo Thorpe.

LOL

I’ll give you that!

by smonroe on Sep 4, 2010 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

only bad thing is

his speed. And you can’t teach speed. His hands and route running are golden though

Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald

Larry Fitzgerald has a 4.5 or 4.55 timed 40 but he has great strength, game speed and hands. Jerry Rice’s timed 40, I could not find but I don’t think it was too fast either.

Good hands, route running and natural WR acumen can make up for lack of speed. Collie is not that much faster than Blair White, FYI.

If the Colts keep Blair White, with Wayne’s contract being re-done, if they ever get into a situation where they need someone for trade bait for a position of bigger need, guess where they will dip into, their WR corp somewhere, just a hunch.

by chad72 on Sep 4, 2010 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions

That is just down the road

I was just speculating down the road, not this year. I do not think the quality of DL or LB or TE (maybe next position that will be deep possibly if Eldridge materializes) or S or CB is as good as the quality & depth of the WR corp will be if Blair White is retained, IMO.

by chad72 on Sep 4, 2010 7:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I've read this over and over...

I don’t agree about the speed argument. The guy ran 30 some odd yards after the catch from the Bengals secondary before he was track down. Addai was tracked down too. Both guys were timed in the 4.4 range before their respective drafts. If the guy was “slow” he wouldn’t run that far. I think he looks slow because he takes long strides. Word class speed? Devin Hester? No. But good speed? I think so.

by thebossuzzi on Sep 4, 2010 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

We are not talking Greg Jennings or Donald Driver

Game speed should improve over time, IMO. Besides, Collie who is not much faster than White could have been caught just a few yards later. Besides, we are not talking Greg Jennings or Donald Driver in the slot.

by chad72 on Sep 4, 2010 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions

And... I think...

Only Garçon or Gonzalez would have had a real chance to taking it for a touchdown on this team. And relatively speaking, few NFL wide receivers do. There only so many WRs in the entire league that flat out run away 60 yards for a touchdown with one or two steps on guys in the secondary.

Michigan State Fan Here

Glad to see Blair White has definitely made a mark in Indianapolis whether he makes the roster or not. He’ll work his tail off everyday in practice and never be a problem in terms of character on or off the field.

Thanks, sparto.

There are several of us here really high on Blair. He’s not been named to the roster just yet, but the team just cut one of his major competitors and the other is injured. So there’s a good chance he’ll make the roster.
