2010 Colts Practice Squad Update
Phil Wilson Tweets an update on the 2010 Indianapolis Colts practice squad:
#Colts just announced five practice squad signings: QB Tom Brandstater, DE John Chick, KR Brandon James, S Mike Newton, WR Blair White.
The team is allowed eight players on the squad, meaning the Colts have three open spots.
It's nice to see James and Brandstater on the squad. Hopefully, the Colts will rope in Javarris James as well.

Nice
all guys I wanted to keep around.
Meanwhile, the Chargers signed Adam Terry. That’s sure to work out well. (For opposing pass rushers.)
Cookie Cookie Cookie starts with C!
Hahaha
Good one. I’m looking forward to the Colts wiping the floor with those posers.

Great news
Any word on Fisher? I saw there was interest from the Redskins but wasn’t sure if they ever made a move for him.
Also, could someone please clarify the rules regarding other teams signing our PS players?I’ve heard conflicting stories and can’t figure out whether other teams could sign White, Brandy, etc. from our practice squad to their active rosters. Thanks!

practice squad signings
I believe that any of the practice squad players can be signed by any other team at any time, but the rule is that they have to immediately go to that team’s active roster. They can’t just sign them and then put them on their practice squad.
also found this
Practice squad players are always free agents, meaning any NFL team can sign them away from another team. The catch with this? A team can’t sign a player one week before they play that team and the team that signs a practice squad player must count that player against their 53-man active roster for at least three weeks, bye weeks included. This is even if the player is released after one week – they still count as a spot on the roster.
Players that are promoted internally from the practice squad to the active roster must remain there for three weeks and get paid the minimum salary for their status (rookie or veteran). If they are let go for some reason before the three weeks are up, they are still paid for those three full weeks.

Great, thanks for the explanation!
I’m on the road all weekend so refreshing the news from SB on my iPhone is my best source of info for quasi-realtime Colts news!

Very glad about chick. I think hell be great in the future.
Him and hughes could be the new mathis an freeney
You heard it here first folks
Hank Baskett IS A WANKER
That would be gravy
If that happens our defense wouldn’t miss a beat when Freeney and Mathis retire.

It could happen
We all know the hype around Hughes, and Chick looked great from what I saw of him
Im not saying they are the new freeney and mathis, just that I hope thats what they become

This comment right here...
Is why Polian trolls fans. You can probably feel me shaking my head from across the pond right now.

I'm saying that while Hughes might become the next Mathis...
The chances of Chick even remotely resembling either Freeney or Mathis are about as good as my chances of starting at QB week one. It’s not going to happen. Any suggestion that it could or will is ridiculous. Chick’s game – which landed him on the PS and not the active roster – isn’t even marginally comparable to Freeney’s or Mathis’ anyway.

I probably did feel 'your head shaking from across the pond'
because judging from your comment its incredibly big
Alot of players who were at one time cut from squads completely have then led hall of fame careers, so just because hes on the practice squad doesnt mean hes never going to achieve anything. I think its far more likely then you even being able to fit your extremely big head into a helmet to start QB.
All your saying is that you dont like him as a player as much as I do, I dont understand why you have to be such a rude ass about it.
Hank Baskett IS A WANKER
Because this happens every offseason...
…and nobody learns from it.
OMG LET’S FALL IN LOVE WITH INCREDIBLY MEDIOCRE PLAYER AND BE PISSED WHEN HE DOESN’T MAKE OUR TEAM!
BLAIR WHITE WILL BE PICKED UP RIGHT AWAY BY SOMEONE ELSE! HORRIBLE CUT!
Saying that John Chick is going to be the next Dwight Freeney is beyond stupid. I would be remiss if I didn’t point that out, whether that makes you butthurt or not.

I didnt say he was going ot be the next dwight freeney
I said could be. I was dreaming. Dont take it so seriously its called optimism. You wanna talk about butthurt read back your post.
Hank Baskett IS A WANKER
So you admit what you wrote was dumb?
Fair enough. We’re even.

I admit it wasnt realistic
Saying I hope Chick becomes the next Freeney isnt dumb, its optimistic and unlikely but I never said it was likely. Dont take things so seriously

Nice moves
I’m hoping to see an O Lineman as one pick, then after that; maybe just make a play for the 2 best available players regardless of position.
If Russia attacked Turkey from the rear, Do you think Greece would help?
One question
WHEN the Colts win the Super Bowl this season do they get rings as well? I never figured that out. I assume they do, but I’m not sure.

What, no Curtis Painter mention?
I’m proud of you, BBS.

That Can't Be Right
There were 31 teams and the entire UFL waiting to sign Blair White as soon as the Colts released him!
At least that’s what I’ve been reading for the last month. How did this happen?
Just a few teams
Obviously the pre-draft interest (based on the agent quote I referenced in this URL) was not the same as the post-cut interest in Blair White, it was not something I expected. I do think the development of Tamme as a receiving TE, the need for extra personnel on the O-line and CB corp due to injuries were all reasons for why they did not need a 5th WR for injury insurance like I thought they would, that is my honest assessment of the situation.
Brandstater to practice squad
.. is a good move, but having watched the last preseason game rerun this afternoon, I am not sure I agree he is a big improvement over painter. One thing I really noticed about him, is hangs on to the ball too long. That may improve if he gets more used to the offense, but from what I saw of him, he didn’t strike me as the huge improvement over painter right now
Now maybe with a year on the practice squad he would give painter some serious competition for the backup job, but I don’t disagree with him not ending up on the active roster.
An expert is someone who knows more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing...
You have to remember
He had 2 months to learn the offense compared to Painter’s year and a half….on top of being piss poorly coached in Denver by the idiot boy child coach…
Brandstater is raw, but he just plays with better confidence than Painter….which I believe is why he looked better on the field overall..
Bring In Fisher
I would love to see Ray Fisher on the roster more than Justin Tryon or Brandon King, he truly has the versatility compared to Deion Sanders but not at the caliber of ole PrimeTime, but PS is OK
I wouldn’t mind seeing Jarvarris James and Vuna Tuihalamaka on the PS either. I can’t remember the last time I’ve see so many people with potential to become NFL Icons or even legends.
colts roster
justin tyron is a good coverage corner, far superior to brandon king or ray fisher.he will provide excellent coverage on the slot reciever. I read an article where darryl green, the hof corner thinks he sould be a started in the league.
He'll get a chance when Hayden goes down.
Powers will probably get hurt too.
